I’ve started this thread because for some unfathomable reason the one discussing the latest agreement has disappeared.

An important subject for all concerned, and too important to ignore.

So as you were folks.

Thank you for your persistence Annie.

Anniebach Sat 18-Jan-25 21:46:28

Galaxy I listened to Lily Ebert, read her book, I couldn’t remain silent ,

Hamas has learned that taking hostages pays off.

How much do you think Jewish children might be affected by this? Their great grandparents were murdered by the Nazis, their grandparents survived by hiding in forests, or hidden by noble people who risked death by hiding them, or they survived the concentration camps (have you ever visited one?) These grandparents went to Israel and forced the world to listen to them and they built the democratic state of Israel from scratch. Their parents live under constant attack from the countries around them and so they built the iron dome and safe rooms (which didn’t keep the people safe at all on 07/10/23) The children of Israel grow up knowing that everyone around them hates them and wishes them dead, just like the Nazis did.

That’s how the Israeli children grow up.

Now that is the best post I've seen on any of these threads.

Normal human values are not meaningless in this situation. I feel compassion for those on both sides who just want what we want. A safe and free environment to live, work and bring up family.

And how do you think the children of Palestine grow up?

And Israeli children are taught to hate them, and that destroying them is their right, and that Palestinian lives do not count, do not matter . Since 1948, on and on- yes, generations of pain, suffering and hate.

This is not 'taking sides', this is the tragedy of it all.

AnnieB- the figures quoted above are not 'according to Hamas', despite journalists nor International agencies not being allowed to report.

I truly despair.

Anniebach Sat 18-Jan-25 22:42:22

The youngest detainee is 16 years old, the youngest hostage is now age 2 .

It’s 53 years since the Palestine Black September terrorists
murdered the Israeli Olympic Team, I wept

Louella12 Sat 18-Jan-25 22:48:44

Israeli children are not taught to hate Palestinians at all.

Are you aware that many Palestinians work in Israel? They go to Israel medical treatment. Many road signs and public information leaflets are printed in Arabic.

Israel do not want to annihilate Palestinians. It's the Palestinians who want Jews wiped off the face of the world. From the river to the sea? I'm sure you know what that means. I hope you do anyway.

Maybe do some research. You might surprise yourself

Allira Sat 18-Jan-25 23:02:31

I truly despair
I don't think you're alone, I think we all despair at what has been going on.
Ordinary people in general do not want war, terrorism, they want to live their lives in peace with their neighbours.
But it is never going to happen because those who want to fight gain positions of power.

Rarely we do see accord between nations because leaders are elected, good people who strive for peace but it never lasts.

Claremont Sat 18-Jan-25 23:02:55

This child survivor of the Holocaust understands what is going on in Palestine

fb.watch/xbWXMZtc79/

he knows more than most.

Annie, children and babies of all ages are being killed, maimed and damaged forever, in Palestine.

The children injured and killed in Gaza is awful but they were there with their families living together one minute, then injured the next minute.Being held hostage by those who hate you simply for being Jewish when you are a small child, held in darkness for some of the time, urged not to cry by a parent or nearby adult, for fear of making your guards angry, being frightened and confused for 15 months of your young life, can you imagine that? I will be very surprised if somewhere along that time any young children will have survived that ordeal but pray to God that they will. For any young women taken hostage including mothers of children, can you imagine living that length of time often in tunnels, wondering if it’s today you’ll be raped again and for the male hostages wondering if you will be shot at any hour? There are worse things than suddenly being injured or killed by a missile attack.

maddyone Sun 19-Jan-25 08:41:49

Just seen that the ceasefire has been delayed. I don’t know why.

Oreo Sun 19-Jan-25 08:46:48

It’s to do with the hostage list not being supplied by hamas which was part of the demands of the deal.

Anniebach Sun 19-Jan-25 08:47:21

Yes, BBC news, Hamas hasn’t released names of hostages who are to be released

Anniebach Sun 19-Jan-25 08:50:52

Oreo the thought of living in much fear every day for 15 months , horrific

Louella12 Sun 19-Jan-25 08:58:17

This is just a hellish wait now. The families must be filled with hope but also dread.

I wanted you to see how that compared with being a terrified hostage for 15 months, but you obvs can’t see that.

Oreo Sun 19-Jan-25 09:08:15

The names have now been given by hamas so the handover of three can go ahead today.

Anniebach Sun 19-Jan-25 09:12:08

Thank God

Oreo Sun 19-Jan-25 09:21:24

In five minutes!

Anniebach Sun 19-Jan-25 09:25:08

Impossible to imagine how the families of the hostages are feeling

eazybee Sun 19-Jan-25 09:30:10

It is all very calculated to cause the maximum distress,

Louella12 Sun 19-Jan-25 09:36:43

31-year-old Doron Steinbrecher and dual British-Israeli Emily Damari, 28, who were kidnapped from their kibbutz, as well as 24-year-old Romi Gonen, who was taken from the Supernova Festival

These are the first 3 to be released.

Oreo Sun 19-Jan-25 09:44:20

Around 2pm today.
