Yet another hideous grooming/rape conviction

In Glasgow this time, absolutely appalling crimes. While I am very aware that there are children and young people who have suffered greatly, I note the absence of indignant calls for action from the likes of Farage, Badenoch etc., . I can't think why

According to your link this trial was in 2023 and they are all behind bars, several with life sentences.

Boz Mon 27-Jan-25 16:48:04

They look to be a bunch of degenerates. Horrible, horrible story.

Allira Mon 27-Jan-25 16:52:11

The sentences were not long enough imo.

HousePlantQueen Mon 27-Jan-25 16:53:49

I only read about it today when there was a discussion about life sentences. It is truly appalling. Apologies if this is old news, but my comment stands about lack of public comment from the usual commentators, and I don't remember reading about anyone setting fire to libraries or smashing up shop centres when these crimes were reported. Maybe I missed it

I too only read it today and also started a thread but I ve asked for it to be removed HPQ
Hideous, but so little mention in the press, because obviously they are home grown abusers !!!

Odd because it is being reported again - perhaps more information has come to light.

Well, it was well-reported at the time.

Was it ever established that any of the gang were related to these three children?

GrannyGravy13 Mon 27-Jan-25 17:11:17

One of the women was back in court, it’s all in the OP’s link.

Allira Mon 27-Jan-25 17:13:07

Thanks.

ViceVersa Mon 27-Jan-25 17:13:41

As far as I know, although the trial took place in November 2023, they have only just been sentenced today. The case was well-reported at the time, but sentencing did not take place until now. It would not be reported whether there was any relation between the children and those convicted, because that could lead to identification of the children.

It's back in the news today.

I don't expect Farage to comment on it, as he will be dealing with the fallout from his nephew's upskirting incident.

Sorry, I did check buy didn't see any other threads on this.

Haven't seen anything about Elon Musk condemning it either

Horrid horrid horrid, trying to make a political point from young girls pain and misery.
As pointed out this was from 2023, and I'm sure there was an outcry from many.
Shameful.

Yes indeed. I assume he is grateful that "two tier Keir" hasn't given the nephew a stiffer sentence.

Police followed over 1,000 lines of enquiry according to the OP’s link.

It doesn’t appear that they dismissed the girls as consenting, they didn’t arrest the girls when found in their rapists company for being drunk, whilst letting the men off…

No comparisons with the the rape gangs you are referring to HousePlantQueen

No, the circumstances were not the same.

There was systematic cruelty involved in this case too. Truly shocking case but it was not classified as a grooming gang as far as I know.
I cannot believe some were acquitted - even if not perpetrators they must have been aware.

foxie48 Mon 27-Jan-25 17:36:54

I think HPQ is making a perfectly valid point and is no more guilty of making a political point than others have done with regard to similar crimes. Anyone who reads or follows a variety of media will be aware of how the reporting of crimes can be used for political purposes.

foxie48 Mon 27-Jan-25 17:38:20

I should add that nothing of what I have said should detract from the seriousness of these crimes regardless who is the perpetrator.

Casdon Mon 27-Jan-25 17:39:15

One of the children involved was still young enough to be wearing nappies. The sentencing was today, which is why it’s been in the news today. ‘Sentencing had been delayed until now because of delays in risk assessments which were ordered to help Lord Beckett decide whether to impose the lifelong restriction orders’ according to the BBC.
These crimes were horrific. Why anybody would want to shut down discussion I don’t know, because surely it would form part of the national inquiry that was so widely wanted on here a few weeks ago.

The report about this on BBC iplayer main news page.

It's not old news. The sentencing was delayed until today. I wasn't aware of it at the time.
