Western liberal values are what I believe in. Presumably if we stand with Europe against Russia that will be what we are defending. If you continually tell people how terrible these values are dont be at all surprised when they refuse to join you to fight for them.

You are quite right. The febrile nature of this article threw me.
Hamas probably did make a mistake which will, we hope, be rectified.

Perhaps they knew they were returning the wrong body, they released a hostage, knew the wife and two daughters were dead. They burned them alive in their own home, they let him speak on a stage saying how he was so looking forward to seeing them ,

Who knows if it was a mistake by hamas or deliberate but the result is the same, shockingly for the family who hoped for a loving burial service for mother and toddler and baby.It would have given them some sort of comfort.

If they were at war with another country, they should be adhering to the standards of international warfare. They are not doing so.

If they are destroying land and killing people who are not in a separate country, but part of their own, they are doing it to punish the whole area and the community living in it for the crimes of a part. I think that would be classed as "cruel and unnatural punishment"
