Chief reporter Daniel Boffey hits the nail right on the head!

FGT The Free Speech Union (including Tony Young) is an “interesting” organisation, to say the least.

One only needs to do a bit of research to find its stated aims appear disingenuous.

OK, it’s called the “Free Speech Union” but, let’s face it, I can call myself Twiggy … it doesn’t make me a supermodel.

Anyway, in the spirit of free speech, if you want to believe such stuff, that’s your choice. I won’t patronise you by telling you to ‘open your eyes’ - you believe whatever you want my dear!

I feel Elon Musk’s interference in Uk politics to be very dangerous. He apparently tweeted 40 times in 24 hours about the UK government and the grooming gangs, even calling for the King to disband parliament. His comments about Keir Starmer and others could well led to violent acts against them.
This information I have gained from the not very keen on the Labour Government and Starmer, Daily Mail.

Lead, not led!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 04-Jan-25 13:30:06

Okay. Point taken.

This any better:

Or this acceptable from The Spectator?

Perhaps … The Guardian only? 😁

Wyllow3 Sat 04-Jan-25 13:30:35

Well if people are prepared to back an organisation that allows anti semitic posts and child grooming posts and suicide encouraging posts they are welcome to it but not in my book.

Wyllow3 Sat 04-Jan-25 13:32:37

What problems do you have with the latest rulings of the Online Safety Act, FGT?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 04-Jan-25 13:35:45

Someone posted (can’t remember who? … pascal?) that Elon Musk is neurodivergent. He focuses on a subject and it thrills him for a while. Maybe obsesses? Then he moves on.

However in my opinion that doesn’t make his super intelligent thought processes WRONG does it? Maybe he’s pointing out some of the more obvious holes in our politicians decision making.

Not The King though dissolving parliament! 🤣

GrannyGravy13 Sat 04-Jan-25 13:41:15

Elon Musk has said he has Asperger’s Syndrome, which probably causes him to see things in black and white, whilst being unable to see the colours/nuances between the two.

foxie48 Sat 04-Jan-25 14:19:24

There's a huge difference between free speech and hate speech. If people can't tell the difference tbh it's worrying and is exactly why we need laws. I don't care if EM is neuro divergent or not, it doesn't excuse his behaviour although it might explain it to some degree.

Wyllow3 Sat 04-Jan-25 14:26:17

Maybe it explains some of his behaviour in the US - just took a quick look -

"Musk calls some Trump supporters ‘contemptible fools,’ escalating tension with MAGA hardliners"

"Steve Bannon joins MAGA war against Elon Musk"

short video

edition.cnn.com/2024/12/27/politics/video/elon-musk-laura-loomer-foreign-workers-visa-digvid-src

tensions, if he continues like this, could really disrupt.

M0nica Sat 04-Jan-25 14:33:24

Neurodivergence is never an excuse. I speak as someone who is neuro-divergent and I have never used it as an excuse.

You learn to live round it and understand it and learn how to avoid most of the tank traps.

Elon Musk is a selfish self centred man who like many an extremely wealthy person, thinks he can buy whatever he wants, say whatever he wants, and walk over anyone who he des not like or disagrees with.

OK his neuro-divergence means he is all over Trump, like a rash, at the moment, but if he wasn't neuro divergent, he would still be backing Trump to the hilt, agreeing with everything he says and fawning round him like a puppy round a new owner. Simply because he agrees with him and can see what an advanagte to him and his businesses beng persona grata with Trump will be.

Gaslighting and lying to voters is the hallmark of many public institutions including politicians, the police, the NHS , the civil service etc . It seems Trump is our only hope to prevent Starmer and his socialist pals from killing off free speech in this parliament . Britons must stand up for this basic right against the thought police terrorising the people . NCHS should be banned forthwith. Mrs May should hang her head in shame. She was pretty useless looking back. A ditherer and appeaser. Weak.

grin grin grin grin grin grin

I am happy that we have a PM that is not a convicted felon, and very happy to not live in a country where a President is able to be pardoned/not convicted of any crime.

Also delighted to be living in a country where I wasn't worried about school shootings.......

Musk is a malicious and very weird man, maybe he should take care of his own dysfunctional family and leave the politics of running a foreign country to the grown ups

FGT what on earth are you talking about?

Do you really believe what you’re saying - or are you just trying to wind people up?

In a way, I actually hope it’s the latter because I feel sad that anyone on GN may have gone completely down such a rabbit hole.

I’m beginning to believe many posters are simply conspiracy theorists. It’s on this thread and the nonsense comments on the thread calling for a national inquiry into grooming gangs.

The article posted was pure conspiracy theory - the Free Speech Union (Toby Young) is a right wing organisation masquerading as "objective".

Regards Toby Young, the extreme right wing commentator: I haven't; noticed any of the critics of the New Years Honours List question his elevation. Plenty of criticism of Sadiq Khan though. Funny that

Galaxy Sat 04-Jan-25 14:53:35

It's funny though isnt it but the free speech union has been a support to gender critical feminists, almost as of life is very complex and speech even more so.

Galaxy Sat 04-Jan-25 14:54:04

As if that should say.

My reflection Nandalot is that he is totally and dangerously disingenuous.

I'll say why - he has not tweeted nor focused on grooming gangs in his very own country at all. If he cared as claimed this the very least we would expect.

Instead, what has he just done? Yup a posh night out December 20th 2024 with Ghislaine Maxwell convinced of convicts her of recruiting and trafficking teenagers in a "pyramid of abuse".

Galaxy Sat 04-Jan-25 15:11:55

As I have just said on the other thread do you mean like Mandelsons association with Epstein which was excused and explained.

Galaxy Sat 04-Jan-25 15:14:20

Hasnt she been in prison since 2021.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 04-Jan-25 15:15:09

Wyllow3 Ghislaine Maxwell is in prison, I think you are mistaken regarding the night out on 24/12/2024…

I assume that you are against Peter Mandelson being given the job as U.K. Ambassador to USA due to his association with Jeffrey Epstein?

GrannyGravy13 Sat 04-Jan-25 15:16:00

Oops Galaxy crossed posts.

Wyllow3 Sat 04-Jan-25 15:25:46

Yes, apologies, and thanks for correction, the photo is genuine but was taken earlier 2014.

I still stand by my comments

So before anyone knew anything, unlike mandelsons association, mandelson who was appointed US ambassador by the labour party, which I was furious about. There needs to be consistency otherwise well I for one just ignore it as I dont believe it reflects any concern for women and girls from the 'left'.

"He wants images like these to die. We can't let that happen."

I hope you feel the same about the images of Peter Mandelson and Jeffrey Epstein.
