Nearly £200,000 for pensioners in poverty…
I’m sure some of you will find a negative even in that…🤓

A quiet word of support for BBC Radio 4's whose Christmas Appeal has raised over 9 million pounds in the last 2 years alone. It gives support for the homeless across the UK.

Well that sounds like a real challenge.

Obviously the public thought it was a worthy challenge or they would not have donated. 🍋🍋🍋

I bet his stickles were freezing, too!

eazybee Sun 08-Dec-24 12:40:22

Patrick Christys did a swim in Freezing Stickle Tarn as he promised if GB News raised money for Friends of the Elderly; £ 260,000 was raised.

theworriedwell Sun 08-Dec-24 12:01:17

What has he done to raise the money? If he's done some marathons or organised some big event well done. If he's just said I want your money for this charity I support big deal. I give to the charities I support.

I don't know who he is so no idea what he's actually done.

Agree JudyBloom, I’ve enjoyed the Christian Advent message and look forward to it each morning. Gives us hope in a turbulent world.

JudyBloom Fri 06-Dec-24 11:23:51

Well done GB News and I must also mention their Christian Advent messages from all over the country each morning since the beginning of Advent. Generous, fair and promoting the Christian message.

I have no idea who Patrick Christy is and have never watched GB news but I applaud anybody who raises money for charity. But do “stunts” raise more money than regular appeals? They put me off!

I think maybe younger people give more to stunts. They don’t put me off though!

Primrose53 Thu 05-Dec-24 19:33:47

I am not really religious but the daily advent calendar messages on GB News are totally uplifting. There was a young clergyman on tonight and his message really touched me.

I am the person who looked up the charity and who looked to see if it was actually a GB News initiative.

I am a big fan of charities and have worked in and with several...
I used to have funds to distribute on behalf of the Vicar's Relief Fund which was a truly amazing charity promising to turn requests round in just a couple of days. I know they operate a bit differently now but they are still one of my favourites.

I like to know who is doing what. The charity benefiting from this fantastic fundraising was not one I knew.
I don't generally watch this news channel (though i have on occasion) so the presenter was also unknown to me.

My purpose for posting was to add clarification to the thread. GB news viewers raise money which was the title of the thread. This made me (incorrectly) assume it was a bit like the BBC Children in Need. Obviously it's not.

I honestly thought I was just adding detail.
The first post didn't really tell me much.

I don't think most of us on here are trying to turn the fundraising into a negative - that is way off the mark.

I am really enjoying listening to the daily advent message read out by ministers on GB News. It is so refreshing. I wish more people would tune in, instead of spreading their negativity.

I come across some very vocal criticism of GB News in real life. It's almost laughable because the ones who almost spit the words GB News watched it in its first week and dismissed it. Just the names of some presenters makes them think they 'know' the entire output.

It's my choice of channel now in the early morning if I'm up and about. The adverts get on my nerves but not as much as BBC breakfast does. The only time I catch up with the BBC now is in the early evening and that's so I also see any local news. I flick through Sky and other channels if we are around. Any presenters that bothered me have now left GB News.

Well done Patrick Christys. He gets a bit over exited at times but he certainly isn't just talk. He seems very genuine.

GBnews is doing a daily series of short spiritual advent talks. I came across it by accident today. A moment of peace

I don't see any criticism of GB News. However, it's not unreasonable to ask how the money will actually be spent. One only has to think of Captain Tom.

Of course there is criticism there is questioning of their integrity…🙄

I think there's a strange eagerness to suggest criticism of GB itself for this connection with the newsreader and charity (even in the O/P

when it isnt there!

Are you serious? There is always criticism of GB news….🤦‍♀️🙄
The presenters are part of GB news, I get absolutely fed up with the criticism of GB News Usually by people who have never even watched it..

Fair enough if you're fed up, but don't see criticism when it's not there.

Sometimes it isn’t just the Labour Party and lefties who try to help people. Quite often in my experience.

Has anybody argued with that on this thread?

Wyllow3 Wed 04-Dec-24 13:02:15

I'm not trying to play you on this one Shinamae genuinely cant see it.

Wyllow3 Wed 04-Dec-24 13:00:48

Where?

I do see one post which hints at virtue signalling, but no direct criticism of GB news for hosting this initiative,

indeed praise. Yes, what people have said about checking the charity out, but thats hardly criticism GB news per se.

Shinamae Wed 04-Dec-24 12:55:21

Yes, of course there is criticism of GB news Shinamae in some threads on GN, but not on this thread, which I took to be what we were discussing?

Not on this thread????? 😂😂

Nothing wrong with questioning the integrity of a cause you may donate to.
It would be bit silly to go in blind.
