Just looked and it is flying! 1,008,051 a few minutes ago.

All furious that Labour are going back on their promises.

There's another thread on this. Just suck it up like we all had to do after Brexit.

Romola Sun 24-Nov-24 16:19:45

Well we all know how much AI-generated "signatures" get into these so-called petitions.

Primrose53 Sun 24-Nov-24 16:42:57

Sorry, duplicated thread. I did search and nothing came up.

There were some broken 'promises' after the Referendum too - especially the one plastered on that roseate-coloured bus, but anyone calling for another vote would've been shouted down (and were). It was pointed out to them that this was the result of a democratic vote - end of.

Someone - I can't remember who it was - a Tory politicians anyway, explained the the 'promise' plastered on the bus was not actually a promise - more an 'explanation' or floating-idea of what could be done with the money saved each week by leaving the EU.

So I'm not sure how much weight these broken 'promises' will carry.

If only people had 'sucked brexit up'.

I really want whoever is in power to succeed and improve the NHS, state education, keep citizens safe, and make sure the young, sick and elderly are cared for. Both Conservatives and Labour seem incapable of doing these things.

The petition will make no difference but it should make KS and his MPs take a long hard look at themselves. Have they forgotten already how many votes reform got. How many times they came second?

The Tories are a long way off being forgiven for the mess they made. Labour have made an appalling start. I really worry who people will turn to at the next election.

🤣🤣🤣 tough, now you know what we went through for years

dayvidg Sun 24-Nov-24 17:39:15

At least Brexit was voted for by a majority, unlike any Government since 1935.

RosiesMaw2 Sun 24-Nov-24 17:42:25

In your dreams
You can sign all the petitions but we now have a system of fixed term parliaments so even a vote of no confidence in the government is not enough.
Dream on.

It wasn’t, we don’t have a compulsory voting system, and not over 50% of eligible voters voted for Brexit.

Starmer said things would get worse so it's not like we weren't warned.

Won't make any difference.. We are stuck with this lot.
Be careful what you wish for...

Oreo Sun 24-Nov-24 17:57:49

So you agree that the language and attitude to GN members is ok?
Charming! It’s the sort of thing daft teenagers say.

Oreo Sun 24-Nov-24 17:58:19

To Cossy and Fleurpepper btw

Mollygo Sun 24-Nov-24 17:58:29

Not over 50% of eligible voters voted for Brexit.
Absolutely true, but a larger % of those who did vote got off their rear ends and voted for it.

Sadly a smaller %of those adamantly anti Brexit bothered to vote at all.
Well done to all who voted remain and shame on those who didn’t bother, but still moan about the result their apathy caused.

I hope that’s not true with the petitions mentioned on GN today, but I suspect you may be right.

Oreo Sun 24-Nov-24 17:59:59

It’s pointless putting signatures to something like this as it’s a five year term. There won’t be another election unless something really significant happened.

What we need, is not another elelction. the result would probably be much the same.

We need an effective form of proportional representation that means the votes of the majority of voters are more fairly represented in Parliament.

Yes, indeed.

This petition is fronted by someone who lives in Sweden and a huge number of those who apparently are in favour, don't actually live in Britain.

mum2three Mon 25-Nov-24 05:59:51

This must be the only time this has happened so soon after a new parliament has got in. How humiliating! However, they are probably too thick-skinned to be bothered.
Trouble is....the country is still in the same situation....no viable alternative. The Conservatives and Reform need more time to get themselves properly organised.

Pointless, they are in for 5 years unfortunately. Its a pity that any party cannot abide by their Election promises. We are a democracy which people do not appreciate so we are stuck with them.. Don't want to get like the Brexit lot who still waffle on about how unfair it was as they did not understand or be bothered. Everyone understood what Labour said but not that they would do the opposite once in. We are stuck with them and they have just started.

If nothing happens Labour would have to be incredibly thick to not understand the anger of millions of people signing the petition.
