Wow!
All eyes will be on America.

I said commenting without facts . I am American and if you see the disinformation spread and influences the small minded who then go on to vote in a terrible man like Trump . FGT is an obsessive poster on this subject and I don’t like to see Trumps hate filled rhetoric that is not fact based spread . Evil has drenched the USA now with his election . I have not forgotten Jan 6 where so many were injured defending the Capitol ) one killed ) Trump has now released these people ! Gloating how great Trump is and that his policies would be great for Britain just makes me sick .

Voter lethargy would probably result in the young not turning out to vote for Trump either in reality. It’s less effort to answer a survey than to vote.

It is one false fact that Trump won the young vote majority . He lost them by -11 percent . Yet there he was saying he won them by 36 points . Just an out and out lie .

What is there left to hand over Deedaa and what use is it to anyone? Trump can’t be that interested in a country on the financial edge? Not one of his better investments?

Trump is a megalomaniac . He would conquer the world if he could .

We were actually discussing young British people supporting Trump Syracute, but I’m heartened to hear that young Americans didn’t vote for him. Maybe a new young Dylan will emerge now.

Syracute I am sorry this has hit you so hard. I hope Trump will have enough to keep him busy in America and then the next administration will come along and undo it all over again. It feels a bit crazy in the Uk too. Still four years isn’t an impossibly long time so doing something enjoyable in the meantime is one option. Visit Iceland or somewhere? It’s not great for our mental health to be tormented by politics.

So far, Trump has:

Tried to subvert the US Constitution to overturn the 14th Amendment, which he can not legally do.

Has instructed his cabinet to use impoundment to claw back already appropriated funds, which is illegal

Tried to create a Government agency, which is unconstitutional

raised the cost of prescription drugs for seniors and low income, wiping out the $2000 a year cap on the cost of certain drugs. He also overturned the order that allows diabetics to pay only $35 for insulin. (Before this, many diabetics were struggling to get insulin at all due to the ridiculous cost)

Try to weaken the Affordable Care Act, including limiting subsidies for low income people to help pay the sky high cost of even having insurance.

Re-issued Schedule F, which strips employment protections for federal workers, making it easier to fire them.

Pardoned over 1,600 people, over half of which were violent, for attacking the Capital and trying to kill Mike Pence.

Took the US out of the Paris Climate treaty and WHO, just as the risk of another pandemic is starting to rear it's head.

He has threatened Panama, Greenland, Canada and Mexico. He stated that the 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico will start Feb 1st.

Has instructed his cabinet to sell federal properties to private businesses and figure out how to use imminent domain to seize other lands so the oil companies can drill. He has shut down or limited offshore wind farms.

Gosh, there is so much more, just in the last 24 hours. But this is a good sample of what Trump has accomplished in his first 24 hours. Can someone please point out to me which of these actions looks like real leadership? Which ones should Starmer learn a thing or two about?

I am not tormented by politics . I have always since a young age been interested in politics . I will stand up for what I believe in . As far as your snarky remark about go visit Iceland . I live in the UK now and have British citizenship as well as American . I surely don’t want to see Trumps ugly politics infect Britain .

Thanks again for your concise, accurate reports ! This highlights the danger that Trump has brought with his few hours of office . He is clearly being supported by the Project 2025 crowd . He had to question what he was signing and it was clear in one video he had no clue . Which is a real danger .

I would definitely not follow any advice from Trump regarding windmills if I were you. [Smile]

FGT is an obsessive poster on this subject

It only seems that way because I’m swimming against your tide Syracuse. There are LOADS of posters on this subject however you don’t rail against them or call them obsessive (how rude) because their views chime with yours!

ronib Tue 21-Jan-25 22:25:23

syracute well it wasn’t meant to be snarky- my grandchildren all want to go to Iceland so it has become a bit of an obsession.
Am thinking that oil and water don’t mix well together so Uk might be okay ….

I stand by what I said.
The Constitution has now been taken down from the White House .gov page. How does that strike you ?

TiggyW Wed 22-Jan-25 00:35:42

Personally, I can’t stand the sight of Trump. Everything about him is repulsive. At least Musk can’t become President (unless Trump changes the rules!).
One aspect of the proceedings struck me more than anything else - the Americans are amateurs when it comes to pomp and ceremony. The guests looked as though they’d turned up for a wedding. No military bands, beefeaters, cavalry, bagpipes, royal carriages, ceremonial dress. We Brits know how to rise to an occasion!

Pippa22 Wed 22-Jan-25 23:12:31

Fri we dGreenTomatoes I found Trumps speech inspiring too and to hear a leader with positivity and drive such a contrast to dull, boring, negative Starmer who just talks our country down all the time. At times I felt envious of Trump and his self importance and obvious exaggerated ideas, at least he loves his country and wants it to do well.

Calendargirl what has Meghan got to do with anything to do with Melania? I think Meghan is living rent free in your head. You just can't help yourself. Sad really.

NannyC1 Thu 23-Jan-25 22:32:27

ronib have I missed something? what has your grandchildren wanting to go to Iceland(which is beautiful btw) got to do with trump?

ronib Fri 24-Jan-25 03:12:47

NannyC1 having been on emergency granny duties this week, it just struck me that rather than be so consumed by politics, it was better to find joy in life. It can’t be good to obsess about the choices another country makes and which will be overturned in 4 years at the next election. We can’t change the world that much only our response to perceived political events, bonkers as they are.
