Is Queen Camilla more poorly than we think?

She wasn’t well enough to attend the Remembrance Service. Now it’s been confirmed that she will not be going to the Royal Variety Performance tonight. (Not that I blame her, I’d duck it too if it was on my itinerary). However these engagements are 3 weeks apart. It got me wondering. I hope she’s okay.

I've had a mild viral pneumonia, many years ago. Had a persistent cough and felt rather unwell but not so bad I couldn't get on with things and was very surprised when GP told me what I'd got. She's clearly being well looked after and has the opportunity to rest and recuperate.

vintage1950, I had what I thought was a flu type virus and tried to keep working. My gp wrote a sick note against my instructions, no I said, I can’t take time off this week. You can and will, he said, you’ve got pneumonia, go home to bed. I was about 43, so a much fitter woman than I am now at 75. I really feel for Camilla, this will take some time to recover from. I hope she’s able to avoid too much exposure to other people, her immune system will be low. Plus she’s faced the awful reality of a cancer diagnosis in her husband (and the Princess of wales)

Allira

I'm taking iron with Vits B as well but this virus seems to be the gift that keeps on giving!

I know what you mean. Every time I think I've turned a corner it just starts again. My poor nose is raw, literally bleeding and scabbed from blowing it.

On the news tonight it said that Camilla had had pneumonia.
So not just a Royal “chill”
Hope she is fully recovered very soon.

Put a smear of baseline on the outer edges of the nose to help it recover.

welbeck Wed 04-Dec-24 00:14:31

Vaseline.

welbeck

Vaseline.

Thanks. My big problem is I get bad cold sores including on my nose and any sort of trauma (this has been trauma) can kick off a big outbreak so antivirals are the important thing for me. I am hoping that I won't be covered in the horrible things in the lead up to Christmas.

I think Camilla has Parkinson's she displays a tremor and other symptoms that would be exacerbated and harder to hide following an infection

She was at the State Banquet last night for the Emir of Qatar

Camilla used to be a very heavy smoker .
I hope that she hasn't got the beginnings of COPD .
Colds that turn into persistent chest infections can be a sign .
Hopefully not , it's a horrible illness .

I guess so. She's quite frail looking and a heavy cold can really wear you out. Hope she does get the chance to rest up over the next couple of months. Although I like Charles, don't imagine he is that good at really understanding other people's maladies.

I hear somewhere that she actually had been suffering with pneumonia, think it might have been on the news.

Calendargirl Wed 04-Dec-24 15:29:43

I think Charles will have appreciated how much extra has fallen on Camilla’s shoulders the last few months sandelf.

Not only his cancer, but Catherine’s as well, plus the Princess Royal was out of action a while ago.

I’m sure, alongside his own ill health, he realises how dependent he is for support from others, particularly from his ‘darling wife’.

Sheian57 Wed 04-Dec-24 16:25:03

Charles' wife needs to give up the fag's. Plus she's getting on so her lungs are troubling her due to age. She's probably caught germs on the recent flight from Australia and as Charles has been off duty due to cancer, she is wanting a break so letting the others fill in. I don't like her and certainly don't think she should be titled. The Queen should be a term only for Queen regnant. She is a consort due to her marriage.

welbeck Wed 04-Dec-24 16:31:12

Every wife of a king is properly titled queen.
Even after the death of said king eg queen Alexandra.
Queen Mary.
Queen Elizabeth the queen mother.

welbeck Wed 04-Dec-24 16:32:40

Queen Camilla gave up smoking over 20 years ago.

Sennelier1 Wed 04-Dec-24 16:32:41

I do hope she's o.k., but as we all know, growing older has a serious impact on recuperation-time after any illness. When I was a young mother I simply worked through whatever cold, flu, cough etc. Now I'm 66 and I feel it takes me a few weeks to have my strenght back. Camilla is older, so I guess she needs more time❤️‍🩹

I like Queen Camilla and think she is exactly right for King Charles. My Mum had COPD due to heavy smoking all her life. She frequently had bouts of bronchitis, pneumonia and pleurisy so hopefully the Queen has given up the fags as they will only exacerbate a distressing complaint that will deteriorate with age. I wish her well.

yellowfox Wed 04-Dec-24 16:41:41

When I have had nasty coughs, colds chest infection (which she has had) it can take me weeks to get better.
People are different, why start surmising there is more to it?

sandelf Wed 04-Dec-24 16:42:30

You are probably right.

ReadyMeals Wed 04-Dec-24 17:45:29

Pneumonia does really knock you for six. Most people recover fully but it takes a bit longer than for just an uncomplicated case of flu. She looks like she's mending in a reasonable time frame.

Jess20 Wed 04-Dec-24 17:51:33

If she's got a persistent cough she'd really have to avoid public events, I'd imagine coughing through the Variety Performance or serious public events isn't a good look, even if not due to a serious cause.

Celieanne86 Wed 04-Dec-24 17:59:39

Ive got this chest infection that’s going around 8 days now and I’ve never felt so ill in my life, not even following surgery. I completely lost my voice for three days. It’s just gradually coming back and I can squeak now all I want to do was sleep but now I’ve got a cough that’s keeping me awake.
If Camilla felt half as bad as I do no wonder she hasn’t done any engagements but she does look fantastic at the banquet and I hope she is fully recovered from whatever she suffered from as she is doing a wonderful job supporting the king.

Nicksmrs46 Wed 04-Dec-24 18:41:06

I heard today that Queen Camilla’s chest infection has now become pneumonia, hoping she recovers quickly☹️

eazybee Wed 04-Dec-24 19:23:39

I believe Camilla's chest infection was due to pneumonia, which she no longer has, but was viral rather than bacterial.
I think both she and Katherine are stepping up to help Charles in his duties when all three have been ill. Good for them.
