I remembered having recommended this novel in a previous thread. For once the search-box found the post. It was in an interesting thread started in September 2020 which is very relevant to this one. There are some perceptive posts in it – and the tone throughout is one of discussion, not confrontation. That is an illustration of the way confrontation has recently become the norm in discussions of serious subjects.
www.gransnet.com/forums/news_and_politics/1284656-Is-this-the-path-the-UK-is-taking?There were only 63 responses on that post compared to 250+ on this one so really it didn't take off, whether that's a positive or not I've no idea. Also isn't it forbidden to bring other posts into an existing one (I'm not sure?)

No, I don't think so if it's as a reference point.
A thread about a thread is against the rules, I think.I thnk the subject is generating more interest than it did four or five years ago. We have all had a few more years exposure than we had then. I am glad that it is getting a good airing, even if it does reveal some xenophobic attitudes.
Thank you for the clarification Allira
