The article in The Times is behind a paywall Jewelle.
It’s been a while so I will start us off…….whats for supper and why?
Apparently there are over one million migrants living here in the UK who have no right to be here.
600,000 of them are living in London. Just think about that huge number for a moment.
It equates to TEN football stadiums full to capacity in our capital city.
No wonder we’re broke. It’s dispiriting. Our borders are so leaky it’s not worth pretending any more that we have them.
What do you think about this newly released information?

They tracked the spread of Covid and the numbers involved via water and sewage systems here. Presumably the amount of water used gives some indication of numbers over and above those expected.

If they have no right to live and work here, how has this number been calculated? I would appreciate some proper information.
Such people can’t be a cost to us unless they are asylum seekers in the course of being processed or appealing, but the OP doesn’t imply that that is the case. People living here illegally can’t claim benefits or obtain social housing.
I don't get this either.
Does it just mean without a valid residence permit I wonder?
My lovely next door neighbour had been waiting for hers for years. It was all above board but has still taken ages to process - and yes, I do mean years.
It is through now. Thankfully.

Unless the water system is 100s of years old and it's leaking away, maybe!

Can’t see it in The Times. Which newspaper is it in. Let me guess. The Express. Mail? Sun ( if so maybe they’re trying to deflect away from yesterdays damning court ruling).
Are you not concerned that these people could be being exploited.
They could have been trafficked here, have no papers and made to work for peanuts, could be held in brothels, working as general dogs bodies with no rights or access to healthcare?
But hey ho, if it’s not in a newspaper you approve of it can be dismissed?

Yes, I am. They will be working in plain sight yet the authorities cannot find them for some reason.
The women in particular may be leading miserable lives too, not what they were led to believe.
We were proud to get rid of slavery but in truth it is still here with us in this country.
We should be ashamed.
Can agree with one thing fgt, our borders certainly are leaky, we are an island and not the first port of call for most refugees.
As for being broke, last time I heard we are the 5 th wealthiest country in the world though it doesn’t feel like it, at least for those that struggle.
Because it’s printed in a once respected newspaper doesn’t mean it’s true.

It's in the Telegraph.
The report was commissioned by Thames Water- who are trying very hard to divert attention away from their woeful record.
It was carried out by a firm who is led by three Americans with their own agenda no doubt
None of the 'information' was based on Home Office statistics, so where does the information come from?
The word 'estimated' is doing some heavy lifting in the article.
You ask where does the information come from
People who work in sewage plants know if they are dealing with more sewage.
We produce 150 litres of waste per day ( that’s an average)
So when plants know they are dealing with far more than they would expect that can only mean one thing.
Im another who doesn't doubt that some people do exist but doubt the accuracy and sources of the data and am waiting for a fact check and am concerned at the over use of "apparently" and "estimates".
I’m concerned at the inflammatory SHOCKING
Allira your post of 10.13.45 👏👏👏
Excess sewage is interesting 🤔 but clearly unscientific.
These poor men were treated like slaves.
And nobody at McDonalds accounts noticed that all these men’s wages were going into one bank account to the tune of £215,000.

Me too. Obviously there are people who have come here undetected or have escaped from a detention centre and are living under the radar but I am suspicious of the estimated numbers. Thames Water of course have their own agenda and every reason to inflate numbers.
Car cleaners, nail bars, domestic servants, hospitality workers etc
The sooner people who are here illegally are found and processed the sooner they can work legally - and pay tax.
I can't find any references to a Thames Water report on the subject later than 2020, which is this one"
www.thameswater.co.uk/media-library/home/about-us/regulation/water-resources/wrmp24/technical-appendices/population-and-property-projections.pdf
None of the newspapers are giving references to any new report so we can read it for ourselves. I believe they are working from the 2020 report.

We don't have a government that cares it's as simple as that really.

I support the alternative could be walking round the streets and asking
put your hand up if you are here illegally and not applied for the appropriate visa
Might work 🤔

Is there an underlying agenda to this OP?
A strong supporter of Trump is one I suggest.
Please don’t.
I just wish that people wouldn’t jump to the headlines in one faction of the media and post something as though it is the full facts. There is no point having any form of discussion until we know whether it is true, ie widely reported, or a distortion of the facts. Surely that isn’t too much to ask?
I agree Casdon. I thoroughly dislike this sort of thread, started in ‘shock, horror, breaking news’ style intended to inflame, but with zero evidence to back up what is stated as ‘fact’. I do like to see and consider the evidence .

put your hand up if you are here illegally and not applied for the appropriate visa
Now, please "put your hand up if you have applied for asylum or the appropriate visa and are still waiting for it to be processed"
I notice this was headline news in the mail on line. Then lots of ‘positive’ comments about Trump and hostility to the bishop of Washington.
The outcome of the legal battle between Harry, Tom Watson and the Murdoch press? A small footnote.
Every country in Europe is struggling with the influx of asylum seekers. I’m so relieved we have calmer politicians trying to do their best with this. The Trump approach disgusts me. Inflaming tensions between groups is not the way to safe, stable societies
