Has anyone signed the petition regarding him receiving a knighthood?
I personally don’t think he’s done much for making the streets of London safer
Knife crime up, shop lifting, scooter/ bike crime up- all under his watch. May be wrong but what good has he done?

I agree with vegansrock .There are several people in the HoL that do not/should not be there.
Gavin Williamson (for instance) knighted for all the mess he made and leaked/lied about.
Any number of others.

A knighthood is not the same as a peerage. Peers are Lords and go to the House of Lords. Knights are known as Sir whatever and do not go the House of Lords.

Probably because nobody is interested.

London Mayoral election

Sadiq Khan - 1,088, 225 votes
Susan Hall - 812,397 votes

Susan Hall was very much interested in winning the Mayoral election and attracted a large number of votes.

Oh not many voted for him I see

Khan was voted in three times to do a very senior job in public life. Like or him or not, some people obviously thought he would be the best person for the job, which is a lot more than some of the people who have been knighted over the last few years.

If males are Knighted does that mean that Females are Dammed?

I imagine only your God can answer that Granny23 smile

Interestingly (or not) although the wife of a Knight can use the courtesy title of "Lady", the husband of of a Dame remains Mr. Perhaps, in the society of extremist individualism (my opinion is my truth, etc) perhaps it is time the "Lady" was dropped.

Ssshhhh …. Top secret but did anybody know Khan’s father was a bus driver? 🤣🤣🤣

Kalm Mon 09-Dec-24 10:33:52

Khan should get a knighthood for saying pleasing things to please the audience. If he is in mosque he tells people what they want hear about world peace, if he is in a liberal pride march he talks equality and loves to talk to corporate business to consolidate the London's banking position. Reminds of the fantastic TV drama "the boys from the blackstuff",,,,,gizza job I can do that.....
All you need to do these days to become a leader is swallow a corporate dictionary and use the words to take the issue further and ensure it is on the line of sight to achieve a win/win situation without being cognisant what the words mean.....

Wyllow3 Mon 09-Dec-24 10:36:02

Why is that so apparently funny?

Yes, Khan was the fifth of eight children, seven of whom were boys. In London, Amanullah worked as a bus driver and Sehrun as a seamstress. Khan and his siblings grew up in a three-bedroom council flat on the Henry Prince Estate in Earlsfield.

Snobbery in full flow on here again !! I despair !!!

I also can't think why he should be knighted. But then, the likes of ex-cricketer Ian Botham and underwear manufacturer Michelle Mone were handed seats in The Lords and for what I know not.

Ian Botham raised millions for charity through sponsored walks all over the country.

A knighthood would have done fine. What qualification does he have for being a legislator?

Nvella Mon 09-Dec-24 13:29:04

I live in London and have voted for him each time he has stood - as have all my friends. I think he is a very good mayor and deserves a knighthood a lot more than sone people - shall we look at Michelle Mone for starters?

What exactly do you mean by that remark?

eazybee Mon 09-Dec-24 14:09:37

I believe Sue Gray is being offered a peerage.
I find thst more disturbing.

that

It's yet more speculation. Googling it, I find that each newspaper (the usual suspects is using phrases like

"planning to"
"may be in line for"

Welcome to Mondays' edition of 'find something speculative to knock Starmer with".

I think he works hard for London and I wouldn’t begrudge him a knighthood.

Zumba369 Mon 09-Dec-24 19:27:08

Charlotte Owen, a former aide to Boris Johnson, was made the youngest ever life peer in the House of Lords, despite criticism over her lack of professional experience. The 30-year-old became Baroness Owen of Alderley Edge!

Good to have another Muslim on board. HoL is rather Anglican heavy with sniggering bishops.

Freya5 Totally agree! He has done untold damage to London and it has not been without dark repercussions for the country.

I came up against a paywall.

The man is a self serving racist disgrace who has overseen London turning into a dump, but looking at the majority of The House of Lords one wonders how many actually deserve their places, or indeed other than the checks and balances they put on the Commons one wonders at their function and place today.
