Just looked and it is flying! 1,008,051 a few minutes ago.

All furious that Labour are going back on their promises.

Starmer is going nowhere.
Get used to having some grown-ups around.

All those saying they had to “suck it up” over Brexit. Don’t make me laugh! Starmer himself did his very best to get it overturned for 4 years and all his supporters have never stopped going on about it since the Referendum.

We were told to 'suck it up' over Brexit. Some did as they were told, others didn't.

So, you take your pick.

You can suck it up that there won't be another GE for a number of years, yet, or you can go on moaning. At least you have the prospect of another vote. Unlike those who didn't want to leave the EU.

Over 100 MP's from all parties have now joined the All Party Parliamentary Group for Fair Elections.. so maybe we will have Proportional Representation in the future despite Labour, on the whole, being against it..

Wyllow3 Mon 25-Nov-24 18:59:50

I don't think there is any appetite at all for an election with the public.

I know it was mentioned above, but Elon Musk using X to boost publicity for a UK petition disgusts me. Be very careful if you sign who you are *really supporting - his intention is to crash the UK*

I am not sure that a general election in the near future would be a good idea.

No, far too much disruption.

*The hypocrisy, and dishonesty of this is just unbelievable.*
is what many people think about the Labour Government so far, even Labour voters.

Re Brexit:
All the arguments in the UK (or from those not in the UK) don’t change the fact that Brexit happened, because not enough voted Remain.

Brexit was a result of complacency.
Voters who would have voted Remain did not vote; they assumed it would be a foregone conclusion.

Anyway, it happened, we must look forwards not backwards.

Allira Mon 25-Nov-24 16:01:25

The hypocrisy, and dishonesty of this is just unbelievable.

We've seen so far that this Government is hypocritical, because they immediately made changes for which they criticised the Tories when they were thinking of doing the same.

Some of their initial decisions are going to backfire as they will not stimulate the economy, they will have the opposite effect.
But it's early days, they can't be so stupid that they are not listening.
Unless they think "You turn if you want to. This Government's not for turning".

Mollygrow- yes, I will never forgive those who knew how bad Brexit would be, but believed the result would be massively remain, they didn't bother to vote.

But the demographics have changed, so many who voted for B are now no longer with us, and so many youngsters who are totally against, were not able to at the time.

Fact is, over 70% are now clearly very sorry it happened and realise it was a massive mistake. Democratically, 8 years later, they should be able to change that decision.

Whilst I completely agree with all you’ve said, imo, we simply cannot afford to re- join. We already had a good deal which many many people chose to dispute, so here we are!

The hypocrisy, and dishonesty of this is just unbelievable.

Since 2016 we have had SIX PMs, some of them voted in by a tiny weeny little group, and 4 different Brexit Deals.

And those Brexiters who proclaimed that voting on the above Brexit Deals would be totally undemocratic- and with the evidence that over 70% are now against. want another election 4 months after the last one, because they are not keen on the results so far.

Just un be lie va ble sad

👏👏👏👏👏

So you agree that the language and attitude to GN members is ok?
Charming! It’s the sort of thing daft teenagers say.

No I don’t but in this very specific issues it’s absolutely fine to disagree with any democratically elected govt., and to be very dissatisfied with those in power, but however flawed our election system may be it is responsible for electing various parties across many many years.

IMO, it’s just plain daft to raise a pointless petition against a govt in power less than 6 months. Be patient, good things might yet come from this govt’s actions, and if they don’t we all will have a chance in four years time to vote them out,

All this petition nonsense does is to ensure that this country has bad publicity and will stem the likelihood of inward investment. At least there is an attempt to do something which wasn’t happening with the last government with all their ridiculous infighting and inability to elect a leader of any calibre. They got rid of Theresa May who brokered a credible deal with Europe and received respect. Went for the lies of a journalist comedian who had political ambition but not much else.

That's what worries me, too.

It will, of course, also give more ammunition to Elon Musk who is determined to foment discord in the UK - he seems to want a civil war (he'll be disappointed).

I agree. Wholly negative. With consequences.

Here was a chance to put put a petition that actually made positive proposals, whether we agree or disagree

- all it is is a one trick click moan which just makes us look foolish.

I'm a remain voter and perfectly happy to give this government time to do their job. Five years isn't it.

Fleurpepper Mon 25-Nov-24 13:07:27

Perhaps some here missed the one where 6.2m people signed for the revocation of Article 50 and for the UK to remain in the EU..

Boz Mon 25-Nov-24 12:26:33

What amuses me is that this Gov. is doing stuff the Tories wouldn't dare do. Hitting the Tory vote may be a strategy but they should beware the power of the Establishment in Britain.

Allira Mon 25-Nov-24 11:36:56

We've had a democratic vote.

However, unless they are stupid, they will realise they are angering people and that intransigence is not always an admirable trait.

I always think that if you haven’t exercised you right to vote then you have exhausted your right to moan regarding the result.

I think that many people didn't vote because they thought it was such a no brainer that the majority would be for Remain.

I even have a friend who voted 'Leave' for a laugh... He was mortified when Leave won.

Unfortunately I think that might be true..
