Just stop your endless commentary is not fact based just random comments . Trump is a dictator wanna be . After swearing to uphold the constitution one of his first acts is to act against the constitution . You seem to be easily duped by his faceless bluster and as a US citizen I find it tiring .

Well let’s all come back in 12 months and see if he can “walk the talk”.

And yet here you are.

Yes, as a counterpoint . It would be nice if you had some facts behind what you say but it is just incendiary nonsense . Trump is an incompetent . Your inference that he is going to improve US citizens lives and by example British lives is bonkers . He is there to empower his rich buddies and democracy be damned .

You just can't wait for him to apply massive tarifs on all British exports- with diabolical effects of agriculture and industries that have already been massively affected by Brexit.

Can't wait for us to totally lose our Sovereignty- the very same that Brexit was all about?

Can't wait for the majority of people to lose access to healthcare, as they can't afford it.

How very lovely! Not.

Huia Tue 21-Jan-25 19:01:23

I’m shocked that so many Grans can’t see how awful Trump’s presidency will be for all of us. He is a person with no moral compass and cares about no one and nothing except himself. I hope he doesn’t survive the 4 years in office as I’m not sure he will leave otherwise.

Galaxy Tue 21-Jan-25 19:06:20

I am shocked that.people can wish someone dead but there you go we all have different standards.

valdali Tue 21-Jan-25 19:29:13

I'm a it shocked that a lot of posters can't see how awful Trump & his presidency potentially is, too. & agree that I don't trust him to leave at the end of his constitutional term.

Hope he hasn't taken those newly developed, hugely expensive, age- busting drugs that some researchers / pharma are wanting to trial soon - with his money, who knows.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 21-Jan-25 19:30:18

Claremont I find your constant references to Brexit reminds me of another poster whom we haven’t heard from in a while. You must have very similar views. 😁

Claremont Tue 21-Jan-25 20:20:51

No idea- but there are many thousands of us who feel the same. The comparison is quite obvious for many.

Sovereignty was massively important for one, and not at all for the other- and for the same people.

I am very sure, apart from a few exceptions, that Brexiters and the same as 'Trumpers'.

RosiesMaw2 Tue 21-Jan-25 20:31:45

I am very sure, apart from a few exceptions, that Brexiters and (are?) the same as 'Trumpers'

I am not at all sure that you can extrapolate from the EU result.
1) it was a very narrow majority
2) one related to the UK and the other to a country many will not even have visited and may know little about
3) the social demographic of voters can’t be equated.
4) the “reasons” behind both Leave and Remain campaigns in the UK were quite local and specific
5) the psychology of the nations is in many areas very different

You may have anecdotal evidence of overlapping political stances but no way would this stand up to any sort of sociological or political scientific scrutiny.
So it remains (see what I did there) your opinion , unproven and AFAIK unsubstantiated.

The spectator has just run a poll showing support for trump was highest in the 18 -30 age range in Britain.

Casdon Tue 21-Jan-25 20:51:17

Yes, that’s been the case for a while. I follow Ipsos, here is their latest poll. Support is not high in any age group, but it’s higher than other age groups for under thirties.

And the received wisdom is that that age-group supported Remain - but it seems not enough of them bothered to vote in the referendum.

A bit off telling another poster to stop commenting, anyone would think another view isn’t allowed🤔now that really would be a fascist State.

Galaxy Tue 21-Jan-25 21:27:10

So it is probably a complex picture, as that age group wouldnt have voted Brexit as mostly would have been too young to vote.

Casdon Tue 21-Jan-25 21:29:56

Voter lethargy would probably result in the young not turning out to vote for Trump either in reality. It’s less effort to answer a survey than to vote.

Galaxy Tue 21-Jan-25 21:32:26

I was a bit wary as it seemed a small sample to me but I know very little about sampling methodology. I suppose it probably reflects that young people will tend to be on social media more rather than mainstream media, for good or bad, that will influence things.

Deedaa Tue 21-Jan-25 21:35:29

It's depressing that so many who voted for Brexit to regain their "sovrinty" now seem hell bent on handing it over to Trump and Musk. Neither of them are going to do anything for us out of the goodness of their hearts.

Your evidence for this assumption being….?
I wasn’t aware any of us in the UK had a vote in the US Presidential election.

ronib Tue 21-Jan-25 21:40:01

What is there left to hand over Deedaa and what use is it to anyone? Trump can’t be that interested in a country on the financial edge? Not one of his better investments?
