Greg Wallace suspended amid accusations of sexual misconduct.
I actually think his reply to the accusations has probs done far more damage than good.
Men like this are now social dinosaurs and simply refuse to read the room.

Sorry the link didn’t work 🤔

(Hi Babs in case you are interested there's a thread under the TV and Arts going on about Wallace.)

Babs03 Sun 01-Dec-24 15:59:11

Thanx 👍

I agree that his response threw petrol on the flames.
A spot of contrition and humility might have been more helpful.

Indeed, I couldn't believe my ears!

Presumably if he had apologised it would be taken in law that he was guilty of inappropriate behaviour which he denies it seems.

I think Ricky Gervais nailed him.
he’s a bloke from another age….. the dinosaur age
Brilliant 👏👏👏👏👏

Oreo Sun 01-Dec-24 20:09:56

Ricky Gervase is a dinosaur himself, it takes one to know one.

I just can’t understand , when a person becomes a tv celebrity they think they can say anything they like.

Greg Wallis was a creep before he became a celebrity.

Petra - I feel like that about Ricky Gervais!

Maybe "Masterchef" should be finished now? It's had a good enough run over several years but the current furorè involving Greg Wallace has, IMHO, done for it.
It's now tainted beyond redemption - it will now be defined and associated forever with Greg Wallace, his alledged behaviour and that astonishing statement in an attempt to pile responsibility for his attitudes and (possible) actions on women "of a certain age."
Just as "Jim'll Fix It" is hideously tarnished for good, then "Masterchef" is destined to go the same way bar a miracle.

OldFrill Mon 02-Dec-24 05:33:03

Jim'll Fix It was very much Saville's show, he fronted it.
The various MasterChef shows are very much about the chefs. Greg Wallace played a fairly minor part, not appearing in every show. Many if the chefs have advanced into TV/media themselves.
I don't think the programmes are comparable. MasterChef may have run out of steam anyway (don't know the current viewing figures) but the show is much more than just Greg Wallace.

Me too.
He puts my teeth on edge.
Certain male celebrities raise red flags for me, Wallace always did and Gervais is another.

Babs03 Mon 02-Dec-24 08:18:30

Russell Brand was just a giant red flag, I found him disgusting from the get go.

Wallace may have played a minor part but his loud and raucous personality drowned Masterchef - the media automatically link Masterchef with Greg Wallace whenever and wherever his name is mentioned.

He's sunk that particular BBC ship.

Most men tend to joke about sex and the such like and Greg Wallis is no exception, to them it’s just a lot of silly banter . Also , a lot of women go along with this type banter , it’s all just a lot of silly fun and banter as how people tend to be like , they do tend to joke about their sex lives ect ect . I’ve seen many a female laughing at what men joke about , I belong to few groups with men present and they are forever joking about , ok , so they joke about sex , but the women engage with them every time , in fact most women like a man with good sense humour. To say that he went “ topless “ ..how can a man who doesn’t wear a shirt be regarded as “ topless “, what a silly statement .
The women who have accused him are well out of order in my opinion . They no doubt joked with him at the time but then decided to complain about him . For a guy who’s good at his job and have recorded so many tv shows I think these women vengeful now , the poor man is well in the limelight because of a handful of spiteful women who are out to destroy him .

Oh, and just to add, I’m not particularly a fan of Wallis it’s just that I don’t like to see a man’s career and reputation destroyed by a handful of women who , no doubt , took part in his “ jokes “ at the time .

Also , Rod Stuart’s wife was happy to be on Celebrity Masterchef at the time as I’m a big fan of the show and could tell she enjoyed her time being on there . If she really were offended as she makes out the why did she continue being a contestant in the show when she could have bowed out . And for Sir Rod criticism of how Wallis looks like is very insulting as he’s no oil painting either maybe he should look in the mirror .

It would be a shame for Monica Galetti if Masterchef were to finish because of Greg Wallace. Monica gave up her fantastic restaurant, Mere in Fitzrovia, to work on the TV show. I know it was her career choice, but it would be a big blow for her.

Sorry but i disagree Masterchef isn’t automatically linked to Greg Wallis , he is not in every single episode . . Also his loud and raucous personality is no different to many other personalities on television . He does bring light hearted humour to a what could be otherwise a dull and boring show

Babs03 Mon 02-Dec-24 09:25:55

@Dibbydod, I think the general idea here is to believe women if they say they felt a man’s conduct was inappropriate sexually, rather than giving examples that seek to dismiss this. The whole sweeping under the carpet of bad behaviour by men should have disappeared with the beginning of this century.

Smudgie Mon 02-Dec-24 09:42:16

Couldn't agree more Dibbydod! I worked in the NHS for many years and the sexist banter between male and female colleagues had to be heard to be believed, some of the worst coming from the doctors themselves. I certainly don't condone what Wallis is alleged to have done and it sounded pretty nauseating but a withering look and a cutting remark from a woman (in front of other women) usually worked with these pathetic men who think they are God's gift. I've never really liked him, his shouting did my head in and you could tell he fancied himself, I watched it for Marcus Wareing and Monica. In fact this is the first time that I have not seen any of the episodes due to my opinion that it had run its course and was becoming very repetitive. My view of the BBC is unprintable, I resent the licence fee as I consider the Corporation to be biased and woke; how many more scandals will they preside over and cover up?. The women on the end of his sexual abuse should have gone as one to the producers and complained, if it wasn't taken seriously they could have walked out and yes, I too thought Rod Stuart was out of order and showed himself to be a nasty foul mouthed "celebrity", it's time a lot of them shut up and spared us their banal comments.

eddiecat78 Mon 02-Dec-24 09:45:01

Dibbydod you obviously live in a very different world from me. I have many friends who I have known for decades but we have never "joked about our sexlives". Yes I have worked in offices where there was banter but it was never done in a personal or humiliating way. It was not just 'banter' when Greg made a point of telling women he wasn't wearing underpants .In my opinion there is also something dodgy about a 60 year old man regularly posting photos of himself shirtless just to show off his muscles.
And personally I was furious about his comments ridiculing "women of a certain age" - presumably because he finds their concerns of no importance
