Sir Sadiq Khan! For services to what, exactly?

I don't live in London and don't really support the honours system. But I do admire Sadiq Khan for being brave enough to put the health of children before the convenience of car drivers.

I can’t understand why people get an honour for doing their job, and getting paid for it.

I don’t understand why Jacob Rees Mogg and Gavin Williamson got knighthoods.

Why not if you can get knighted for riding a bike?

There are many more deserving people who aren’t recognised but probably don’t expect or want to be.

I suppose it is one up from having a title because of who your parents are.

The New Year's Honour's List has Sadiq Khan being given a knighthood. I am sure that will sit well with the families of children killed as a result of London knife crime, spiralling on his watch.
Stephen Fry and Gareth Southgate also receive knighthoods.
There are some awards for the Post Office campaigners too and these are the people I like to see recognised although I wouldn't be upset to see the Honour's Lists being abolished altogether.

I think children getting killed as a result of knife crime has more to do with Tory cuts to policing than it has to do with the Mayor.

children is more to do with gang culture and the responsibility for the killings lies with the perpetrators. Khan is in charge of investing money into the Met. In Feb this year he said it would be £1.148 bn . Lot of good that did. Most of it on the palestinian lot I would say. He's also defended Islamic extremists.
That to me should be a no no for what he's been given. Disgusted.

Hopefully no more children are dying because of pollution in London so that is good news. Children at primary school aren't going hungry as he found the money to feed them all, more good news. Well done Sadiq.

Just the knife crime then.

OH bil got a gong for doing his civil servant job that loads of people do. Whole things a joke and needs scrapped. He did an interview in the local paper giving it the goodness I'm shocked, look at me, just a boy from a council house etc!!.

I'd rather see honours given to people the general public vote for or stop the whole thing do we need all these sirs and dames What do they ever give back for the title Spend the money saved on the black hole if there really is one

That will be the Sadiq Khan who is ferried around in a top of the range bullet proof Range Rover provided free of charge to him? The one who despite very strong and widespread local opposition insisted that the Silvertown Crossing should go ahead even though it will bring even more traffic to the access road it will share with the approach to the Blackwall Tunnel? Maybe the children of that area don't deserve their health to be protected. The ULEZ zone doesn't prohibit polluting vehicles, it says they can drive through providing they pay £12.50 per day for the privilege. If you can afford the charge then Sadiq doesn't mind your pollution.

The whole Honours thing is an absolute joke and should be scrapped. Spend 40 years seeing children safely across the road in all weathers and you might just get the very lowest award. Have a lovely life as a well paid entertainer and you qualify to be a Sir or Dame. Who was the last sewerage worker to be honoured for services to sanitation?

There are frequent demonstrations or other events in central London on whole numbers of issues - and the Police have to manage them all, whether it's the far right by the Cenotaph or the pro-palestinian marches or climate change activists or peaceful vigils or the Notting Hill Carnival.

And we've had, in the Metropolitan Police force, a rapist and murderer, a whole group of misogynist/racists "outed" not so long ago. A heck of a lot to manage, and I'm not surprised he's been voted back in

Khan has allowed and even encouraged London to become overrun. Hence, the crime! Yes, he is most definitely to blame.

I don’t feel strongly about Khan, but was pleased to see the knighthood for Gareth Southgate - and equally pleased that a certain other former footballer will not be able to call himself Sir.

BTW he gets more vile racial abuse/ death threats to his family etc -than any other politician apart from Diane Abbott this is the reason he has security as does every single cabinet minister and former Prime Ministers.

Oh yes, those farmers, what a lot they are.
Clogging up the streets with their tractors, preventing ordinary folk from getting to the supermarket to buy their food which miraculously appears on the shelves.

I was happy to see Gareth Southgate and Stephen Fry get their awards, and do think that Sadiq Khan deserves his; he does a great deal for London, some of it controversial of course, but unless we want London to be a grid locked, stinking, fume clogged city, some of his measures are necessary.

We send a minimum of two loaded vans into London five days a week, 50 weeks a year.

I can assure you that anywhere within the M25 (all of which now covered by ULEZ) is invariably grid locked . Central London roads are still stationary most of the day, and still extremely fume clogged.

Sir Khan hasn’t banned polluting vehicles, just put the charges up for them.
