Have the Conservatives signed their own death warrant?

My grandchildren are being brought up in a situation where they regularly interact with people of different cultural backgrounds - school, doctors, people in the supermarket...both mum and dad work in multicultural situations -
As they grow up I hope they will stand firmly against extreme views wherever they come from, but seek in humanity what we have in common and stand up to hate-mongering, tarring all people in certain ethnic groups with the worst demonising brush.

I agree with you Allira. Nobody (as far as I am aware) has been silenced at the ballot box and Reform just did not receive a majority of votes, so what was stopping them?

But I don't see why anyone objects to the descriptive term of "far right" anymore than "centrist conservative" or "left centrist" politics" or "far left" politics, we need terms to be able to discuss matters.

To return to the Conservative Leadership elections, I feel that the candidates should be assessed not on immigration policies but the whole raft of social and economic issues, if the end game is to build an opposition that will deal with the nitty gritty of law making and governance and clearly defined intentions to improve our lives in work, health, education, retirement and so on.

To be honest, though, either Jenrick or Badenoch will end up as a leader. I don't think either will be a good party leader. I won't be voting for them anyway, so I don't really care.

I also totally disagree with your post. Reform does not appeal to the silent or "silenced" majority, they appeal to the worst in people not the best. What are these British values that you want to uphold? I strongly suspect they are very different to mine and those of my family and friends. fwiw I want an immigration service that is effective and fair, the difference is I do not see every problem that we have as a society being solved by demonising immigrants and asylum seekers and from Reform I see nothing else.

Being wary of so called hate preachers in UK mosques who are seen on SM platforms calling women who wear perfume, do not cover up are whores and the lowest of the low, does not make one Islamophobic.

Finding the riots this summer appalling does not make one anti white.

All the above are just traits of concerned citizens.

Whatever party reassures the electorate they take these seriously, along with a plan for growth, NHS (including social care), education along with a fairer tax system will probably win the next election.

Soundbites are yesterday, smash the gangs, stop the boats, grow the economy etc. are meaningless white noise.

And how do you describe 'British' - who is 'British' in your terminology?

And what are 'our' values? I would put money on my values being different from yours JudyBloom. And I'm about as English as you could get! I've been dabbling in family history for decades and (as far as I know) I don't even have any Welsh, Scottish or Irish ancestors from the last five hundred years, never mind anybody from foreign shores.
