I honestly don't know why people bother. An MP sends a hand-written card (albeit photocopied) and is criticised for his handwriting. If he had sent a printed one saying 'Merry Christmas from X and all at the LP' he would have been criticised for 'not bothering' to write it himself. I suspect that it's just a matter of time before someone starts to moan about the cost of postage, or the impact on the planet of sending cards in the first place, whilst others complain that the custom of sending card is dying out as people 'can't be bothered' to write them.
I've seen this sort of thing happen with my daughter, who is Dyslexic, (although I see no signs of Dyslexia in the photo). If she goes to the effort of put things in writing, often the comments are about the spelling or sentence structure, and not about the content or the fact that she 'bothered' to do it. Is it any wonder that people get fed up and stop doing things? They are damned if they do, and damned if they don't.
Also, many people's handwriting is not as good as it used to be, as they spend 99% of the time on a keyboard. Mine used to be ok, but now it's awful, as I hand write very little - even for shopping lists I often use the Notes app on my phone.
Do people still have secretaries? Personal assistants, yes - but they don't check for capitalisation in Christmas cards
. Aren't secretaries who type up letters etc a thing of the past now that people have computers and can do their own admin? And anyway, did secretaries ever proofread Christmas cards? I know I lost access to secretarial services in my work back in the 90s, and the admin they used to do was just added to my workload. I think that's pretty usual.
