We keep hoping Wyllow. But so far it isn't happening.

In Tennessee right now, there is a bill to arrest and jail elected officials (R and D) who do not support and agree with Trumps plans.

Surely there is a decent significant Republican who will call him out on this?

I keep expecting someone to call him out but is like watching an avalanche in slow motion whilst everyone just turns the other way. These days everyone is just a spectator, watching the unbelievable and the unforgiveable and saying nothing.

*What Trump is doing just now is attempting to claim that the tragic plane crash was caused by Biden's diversity policies*

Maybe it was?

This from BBC news.

In his remarks, he referenced the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) hiring of people with "severe intellectual" disabilities and other mental or physical issues.
A website for the FAA's diversity and inclusion hiring programme appears to have been taken down in December.
An archived version of the site, however, shows that the FAA was seeking people with "targeted disabilities" that the federal government was prioritising for recruitment at the time.
The website specifically referenced hearing and vision issues, as well as "missing extremities, partial paralysis, completely paralysis, epilepsy, severe intellectual disability, psychiatric disability and dwarfism".

Would you want a hard of hearing, short sighted, dwarf guiding your plane in?

This is not even worth answering, but I will try. Within a huge administration such as the FAA, there are thousands of different professions and skills. Some, such as air traffic control require special skills, some such as security guards on the site, or kitchen staff in the refectory do not. Unless of course, like your hero Trump, you think that only white, herosexual men should be employed in state or government positions?

Air Traffic Controllers have to go through a rigorous medical and mental health evaluation.

At application to become one, a person must:

The Fall 2024 application window is now closed.

Apply to the vacancy announcement.

Use the ATC Application Checklist to guide you.

View the Air Traffic Control: Application Resources videos to help you build your resume and navigate the application process.

Pass the Air Traffic Skills Assessment (ATSA) and achieve a score within a certain percentile. You will have up to 3 1/2 hours to complete the test in person at an approved testing facility. The ATSA is free of charge.

Pass medical and security clearance, including:

Drug testing

Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI2)

Medical Exam/Physical

Fingerprinting

Federal background check

On the Tennessee bill:

"“Creates criminal penalties for officials who adopt sanctuary policies and subsequently requires their removal from office upon conviction.”

If an official is found to have voted for a sanctuary policy, the district attorney would have sole discretion on whether charges would need to be pursued."

Here is the actual bill. It says its a class E felony, which likely wont result in jail time. But they will remove the elected offical from office.

"Provides that the creation of the Class E felony offense in the bill relative to prohibiting state and local governmental entities and officials from adopting or enacting a sanctuary policy takes effect upon the bill becoming a law."

like your hero Trump, you think that only white, herosexual men should be employed in state or government positions?

He’s not my hero, in fact, the only time I ever think about him is when I come on here - this site is obsessed with him.

And I don’t think that only heterosexual white men should be employed in government, what a ridiculous thing to say.
But while we’re on the subject, I’m not entirely sure why there’s so much hate for heterosexual white men on here - I’m sure most of you are married to one.

HousePlantQueen Thu 30-Jan-25 19:49:43

But this is a thread about what Trump is doing.........

Wyllow3 Thu 30-Jan-25 19:52:56

Why don't you think a small person (Dwarfism) can't do air traffic control, Kandinsky?

Not quite sure what this means, does it mean anyone already working in sanctuary cities in an official role can be prosecuted?

This law only applies in Tennessee. However, it will set precedent for other states to follow.

Trump and his cronies are threatening Republicans all over the country. If they don't bend to his will, the billionaires have committed to spending vast amounts of money to remove them via primary elections.

The republican party is being threatened and the democrats are.... on vacation it seems. I have not seen anything other then strongly worded social media posts against the regime so far.

Unbelievably disrespectful to the relatives of those who died and the victims themselves.

As is your Would you want a hard of hearing, short sighted, dwarf guiding your plane in?

No-one knows yet who or what caused the accident. Or even if the fault was with air traffic control.

