She has Irish & English heritage too.
She is only part Aboriginal, which might explain why she feels she needs to be so such more extreme than those who have no settler heritage?

Another Absolutely. Indigenous people in Commonwealth countries are entitled to express their views. The king seems capable of reflection and seems to have a genuine interest in our countries history. I bet he took this in his stride.

I don't just think a monarch deserves respect, I believe all humans do. While we cannot change the past, we can work together to make a better future.

Respectful, mature communication doesn't include shouting and waving arms in an angry way.

Whatever you think of the Monarchy, I don't think shouting angrily and aggressively in public is the right way to behave to anyone, whoever they are. If they have cancer, it's even worse. It always pays to Be KIND

Even if King Charles was responsible for the genocide, there would still be better ways of tackling the situation. I agree that she demeaned herself.

Lidia Thorpe is an elected politician and thus has more opportunity and a wider platform than most on which to express her concerns in parliament, and possibly convince others to do something about them. It was, I believe, a majority of Australian people who voted recently against giving increased political rights to indigenous people; they are the ones she needs to convince.
But so much easier to demean herself and her protest by bawling and shouting in the face of King Charles.

I think the King probably has a fair amount of sympathy with her views but, as ftm420 says, he can't say too much.

I think she was very 'effective'. Charles will understand that this isn't personal and is aimed at the monarch, whoever that is at the time, and will think about what she said.

Absolutely. Times change. The Queen visited Australia when children were being forced away from families into "Re-education" but wouldn't have been able to speak up.

The dignified welcome had its place but so does this. I don't think it overshadowed it.

I can’t understand why anyone thinks these parasites are due RESPECT just because of the family they were born into….not to mention the hundreds of millions they cost EVERY year ,Time we got rid of them ,they are a medieval concept living ina modern world .

I was generalising about the hard life / about the reasons why everyone ages differently and I wasn't criticising her looks, just explaining why I said she wasn't "young". I think she looks ok apart from looking angry. Everyone looks nicer when they don't look angry.

It would have been good to do things differently. She would do well to learn how to communicate in a more effective manner and manage her anger better.

Well, she's 51 and looks ok for 51 but I don't think she's had a hard life, just a busy one like many women.

Still, I thought Charles handled it well.

I did think she looks older or has lived a hard life, yes. (Because we all age differently and sometimes people look old before their time). People who have drunk a lot, smoked or done other aging things as well as those who have been through a lot can and often do look older. It wasn't meant as a judgement, but an observation, a truth.

I don't know anything about her lifestyle, but I was disagreeing with the description of "Silly young woman" in the title. As in, I wouldn't describe her as "young".

She's entitled to her views, but she's rude to shout like that at the King. She could have spoken another way, more politely or written a letter.

I'm not a Charle's fan and I am not anti the indigenous people. People do know they suffered, but no one can go back and change the past. All anyone can do is work together for a better future, but yelling and screaming abuse won't achieve that.

I disagree with her shouting at the king because he was not personally responsible for the problems in Australia, because he does have cancer and is a visitor in their country.
