He highly unlikely to put 25% tariffs on Canada because they will put reciprocal tariffs on US goods into Canada. Canada supplies a lot of oil, gas and minerals to the US, they would not like it if the Canadians cut production
Mexico, he really wants them to do more to stop migrants, and to stop China using Mexico as a back door into the US, probably some limited tariffs.

Goldieoldie, I agree with you. The judicial system and the political system should be at arms length ( or even further) , not in bed together.

Justice is always political, there are always decisions that it is not in the public interest to prosecute, how much is spent on policing, how long sentences should be and how much of that is actually served.

Drugs are illegal yet nobody gets prosecuted for using, the bane of our society.

There may be decisions not to prosecute, David, but once a case gets to court we can be pretty confident that our judges base their judgements on the law, not on political considerations.

That's what an independent judiciary is all about.

Oh come on Maizie polititians make the law, everything is debated, amended and voted on in parliament, the new spiking law is an example.

The highest court in the UK, the Supreme Court, is appointed from within the judiciary. In the USA it's appointed by the president of the day and is highly politicised.

The political appointment of judges at lower levels make a huge difference. (a good read of Grisham novels brings it vividly to life!). Cases of chemical pollution the rivers and the air and land by huge rich companies who can buy "justice". Long complex cases of fraud were justice s purchased on the old boys network and the best lawyers. Those who cannot afford to sue for medical fees/negligence and connections between the big insurance health providers and local politics....

The Judges apply the law, there are many case where verdicts get overturned on appeal, reinstated , then overturned again.
Yes, sometime you can’t afford to fight a big money company, but it’s just as common for a company to settle rather than fight a damages case in court, particularly in the US where damages can be $10s of millions and more.
