20 years. Good

Sentencing continuing now for others.

Chocolatelovinggran Thu 19-Dec-24 13:07:11

Well done that judge. The men who have been hiding behind masks are now exposed and all of their families, friends, neighbours and colleagues will see them as they are.

That poor, poor woman didn’t know she was being assaulted & raped, yet there is a young girl “on only fans” having sex with a hundred guys for money & likes She’s now aiming for a thousand.. absolutely disgusting 😩 topic is on mums net & YouTube

Bea65 Thu 19-Dec-24 13:42:11

Bravo Gisele .. no years would be long enough for these rapists and pleased that Sky read out ALL the men involved so globally they are shamed👋

Oldbat1 Thu 19-Dec-24 17:05:52

Not long enough sentences were given to the other 50 men. Meanwhile 20 other rapists still not accounted for. I was so impressed at how she conducted herself. I hope she has support going forward.

MissInterpreted Thu 19-Dec-24 17:07:50

Not only support for her, but also for her family. They have clearly suffered too as a result of this ordeal.

Maremia Thu 19-Dec-24 17:17:29

Pelicot is now being looked at again, in connection to two cold cases.

BlueBelle Thu 19-Dec-24 17:28:05

I believe she’s moved and changed her name so hopefully she it all dies down she will get some peace

Nowhere near enough IMO! And I hope he has an extremely unpleasant time serving his sentence.

I very much doubt it if this is a snapshot of the French male psyche.

A lot of them got on average 2 years less than the prosecutors had requested angry

I wonder who is paying for all their defence lawyers?

Defences included -

"I didn't know what consent was"

"It was New Year's Eve and I didn't have anything else to do"

The whole nasty business, from start to finish, beggars belief. Except I doubt it will ever be finished for Gisele Pelicot.

The suggestion is their sentences were lower to dissuade them from appealing and putting Gisele through further stress. They have 10 days to appeal. Pelicot's solicitor says he's considering it. He possibly thought that by pleading guilty, implicating the others etc, that he would get a lighter sentence.
Legal aid is available in France as is early release under certain circumstances.

Ah, thanks OldFrill, that makes sense of the sentencing decisions.

I assumed there was some sort of legal aid system in place.

I think deep down I'm of the opinion that they should just lock them all up and chuck away the keys, but I do realise that's wishful thinking!

News report over fifty men were within a 30 mile radius of the home, thats lot of perverts in such an area. Its scary. Who would you trust?
She is a very brave woman and has a strong family unit supporting her, hope the rest of her life is good, he has nothing and no one as he deserves.

Iam64 Fri 20-Dec-24 08:55:59

We will be wise not to put this abhorrent behaviour down to the culture in France. It’s yet another example of the disdain with which many men have for women. Before anyone reminds me there are more good men than bad, yes I know. I was married to one and have lovely men in my family and friendship group. Yet, here we have 50 men living in fairly close proximity, prepared to rape an unconscious woman.

Sparklefizz Fri 20-Dec-24 08:59:59

I hear that he is appealing against his sentence and so are some of the other rapists!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unbelievable.

Smileless2012 Fri 20-Dec-24 09:01:19

Two are appealing their convictions and they may not be the only ones. If there's any justice, they shouldn't be allowed too and put this poor woman through another hearing.

That there were so many rapists must mean there is something wrong with the culture of belief . Was it lack of moral education in French homes ands schools.

These people are everywhere.
They live next to us, they are members of people's families they are the fathers, uncles, grandfather's, adult children we love and respect.

Surely that is what is so shocking about this whole terrible case. Gisele could have been us, our daughters or our friend.

This is not a FRENCH thing.

Absolutely Notspaghetti.

Sorry Iam I think you posted as I was typing.
Cross-posted.

As I have posted on the parallel thread, one man stands out for doing the right thing, namely the supermarket security guard who exposed this terrible man by calling the police when he found him " upskirting" in the store.
He might, perhaps, have simply remonstrated with M.Pelicot and banned him from the place , but he followed the process through and revealed a set of crimes which shocked the country.
I hope that he feels proud ( if shell shocked) with his part in this horrible affair.

Agree, absolutely.

Good for him in recognising how abhorrent the original offence was and following it through.

Hopefully, his actions will demonstrate to others that any sexual offence, however "trivial" it may seem should be treated with the utmost seriousness. And save a woman from violence and degradation - or worse.

Totally agree with this post. Unfortunately, sex offenders look just like the rest of us. If only they had two horns on their forehead and a tail

Bea65 Fri 20-Dec-24 17:17:08

CNN have done a deep dive into the websites that Gisele’s husband was using - Coco was one of a few and the men who were responding queried why did they have to wait on an a ‘rape’ appt .. he said after he drugged her it could take up to 4hrs until she (Gisele) was in a deep sleep… honestly it pains my heart that she suffered from 2011

some of the evil men commented on how they would like to do it their wives…
If it wasn’t for the alert action of the security guard who caught HIM up skirting- his laptop and file folder called ABUSE, would never have been investigated.. 😢

NotSpaghetti Fri 20-Dec-24 17:36:51

Years ago when I worked with ex-offenders and helped with their rehabilitation in the community the sex offenders were (almost) universally kind, thoughtful and helpful. They tended to have great social skills.

They will undoubtedly appear to be good neighbours and co-workers. They will be the sort of people you will go to in an emergency. I honestly don't think you can tell who the sex offenders actually are.
Unfortunately, as Iam says: ^Unfortunately, sex offenders look just like the rest of us.
