The only time I remember the Queen even vaguely expressing disapproval was at the turn of the millennium when Tony Blair linked arms with H.M for Auld Lang Syne! Eeek! I don't think President Trump fased her at all. Remember Camilla winking??!! At least P.T. likes the RF, unlike P.B who made no secret of how much he disliked them, owing to his ? times great grandparents being Irish! I ask you, how ridiculous is that? I have Irish G.grandparents (County Cork) and I can't say that I particularly give them a seconds thought!

Whether or not a man with criminal convictions should have been allowed to stand for a second term as POTUS is probably a discussion for a thread on its own.

POTUS Trump has won the election, which was carried out under strict scrutiny by both sides. Reds and Blues slinging the proverbial mud and allegations around with gay abandon.

Whatever party loses in any election will inevitably go through a period of navel gazing.

Political parties around the world could do well to learn from the events of this week,

Reading through this thread I find there is a distinctly Trumpian flavour to some of the comments.

Remember him mocking a disabled person? Calling McCAin a loser for being a prisoner of war, when he himself had been a draft dodger...?

Mocking and condemning other people's perceived weaknesses is most unpleasant.

If journalists can’t cope with the job, perhaps they could reconsider their position. People leave stressful jobs all the time, because the job is bad for their well being.

Luckily we have many journalists who show tremendous courage, who bring us the news from immensely dangerous places and situations. At the moment, the most dangerous situation for a journalist is possibly those who report from the front line in Ukraine. These journalists risk their lives to bring us the news. Over the years journalists have reported from some extremely dangerous places, just to bring the news to us. They have also reported from places where heart rending events have happened. They have reported from concentration camps, from natural disasters where many people have lost their lives, and they sit in court and report on heart rending cases; the ongoing case of Sara Sharif is a case in point.

I’m a bit surprised that people don’t see the difference. The election in the US takes place every four years. It’s newsworthy, but it’s not nervous breakdown inducing. We may not like the result, but we don’t like the result of many elections. We have to live with it. In four years time, someone else will be in charge.

I saw where you had reproduced the email.
I don’t understand why those at The Guardian would need any kind of support because of the result of a foreign election.
As I said, journalists are working everyday in situations much more challenging than those who are in the offices of The Guardian.
I said last night I was losing the will to live. I’m beginning to feel that way again.

There is alot of media hostility in the Trump rhetoric and I suppose it's an obvious opportunity to remind staff that they aren't alone.

Pragmatically, if Harris had won by a small margin and we'd had a repeat of 2020 violence - but worse, possibly, yes. It really is a storm in a teacup once you've read the actual email anyway.

Yes MaizieD, there has been a lot of mocking and goading on this thread, but then there are a lot of Trump supporters posting. Could there be a correlation? Do they admire him so much, that some have adopted his rude behaviour?
Poster upthread mentioned the danger that journalists can find themselves in. It certainly is the case in Gaza, news of which has been sidelined just now. Suggestions have been made that the IDF is actively targeting them.

No journalists are allowed into Gaza, so not sure how the IDF are targeting them in Gaza.
Are you saying foreign journalists are being targeted in Israel by the IDF?
I’ve seen many British journalists reporting from Jerusalem on mainstream British media (BBC and others) and they don’t look to be in any danger. Except perhaps, from the rockets being launched by Hamas and Hezbollah and even Iran.

Well, that didn't take long. Lady Google is very useful, and you can check it for yourself, for example, 'Israel has killed more journalists in Gaza than any conflict in 30 years'.
So, yes, it can be dangerous to be a journalist in a war zone and, as the French found out, in your own office, and if people in power plan to 'come after you' then you have a right to be scared.

There’s a def infantilising of adults now so much so that it’s worrying.Nobody can feel upset or have their sensitive feelings hurt and this includes students acting like toddlers in a play nursery with cookies and Lego or the cancel culture going on or, it appears newspaper journalists, who used to be a hard lot, being asked if they need to talk to somebody if upset by the DT win.
Just been watching a tv programme on the Battle Of Britain, those brave young pilots in their early 20’s one Hurricane pilot with only two months experience of flying one, shot down into Essex mud.It was a bravura performance by the British pilots facing overwhelming odds.
Not that we want young men or women to have to face a war, but you do wonder, given the mental and physical mollycoddling going on right now how we would fare if there really was one.🤔

Apart from any war scenario, it doesn’t bode well for any young man or woman to treat them like kids, how will they withstand the real knocks in life.

It's also easier for posters to fail to understand that a comparison of what some people are saying with things that Trump says is not the same as asserting that, because they sound like Trump they must be Trump supporters. they just seem to have the same sort of mindset.

I don't see much 'exploring of issues, I'm afraid, Galaxy. I see lots of judgmentalism and derision.
