About Donald Trump.

They have both tried to cover up this morning by saying they are looking forward to meeting him and working with him.

What absolute creeps!

But thats the trouble they both thought he wouldn't get re-elected and said things about him like first year students showing off at Uni…Now they both have to eat humble pie..Not a good look for UK prime minister and an MP.

Am I right in thinking this was a comment from 7 years ago?

I think you could be stuck with him for up to five years from the beginning of May, as that is the maximum duration of Parliament. Since it could take that long for the measures taken by this Parliament to take effect, I am sure that Keir Starmer will want his government (and himself) to stay long enough to see the results. Indeed, someone predicted that it would take ten years to see the hoped-for improvements.

I’m not sure if we will be stuck with Starmer for much longer, he's become such a liability to the Labour party..He’s not a politician and never was, and as for diplomacy - he is the labour parties very own Tommy Robinson..And now he has to try and repair the damage done to US. Relations..lol…
I think that ship has sailed…..

Comparing Starmer with Tommy Robinson is IMO ludicrous.

Sorry, clicked on wrong quote for previous post. This is the one.

I thought Kemi was ridiculous and naive. Doesn't she want the UK to have a good relationship with Trump and the USA? Doesn't sound like it.

Well done Kemi you are a breath of fresh air imo. 👍

I’m not surprised by anything that comes out of KS lying mouth.

Well, he’s already had to correct KB on a lie she told at PMQT. Not a good start is it?

The comments from seven years ago show Lammy had T rumps measure. Diplomacy means he and Starmer will focus on the important issues we share with the US. Despite my negative view of Trump I expect he will reciprocate. He’s an astute people player and it’s I’m his interests to work cooperatively so far as poss with Europe and the UK

MaizieD I was just posting ^the timeline of events^

The timeline doesn’t matter, it was a criminal act, she was lucky HH didn’t press charges. Badenoch claims she never makes gaffes despite much evidence to the contrary.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 07-Nov-24 19:42:45

Badenoch needs to mature

She's ridiculous.

A bit up her own bottom methinks?
😙

Soniah Thu 07-Nov-24 20:07:38

Sadly our politicians will have to cosy up to him, she made a big mistake in dragging that up at this time, it could have a negative effect on what is already a difficult situation in an attempt to score cheap points

simiisme Thu 07-Nov-24 20:24:31

You're being ridiculous. They have to say, 'Congratulations; looking forward to working with you.' So do all other world leaders. It's called diplomacy. I don't envy them - I'd throw up at the thought of having to say anything polite to that excuse for a man, moron, convicted felon and rapist.
Badenoch is the most right wing leader of the Tories in my living memory. She's not Keir's boss, or Lammy's and they do not have to do anything she says.

nanna8 Thu 07-Nov-24 23:49:19

From my vast distance away and with no axe to grind I would think they chose her because of Farage- thinking she will pick up many of his supporters. Pretty obvious really but it may well backfire on them. Farage is a good speaker and good at manipulating people, like his big mate in the US.

Really interesting David Lammy episode of Newscast just out.
I think it's worth a listen.

"over my dead body" should Lammy apologise. Black people in my childhood were told a few a things, say sorry for being a Nxxxx. As we went into a college blacks as part of induction used to be given a symbolic bar of soap. Fortunately that doesn't happen now. I disagree with Lammy on Israel and Gaza he should call out the Nazi genocide. However with all his faults he is not a convicted criminal. Trump is. Politicians say many things...so what. They were factual comments. Just because deluded people voted for Trump doesn't mean anything. If 99% of people think a square has 3 sides it does not make it legitimate. The fact that KS has congratulated Trump, makes me trust politicians even less.

Pot kettle etc from Starmer. Told lies to get elected, since gone back on his word with a vengeance.

Ilovedogs22 Fri 08-Nov-24 17:25:15

Yes Freya5, I couldn't agree more. People have been completely blindsided by Starmer & his merry little gang of treacherous goblins. Wow what fools we were! 🤔

Whitewavemark2 Fri 08-Nov-24 18:01:54

A reminder to tell the truth

Mollygo Fri 08-Nov-24 18:06:47

All MPs are required to be honest and truthful.
Well that would remove so many of them including KS and KB from public office that we wouldn’t have a government or an opposition.

Mollygo Fri 08-Nov-24 18:22:03

Re demanding apologies
If you research this, demanding apologies seems to be part of the parliamentary procedure nowadays.
Sometimes the requested apology appears, sometimes the cause of the demand for an apology is dismissed under a variety of excuses.
How important the apology is should relate to the reason for it, but it seems to be more often related to the party or the MP you support.

Casdon Fri 08-Nov-24 18:37:36

It’s just attempts to point score, it’s a political dance where you try to wrong foot your opponent at every opportunity. Whether the point made is justified or not is irrelevant. They all play the game. The problem is, playing the game is increasingly distracting from serious questions about the implications of policy change - increasingly those questions now come from the smaller parties.

Good point re the smaller parties at that PMQ - one on Ukraine I think and one on neurodiverse and Health.

To actually start off as newbie leader by raising a 7 year old quote - when positive things have happened with KS, Lammy and Trump subsequently to try and point score - yes, that's really scraping the barrel. Country first?

Mollygo Fri 08-Nov-24 20:35:19

Thanks Wyllow3
That’s an example of just what I tried to explain earlier.