An archived version of the site, however, shows that the FAA was seeking people with "targeted disabilities" that the federal government was prioritising for recruitment at the time.

Did you miss this bit -
However, the programme listed on the site appears to be for the whole FAA, and does not specifically appear to be for air traffic control roles.
... or this -
"like many large employers, the agency proactively seeks qualified candidates from as many sources as possible, all of whom must meet rigorous qualifications that of course will vary by position".

For all you, or Trump for that matter, know, the relevant air traffic controller involved (if it is their involvement at fault) could have been able-bodied and quite sound-of-mind.

If it turns out that the cause of the crash was basically the fault of an individual or individuals who, for whatever reason, were not capable of meeting the rigorous standards which one assumes are required for navigating an aircraft, either on the ground via radar, or as its pilot, then that is the time to start questioning the recruitment programme and procedures. Otherwise it's just deliberate speculation with a purely political motive.

If Trump had an ounce of integrity he would have - as he did - acknowledge that the investigation is still at its very early stages... and left it at that.

He chose instead to give the pot another stir to make sure his war-on-woke doesn't go off the boil, thus cementing and creating even more division in American society.

I wonder how long it will take for your Would you want a hard of hearing, short sighted, dwarf guiding your plane in? to gain traction on social media?

like your hero Trump, you think that only white, herosexual (sic) men should be employed in state or government positions?

Don’t be silly.
Hyperbolic nonsense.

Blimey it’s febrile in here tonight.

I’m with Trump.
Time to pack in the DEI tick box hirings and employ on MERIT. Remember those days? When people were hired for ABILITY?

If you have a disability and score well on merit the job’s yours.

Not because we need to fulfil some arbitrary number of ethic groups/disabled/gender fluid/neurodivergent.

imaround Thu 30-Jan-25 20:13:27

I should also mention that the federal employees he illegally fired and have refused to leave their jobs (because it was illegal) are being escorted off the job right now.

He has done nothing but break the law since last week.

What is funny about this whole merit conversation is that Trump has nominated people who are not qualified to lead agencies because of their loyalty to him.

We have an alcoholic Fox News host in charge of the worlds strongest military. This should scare everyone around the world.

We are currently watching RFK, a long time heroin addict who had a brain worm and is an anti-vaxxer go through his confirmation hearing to be in charge of our health.

His team is literally questioning every single federal employee on their loyalty to Trump.

To bad he doesn't actually believe in the merit based hiring BS he wants his supporters to believe in.

Musk recently hired 2 people for the Office of Budget Management who are 18 and 21 years old. High up positions too.

One is Tucker Carlson's son, the other is a Peter Thiel protege.

I am sure they are highly qualified to be hired over all the people with experience who have worked within the department for years.

Sounds more like a Mafia Don than a president, giving those who kiss his ring an enviable place in the mob and getting rid of those who dare cross him.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 30-Jan-25 20:45:33

DEI isn't always wrong, just 95% of the time, and 100% in safety-critical appointments.

Whatever the case, a tragic incident, and condolences to all affected.

imaround Thu 30-Jan-25 20:54:51

There is no proof that DEI was involved in this incident.

There is proof that Trump is not hiring based on merit, but rather by loyalty.

Not because we need to fulfil some arbitrary number of ethic groups/disabled/gender fluid/neurodivergent.

It's worth considering that DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) initiatives aim to address historical inequities and create more inclusive workplaces.

Individuals from marginalized group, such as racial and ethnic minorities, women, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and neurodivergent people, often faced significant challenges in the workplace and broader society. These people are citizens in our country and I do wonder why you don't consider them equal in that citizenship.

Promoting meritocracy is important in ensuring that the most capable candidates are selected for jobs but many can now see that a diverse team can lead to better decision-making, increased creativity, and improved performance overall.

You talk about others being "silly" or "febrile" or posting "hyperbolic nonsense". These personal attacks are not arguments. Without an argument you appear to be falling back on your personal feelings rather than giving us discussion points and facts.

imaround Thu 30-Jan-25 21:12:17
