I like Rachel Teeves at least she has knowledge of economics unlike the numerous chancellors from the last government. Plus she hasn’t been fidddling millions in tax unlike zahawi.

Economists come in a variety of 'schools' of economy. unfortunately Reeves belongs to the 'school' of economic thought which has dominated many developed countries over the past 40 years and has succeeded in promoting growing inequality and allowed the wealthy to acquire more and more of nation's resources.

We all saw what happened in the loosely regulated banking sector in 2008, an event which took economists following the accepted orthodoxy entirely by surprise. Unsurprisingly it was predicted by a number of heterodox economists who could see what was coming but were powerless to do anything about it.

Reeeves is once again promoting deregulation of the banking sector and placing her trust in 'the market', that is, the market of financial speculation and extremely dodgy practices which has resulted in failed privatisations in the UK and increasing hardship for more and more UK citizens.

I'm afraid that any confidence engendered by Reeves' 'economist' label is sorely misplaced.

I agree with MaisieD with regard to the de regulation of the banking sector. I think we saw last time that it can't be trusted to behave sensibly.

No she's not a robber. She is a horrible individual and she doesn't care how many people she hurts.

She doesn't care if people will die from the cold.
She doesn't care that people may lose their jobs due to employer NI increases.
She doesn't care that shops will continue to increase prices.
She doesn't care about poor NHS services.
She doesn't care that her lies are so easily exposed.

She's warm and toasty in her lair. She will never have to worry about surviving on a pension or keeping warm. She is set for life.

Inflation is rising because of energy prices and still high interest rates.

It has nothing to do with pay rises. In fact, the pay rises should be adding a little bit to growth in the economy as the recipients will be able to buy more. Except, of course, if their energy bills or mortgage rates are increasing.

I find it odd that these "tough decisions" don't include encouraging MPs not to take their "energy" allowance, or to review the £360 per day paid to those who turn up at the House of Lords. I have tried writing to my new Labour MP and Ms Reeves about this and have not received a reply!

Name calling is certainly more common in the playground, but once again it was OK if used about Conservatives but unacceptable if used for Labour.

I am attempting to cancel my X membership, it is disappointing to come on here and find the same name calling and irrational claims about Rachel Reeves.

The irony seems to completely escape some posters, who also appear to have the shortest memories in existence.

Primrose makes the point succinctly. She reminds those of us with short memories of the name calling on here, on Gransnet, by mature adults, that was dished out about Boris Johnson, Theresa May, Margaret Thatcher, and I could add a few others. The most vile things were said about David Cameron and Osborne with regards to their activities with pigs!! And the posters weren’t talking about farming!

Trump (and I’m not a fan, just to make it clear) came in for some vile comments. When he was about to make an official visit here during the time he was President, posters on here were saying that they would go to London and demonstrate their hatred of him by standing at the roadside as his car passed, and by then turning around and baring their bottoms at him (do a moonie at him.) Now if that’s not childish I seriously don’t know what is. And one of the posters who said that is still on here! I remember that much. Probably others are too.

So whatever the supporters of Rachel Reeves have had to endure, it’s absolutely nothing compared to what has been written on Gransnet in the past, about other politicians who those posters think it okay to be rude about.

But to be fair, maybe their memories aren’t just short, but . . .

I’m of the opinion that two wrongs don’t make a right. It’s again playground nonsense - well she said x so I said y. Some things are worth commenting on - Nigel Farage dressing up as Toad of Toad Hall made me laugh when I read that description. I guess that observation was humorous - I don’t think politicians are exempt from satire over some of the mad things they say/ wear / do - it’s a tradition that goes back centuries. Just name calling - doesn’t really cut it.

It seems it doesn't matter whom you insult or call names as long as it is not Labour. They have made a mess in such a short time.
