I’ve started this thread because for some unfathomable reason the one discussing the latest agreement has disappeared.

An important subject for all concerned, and too important to ignore.

So as you were folks.

Not so far from the OP it’s about hope for peace and independence for all in Israel and Palestine. Something anyone with any humanity Woukd wish for.
Clearly from this thread alone there is little chance with so little compassion for others.
I am just Listening to Netanyahu live from Jerusalem, speaking about it being just a temporary ceasefire in order to get the hostages back but making it clear that Trump has backed their objectives and he will give Israel all the weapons needed to go back into Gaza to finish the job. Goodbye any hopes of a two state solution. Just more war.
They are increasing their forces who will not leave Gaza as expected and says the entire world is impressed with Israel’s accomplishments.
I am not so sure about that. He is a dangerous man with dangerous intentions.

Well of course that was going to happen.. Israel will not stop until it has annihilated Gaza and annexed it's land.. and once Trump is in power it will not be held to account for this genocide

But the iron dome takes out anything from Hamas doing much harm. Safe rooms help the public too.
None of that in Gaza.

Because Hamas chose tunnels to protect them over and above anything to protect the Palestinians in Gaza.

I agree.

If I had to be there, I know where I would rather be gg and it wouldn’t be a roughly dug tunnel under bombed buildings in Gaza,

GrannyGravy13 Sat 18-Jan-25 19:19:17

I have compassion for all innocents, I do not have an iota of compassion for Hamas and/or their sympathisers.

I assume you haven’t seen footage of what is basically an underground world?

Farzanah Sat 18-Jan-25 19:25:12

We have seen very little footage of anything because international journalists haven’t been allowed into Gaza - why not, and Palestinian journalist, over 200, have been killed, 3ven targeted?

Farzanah Sat 18-Jan-25 19:28:58

Oh! One memorable footage I did see was posted by IDF soldiers on Tik Tok and widely circulated destroying Palestinian homes and possessions and dressing in Palestinian women’s underwear!

silverlining48 Sat 18-Jan-25 19:29:37

The palistinians have littke choice in who governs them. . Hamas was elected in 2006 and there hasn’t been another election since. I dont t know why. I can check but my head hurts so I shall close down now.

Anniebach Sat 18-Jan-25 19:37:43

International journalists not allowed in Gaza yet we seen so many videos, mostly of children, we are told alleged number of dead, mostly women and children, where are the men ?

pascal30 Sat 18-Jan-25 19:39:56

46,600 Palestinians have died

224 humanitarian aid workers have died
166 journalists have died
120 academics have died

1,706 Israelis have died

Anniebach Sat 18-Jan-25 19:43:19

According to Hamas

Whitewavemark2 Sat 18-Jan-25 19:48:06

Anniebach

According to Hamas

The Israelis are not challenging the figures nor are aid agencies, the UN and other interested parties.

Lily Ebert was asked if she feared there would be another Holocaust, she replied ‘there is now’

I know Anniebach her book should be compulsory reading in all schools.

Anniebach Sat 18-Jan-25 20:10:01

It should GrannyGravy , she feared it would happen again
if people ignored much now as in the 30’s

It’s not a war because only one side has the weapons.

But the iron dome takes out anything from Hamas doing much harm. Safe rooms help the public too.

confused so which statement is true?

I don't think there is anyone on here who would not wish for a peaceful settlement. However, most of us are old enough and know about the history of hundreds, if not thousands, of years to know that is unlikely in the long-term sadly.

Those tunnels are not roughly built.

Allira Sat 18-Jan-25 20:28:14

Sorry, that should read as:

Allira Sat 18-Jan-25 20:30:49

Clearly from this thread alone there is little chance with so little compassion for others.

Most of us have compassion for all those involved except for the perpetrators on both sides.

maddyone Sat 18-Jan-25 21:26:13

How much do you think Jewish children might be affected by this? Their great grandparents were murdered by the Nazis, their grandparents survived by hiding in forests, or hidden by noble people who risked death by hiding them, or they survived the concentration camps (have you ever visited one?) These grandparents went to Israel and forced the world to listen to them and they built the democratic state of Israel from scratch. Their parents live under constant attack from the countries around them and so they built the iron dome and safe rooms (which didn’t keep the people safe at all on 07/10/23) The children of Israel grow up knowing that everyone around them hates them and wishes them dead, just like the Nazis did.

That’s how the Israeli children grow up.

maddyone Sat 18-Jan-25 21:29:24

We in the west have compassion for all the innocents but no compassion for the perpetrators.
But Oreo is right, liberal western values are meaningless in this situation. Personally I don’t think this will be the end, but we can hope at least.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 18-Jan-25 21:32:47

This is not a competition, over which children suffer the most.

Every child deserves a happy, stable childhood.

But I refuse to take sides where children are concerned.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 18-Jan-25 21:34:08

Israel faced an impossible choice: destroy Hamas or rescue the hostages.

Anniebach Sat 18-Jan-25 21:40:19

Maddy thank you, thank you for expressing the truth so eloquently
