People in glass houses.....

Despite repeatedly saying he would never do this as he believed in justice, President Biden has granted his son, Hunter, an official pardon on gun and tax evasion charges, despite Hunter pleading guilty. Up pops Trump howling about the abuse and gross miscarriage of justice!! People in glass houses.............

I would like to ask you all, how many of you have actually lived in the US? I have spent nearly half my life in England before settling here. I think I am probably more qualified than most of you to make comments about both countries….

As I’m sure you realise Artols everybody has different opinions, which are shaped by political bias. Your opinion is not more valid, even if it is informed by experience. The USA is split pretty much 50/50 Republican/Democrat, so there are plenty of people there who don’t share your views.

Not necessarily.
You have spent half your life, presumably the most recent half of your life in the US.

So that means for example, since you’re on GN that you might be 50, or 60 or even 70 so you’ve not lived in the UK in this century.

Things don’t stay the same as you left them, whether it’s a country or a job.

Both you and I have the advantage of seeing/hearing more up to date and endless reports about each other’s countries like Trump’s endorsement of the storming of the Capitol building, or his conviction as a felon, coupled with his apparent determination to pardon himself which make us feel able to comment.

Can I ask you how you feel about the insurrection, given that it resulted in people being killed? I can only assume that you think it was justified?

My sister has lived half her life in the UK and the last half in Spain tbh much as I love her I wouldn't trust her judgement on politics in Spain or the UK. Why? Basically she's just not that bright or informed, which could be a dangerous combination fortunately she'd rather give her opinion on cleaning floor tiles and how to cook a really good paella. I trust her judgement on matters like that!

Why come on a discussion board Arto1s

and when people say things you don't agree with, just tell them that they don't know what they're talking about.

Galaxy Wed 04-Dec-24 19:00:29

Many of the posts are saying the same though, those they dont agree with are brainwashed, illinformed, etc.

You have no idea what is going on over here

Such rubbish on here. Biden and his whole family are corrupt criminals. I cannot wait for Trump to be a real President.

That is your view and possibly other people. Others would say the same about Trump.

Heaven help you over there with weak Starmer.

Arto1s Wed 04-Dec-24 19:25:10

We will have to continue to agree that we disagree among each other.

So our posts aren't rubbish then?
Just a different opinion?

Arto1s Wed 04-Dec-24 19:52:49

This back and forth is getting tiresome Allira

Waiting for an ‘informed’ answer…

HappyYoga Wed 04-Dec-24 20:35:46

I can't blame him. It has been a witch hunt regarding Hunter Biden. What he is accused of is normally dismissed.

I was hoping for an answer Attols. How do you regard Trump?

Mollygo Wed 04-Dec-24 21:40:40

Sorry Artols

Galaxy Wed 04-Dec-24 21:44:49

This isnt going to work you know. You have to have standards, it is no good saying 'but Trump', why should I care what Trump does if I know the standards set for Biden arent my standards.

I've only posted twice 😁

I haven't counted your posts but it's more than two.

Arto1s Thu 05-Dec-24 00:00:45

Sorry Allira I should not have singled you out. It was not intended as being personal to you. I really meant that I was tired of responding to various comments on here. I am a Republican and so therefore voted for Trump. He is not my favourite, and I wish someone else had been running on the Republican ticket, but I do want a curb putting on illegal immigration, and I do want taxes on tips to be stopped, and I do want Sanctuary cities to go away. Much more, but I really am finished with this particular Forum now.

Gundy Thu 05-Dec-24 00:12:31

Trump of all people should not be opening his mouth after all the pardons he dished out to his criminal friends four years ago - and HE WILL BE PARDONING HIMSELF once he takes office.

The inexperienced and unqualified people he’s nominating as Cabinet members are a mirror reflection of himself. Total mental buffoonery. We are the laughingstock of the world. The next four years will be a real crap shoot.

NotSpaghetti Thu 05-Dec-24 00:13:15

Arto1s - there are plenty of Republicans who didn't vote for Trump you know.

And some of us here on Gransnet have lived in America, raised families there and many have family still living there.

Please don't assume we are all the same.

Wyllow3 Thu 05-Dec-24 00:30:24

I've noted the appointments, Gundy - jobs for mates and some quite shocking.

Biden is morally wrong to pardon his son. I see the pardon. Ru a to December 2024, which raises the question is there more not yet publicised.

Trump is morally wrong.

I’m afraid keeepingquiet is correct and that Musk is a malign force here - in fact he’s a bit Bond Villain with world wide negative disruptive influences

The antics of Musk, the obscenely richest man in the world, and his puppet Donald Trump make me think of the 1960's film "Dr Strangelove" mixed with all the far-fetched bits of every Bond film.

Does Musk have some weird World Domination agenda? I think so - he's proved himself temperamental and erratic enough. All he needs now is a white Persian cat with a diamond collar.......

Maremia Thu 05-Dec-24 08:30:56

Since when did President Elect Trump play by the Marquess of Queensberry rules? Biden is using his waning power to protect his son from vile vengeance. Wouldn't you do the same?

Maremia Thu 05-Dec-24 08:31:58

It will be some firework display when Trump and Musk fall out.
