Well - what a surprise to hear this news.....

It appears the United States Prosecutor, Jack Smith, has ordered that all charges against Donald Trump be dropped.
Donald Trump had announced his intention to sack Jack Smith as soon as he was sworn in as President.
The one surprising feature of this matter is that it seemed worthy of only page 30 of my newspaper this morning.

ileea

Getting rid of the illegal immigrants will cause a lot of problems for the employers as a lot pay below minimum or they are jobs that are hard to fill due to the type of work.
(I'm Canadian so I get to hear way too much about it)

Right~~ Also, by instituting tariffs on imported products he will be penalizing all the middle & lower middle class folks who voted for him.

He's blaming us [Canada] for illegal immigrants crossing into the USA, when it's the USA's responsibility to control THEIR border~~ Grrrrr

Unfortunately, when the USA sneezes, we get a cold~~

Right.... I'm tired of hearing about Trump & some of the USA political nonsense.

Something gleaned from personal knowledge from an American friend. If a person does work for Trump, they often don't get paid for the job. When they complain Trump shrugs and says "So sue me". America is so welcome to him.

Seems to be related only to the mishandling of government documents at Mar-o-laga? (at this stage)

www.cbsnews.com/news/special-counsel-jack-smith-end-bid-to-revive-trump-documents-case/

But Trump has made no secret that he intends to change the justice system to make judicial appointments political ones.

"Should the disclosure of Smith's findings stall and be delayed into the Trump administration, the odds of its release become increasingly slim as the president-elect has said he intends to nominate many of his top defense attorneys to leadership roles within the Justice Department.

Todd Blanche and Emil Bove, who defended Trump in the two federal cases and in New York, are set to serve as deputy attorney general and principal associate deputy attorney general respectively, two powerful posts within the Justice Department.

Trump has said he will nominate former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi for the top job as attorney general. "

No it relates to both…SADLY. Let’s hope he or someone else can bring both back after his4 years are up…IF the egregious felon does manage to change the Constitution and stay there! 😱😱😱😱

Bad news when the justice systems serves politicians

He highly unlikely to put 25% tariffs on Canada because they will put reciprocal tariffs on US goods into Canada. Canada supplies a lot of oil, gas and minerals to the US, they would not like it if the Canadians cut production
Mexico, he really wants them to do more to stop migrants, and to stop China using Mexico as a back door into the US, probably some limited tariffs.

If you want to hear more about Trump and the charges against him the Prosecuting Donald Trump podcast is the one you want.

It's extremely comprehensive and goes through the legalities in detail.
My husband has been listening to this from the start and I've dipped in and out. It is detailed and thorough.

Goldieoldie, I agree with you. The judicial system and the political system should be at arms length ( or even further) , not in bed together.

David49 Fri 29-Nov-24 09:22:43

Justice is always political, there are always decisions that it is not in the public interest to prosecute, how much is spent on policing, how long sentences should be and how much of that is actually served.

Drugs are illegal yet nobody gets prosecuted for using, the bane of our society.

MaizieD Fri 29-Nov-24 09:29:49

There may be decisions not to prosecute, David, but once a case gets to court we can be pretty confident that our judges base their judgements on the law, not on political considerations.

That's what an independent judiciary is all about.

Oh come on Maizie polititians make the law, everything is debated, amended and voted on in parliament, the new spiking law is an example.

It’s not usually party political like the US but not that different.

David49 Fri 29-Nov-24 13:16:51

Assisted Dying bill going through now I don’t think it’s party political, but I bet any Abortion Legislation is in the US

Wyllow3 Fri 29-Nov-24 13:30:11

Spiking is hardly controversial.

The highest court in the UK, the Supreme Court, is appointed from within the judiciary. In the USA it's appointed by the president of the day and is highly politicised.

The political appointment of judges at lower levels make a huge difference. (a good read of Grisham novels brings it vividly to life!). Cases of chemical pollution the rivers and the air and land by huge rich companies who can buy "justice". Long complex cases of fraud were justice s purchased on the old boys network and the best lawyers. Those who cannot afford to sue for medical fees/negligence and connections between the big insurance health providers and local politics....

That activist prosecutor plans to resign before President Trump takes office. The trumped up charges were what's called Lawfare in US. Use of justice dept to go after the opposition. In the one case dozens of misdemeanors were changed to felonies by activists. Totally nutty

Thankfully the country will be getting back on the right track come January. Elections were a repudiation of liberals and progressive BS.

Pull the other one.

Georgia vote:

At one point on the call, Trump told Raffensperger, "What I want to do is this. I just want to find, uh, 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have, because we won the state." During the call, Trump falsely suggested that Raffensperger could have committed a criminal offense by refusing to overturn the state's election results

Capitol invasion

Government secret documents at Mar o laga

corrupt through and through.

“Spiking is hardly controversial.”

It’s not controversial but it is a new law that will be drawn up and approved by polititians in parliament.
The Judges apply the law, there are many case where verdicts get overturned on appeal, reinstated , then overturned again.
Yes, sometime you can’t afford to fight a big money company, but it’s just as common for a company to settle rather than fight a damages case in court, particularly in the US where damages can be $10s of millions and more.
