I think so.

He's just as guilty as Paula Vennells in my opinion..
To think how many times he's lectured us on issues, yet all the while covering up for a prolific pedophile, (Smyth) a sexual predator.
A supposed man of the cloth?? , his kind disgust me .

petra sorry for your granddaughter whatever pride was there on the occasion has been surely tainted. Her role is not diminished. HIS is.

Do the honourable thing and resign pdq.

MissAdventure

He should be thrown out, not given the option of choosing to resign.

This.

Galaxy Mon 11-Nov-24 19:58:20

Yes.

welbeck Mon 11-Nov-24 20:03:31

These types of things are not just in the distant past.
See Mike Pilavachi at Soul Survivor Watford.
Not sure if the archbishop knew about that but lots in the church of England must have.

He shouldn’t be given an option to resign, he should be sacked, defrocked and then damn well charged. He’d have saved some of the kids going through terrible atrocities if only he’d been a decent human being.

Nightsky2 Mon 11-Nov-24 20:12:28

If he refuses to resign he should be sacked.

Yes.
Surely he of all people should see the error of his ways.

Sparklefizz Mon 11-Nov-24 20:23:08

He should go immediately. He's a disgrace.

Freya5 Mon 11-Nov-24 20:46:02

He won't resign, he likes the power to pontificate to all, whilst not looking into this horrid abuse.
He'll need to be sacked to be got rid of.

MissAdventure Mon 11-Nov-24 20:47:10

Somebody needs to put the rubbish out.

keepingquiet Mon 11-Nov-24 20:49:21

King Charles, as the Head of the Anglican Church, is the only one who can sack him?

MissAdventure Mon 11-Nov-24 20:50:28

That's what he needs to do, then.

All the young people ( teenagers) that were there that day were chosen because they had worked so hard to get out of some really dark places.
I could cry when I know what some of them are feeling.
They are of an age to know exactly what’s being said and written about him.
It’s possible that lots of them are thinking whats the f%##+@g point and I wouldn’t blame them.

I'm sure it would be a formality if it was recommended by Crown Appointments committee to the Prime minister who will advise the King.

This is what they should be recommending, or perhaps he will go of his own accord before he's pushed.

Will he remain a life peer?

This sort of covering up has been part of religious institutions forever. Time and time again they get away with it, seemingly more concerned with their image than the safety of children. It is unforgivable.

He should resign.

25Avalon Mon 11-Nov-24 22:03:22

Wow we are all agreed, so far anyway, he should go.

Mollygo Mon 11-Nov-24 22:11:51

He should definitely resign, or be removed by some other means.
However
Who else knew? Who were the people who made him aware about this back in 2013 or before. What did they do and should they too be held responsible?

pinkprincess Mon 11-Nov-24 22:12:34

What a disgusting example he is.
With behaviour like that from a leading clergyman it is no wonder church going is low.

👏 👏 👏
Yes, all religious institutions wherever.

By 2013 the world had moved on enough for this to be totally unacceptable. No excuses.

Jane43 Mon 11-Nov-24 22:20:16

The moment he knew what was going on without taking any action was the moment he was equally culpable. He should go.

Witzend Mon 11-Nov-24 22:25:17

What amazes me after the monumental scandal over Catholic priests, is that any cleric could imagine that it’s all right to sweep such matters under the carpet.
Of course he should go.

Allira Mon 11-Nov-24 22:26:48

It's astonishing, isn't it, Witzend!

I honestly thought better of him than this and must say I am very disappointed.

Wyllow3 Mon 11-Nov-24 22:33:50

The General Synod of the Church of England should be called out on this one to meet and reach a decision, which can only go one way, Welby should step down: currently it needs more senior church people to speak up on this.
