Also Kalms I dislike your use of ‘uneducated’ and the fact you say that ‘anyone however unqualified can post anything is a recipe for disaster.’To my mind there’s too much of the feeling superior and looking down from their dizzy heights by posters on forums and SM platforms as it is.There have also been posters who suggest that voters should have IQ tests. You either believe as I do that every man and woman has a vote who’s entitled to one and that they should also have an equal right to an opinion on SM unless they post something which is actually criminal, truly racist and so on.

👏👏👏👏👏

An equal right to an opinion can only exist when the evidence being presented is based on fact. The legal process uses two norms "beyond reasonable doubt" and "on the basis of probability or likelihood as presented". The 12 good men and women of a crown court jury need only to meet basic criteria. So my vote cannot be equivalent to someone whose just had 10 pints and is inebriated.
So I maintain when voting particularly on issues which affect the nation, you need understand what you are voting for, which means you are relying on the candidate to be truthful and honest and factual. I have not seen any evidence of this in the Tory party or any of its candidates over the last 14 years. The US voters have just elected a person who is a convicted felon and the associates are just as bad. Hitler won an election. The thinking middle must have been absent.

What is worse when people like Musk interfere they are plain wrong, his Dad was trying to make out Nelson Mandela was comparable to Ghastly Yaxley.....Clearly an incorrect opinion ( based on fact) that should not be aired on any platform.
Mandela made SA a successful place by freeing the indigenous people.
I do agree the middle ground needs conviction, but the middle ground institutions have been hijacked. The tories are against the ECHR, ICC, the UNSC, muslim orgs, NHS, BBC, Water, supporting pro Zionists, public inquiry reforms not acted upon as is topical.....

We are not in a court of law when voting.

Yes, we may listen to opinions, read manifestos and then decide but many voters make their decision tribally and that does not have anything to do with IQ. Nor should anyone be denied the franchise on grounds of IQ either.

confused
Are you saying everyone should have to take a breathalyser test before voting? What about a drugs test?

From the Guardian today, more trouble for Farage

'A dozen Reform UK councillors have given notice of their intention to resign en masse in protest at Nigel Farage’s leadership.

The resignations could come as early as Friday evening and will add to pressure on the Reform leader after Elon Musk said he was “not up to the job”. They are timed to overshadow the party’s south-east conference this weekend.

The councillors alleged the party was being run in an “autocratic manner” and accused Farage of “disloyalty” to long-term members. There are splits within the party over the jailed far-right activist Tommy Robinson, who is supported by Musk.'

Out of the frying pan into the fire?

It might in fact be a good thing as it could mean the end of Reform.

MaizieD Fri 10-Jan-25 22:39:50

This from the Guardian article might give a clue as to why some Reform councillors are leaving:

Reform’s 2024 London mayoral candidate, Howard Cox, left the party on Thursday, claiming he had been told to “keep clear” of Robinson or else he would be expelled.

Is Reform not racist enough for them?

I think Farage is realising that, now that he has finally become an MP, there’s a certain amount of responsibility attached to it and he can’t just openly support far right people and organisations. But that’s where his popularity stems from. What a dilemma. Couldn’t happen to a nicer chap
grin

Wyllow3 Fri 10-Jan-25 23:41:52

Well I think he knew which is why he wouldn't fall in with Musk. I don't think Musk understands we don't have the real equivalent of MAGA.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 11-Jan-25 08:55:14

Anyone know why Farage is demanding that Shemima Begum be brought back to the U.K.?

It doesn’t make any sense, unless you factor in that Trump suggested it.

Jeanathome Sat 11-Jan-25 09:02:11

If it wasn't so terribly sad and worrying this pathetic squaring up to each other would be comical.

It was Trump's terror chief, Gorka, who wants all IS members to be allowed home.

LizzieDrip Sat 11-Jan-25 09:08:49

I think Farage is doing / saying whatever Trump wants. He’s happy to be Trump’s boot-licking puppet.

Trump says ‘Nigel, JUMP’; Nigel says ‘How high?’

AGAA4 Sat 11-Jan-25 09:09:21

Musk on the other hand says there will be mass murder across Europe if ISIS members are allowed back.

LizzieDrip Sat 11-Jan-25 09:24:37

Yes AGAA4, there appears to be a difference of opinion emerging between Musk and Trump’s team. Mm, interesting!

And, of course, Trump’s new tech friend is Zuckerberg, who has visited Mar a Lago and is doing Trump’s bidding regarding the removal of moderators.

Zuckerberg’s platforms reach millions more people than Musk’s, so arguably the former is more important to Trump than the latter.

Perhaps Zuckerberg will now become Nige’s bessie mate too. Where does all this leave poor ElonđŸ˜±

Mm, very interesting indeed!

Oreo Sat 11-Jan-25 09:31:35

I think it’s unsustainable for a country like Syria to continue to house, feed and monitor everyone like Begum, foreign nationals in the camps.Society there is fragmented, different groups at each others throats, one group in power in part of the country only and may be out of power there the next day.
Taking away citizenship just made it somebody else’s problem.

Any news about what is happening with Reform this weekend following a whole week of difficulties?

“the departures of the 10 councillors – who between them hold more than a dozen local authority positions at different levels – would mark the loss of a significant chunk of the party’s existing local authority representatives.”

However - “Reform UK has been facing a schism over its approach to Robinson’s supporters after Richard Tice, the deputy leader of Reform, said last year that the party “want nothing to do with” Robinson “and all of that lot”.

However, in a sign that Farage may be calibrating his position to please Musk, he told GB News this week that he did “question” why Robinson was in prison.

Well, if you cosy-up to the world's richest man who appears to be rather drunk with the power that Trump has now invested in him - not to mention the adulation of millions of admiring males (and females!) who are having a bromance with him, at least in their heads - then you will lose your autonomy if you don't do has he says and ultimately become his puppet!

So now Musk's outbursts have had their desired effect and caused a divide within Reform - are we to look forward (in the literal sense) to a time when a reformed Reform will campaign for Tommy's release (with or without Nigel); a welcome into the bosom of the Reform party and, ultimately fulfil father Errol's prediction of becoming first its leader before finally catapulting it to power and becoming Prime Minister?

Is this how father and son Musk thinks it will happen?

Musk has a lot of support here in the UK it seems - and on GN - and there's an awful lot of disgruntled people who are disillusioned with the two-party system, anything's possible.

It's really a question of whether the 'elite establishment' that hold power in the UK will be behind this. The money's nice, but it's fairly obvious that both Musk and Robinson are loose canons, and that could interfere with market stability, and we've already seen what happened when that other loose cannon, Truss, let rip.

Richard Tice, the deputy leader of Reform, said last year that the party “want nothing to do with” Robinson “and all of that lot”.

... here's "that lot"

There's a few women among them, but they mostly appear to be a group of very angry young men, chanting in a similar manner to 'the lads' at a football match, "Ingerland, Ingerland". But, of course, they are angry.

Yes, this is a deliberately provocative and subjective post.

... just like Musk's.
