Trump has been busy with his plan for Gaza!

So Gaza is going to become the new Riviera.

It’s a crazy plan but nothing else has worked.

To refer the OP comment ‘nothing else has worked’

But nothing has been tried. The much talked about two state solution is the only one I can think of and that got nowhere. Mainly because Israel never wanted it.

I’m genuinely unnerved by the latest comments from the Potus. How can he conclude he has the right to tell the people of Palestine what’s best for them. Gaza is indeed in need of rebuilding, as was much of Europe after the last attempt at wiping people out.
It was recognised that Germany needed help. It needed to rebuild its cities and its society. So that’s what the allies set out to do, in communication and consensus with the German people. They’d voted Hitler in for reasons well understood and accepted now.
The parallels with Hamas and Palestine are obvious. The Palestinian people voted Hamas - Trump’s plans will recruit more to Hamas.
It’s terrrifying

Well said.

Israel might have wanted it once, when Yitzhak Rabin was PM and he signed the Oslo Peace Accord in September 1993 with Yasser Arafat. As was reported in the Guardian when Rabin was assassinated by a far right Israeli - much like the government is made up of today -

'The road to Yitzhak Rabin’s assassination began in Oslo. It was there that two teams of negotiators, Palestinian and Israeli, met in secret, gradually forging the Oslo accords, sealed in September 1993 by a handshake on the White House lawn between Rabin and the Palestinian leader, Yasser Arafat. Rabin delivered the ceremony’s most memorable line: “We say to you today in a loud and a clear voice: enough of blood and tears. Enough.”

A massive opportunity was wasted right there.
Now am not sure peace can ever be achieved, too much bloodshed, too much rage, too much desire for revenge.

Yes I remember it well Babs. Yasser Arafat had the biggest smile. Then Rabin the Israeli PM was murdered shortly after thar by a far right Israeli

Which Israeli Jew said that?
Most Israeli Jews are concerned with getting hostages back and making sure another 7/Oct/ 23 can never happen again, as are all the English Jews I know, family and friends.

I have his name, I have my friends names- I won't share them to you.

You are so so mistaken, most Jews, and most Israeli Jews do NOT support Netanyahu, fear for their future because of his action and deliberate genocide, and are so distraught and ashamed by his actions and Trump's support. Totally.

Correct in one - again😊

😄No not correct at all, or maybe in your own view.
Claremont cannot say ‘most Jews and most Israeli Jews, that’s just laughable frankly.

Claremont Wed 05-Feb-25 19:14:47

This is exactly what YOU wrote, and quoted yourself above. YOU wrote

Most Israeli Jews - how can YOU say it- what evidence do YOU have!

Oreo Wed 05-Feb-25 19:19:49

I expect I know more than you as I’m Jewish. You just bring random ‘friends’ into the mix.

Starmer today on Gaza

They must be allowed home. They must be allowed to rebuild. And we should be with them in that rebuild, on the way to a two state solution

Whitewavemark2 Wed 05-Feb-25 19:21:07

Thank goodness for a leader who believes in the rule of law

Oreo Wed 05-Feb-25 19:21:31

They must be allowed to rebuild? Who are they? They, the Palestinians in Gaza rely on aid for everything so who picks up the bill?

Oreo Wed 05-Feb-25 19:22:42

Starmer is being a politician, don’t get too excited.

Oreo Wed 05-Feb-25 19:24:10

The question is still there, where are two million of them going to live while Gaza is levelled and rebuilt?

JWS ‘spoke to one friend in Gaza’
and

‘The view of an Israeli Jew’

All anecdotal stuff I suppose.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 05-Feb-25 19:35:40

Have a look at the footage of hundreds of Jews protesting outside of the WH . Jews burning the Israeli flag.

Netanyahu certainly does not have the support of the majority of Jews, even in Israel.

Trump is totally deranged but he is the leader of the most powerful nation in the free world which is truly terrifying. Many times when he comes out with these rants I honestly think I am mishearing what is being said - make Canada part of the USA, turn Gaza into a Riviera, etc. Yet millions of US citizens voted for him and believe in what he says (or at least some of what he says). Gaza may well be bombed and flattened but to the Palestinians it is their homeland. If someone bombed Scotland and suggested I was moved somewhere while my country was taken over else I would be saying "no way ".

Jared Kushner: "Gaza's waterfront property, it could be very valuable... But I think from Israel's perspective I would do my best to move the people out and then clean it up"

silverlining48 Wed 05-Feb-25 19:56:38

Of course they must be enabled to re build their broken homes. You ask who picks up the bill, well clearly they can’t so they will need help, just as Germany needed help after the war. The majority of any people whoever they are, want to live in peace and deserve to feel safe.
As for relying on aid, they were mainly self sufficient in food but much else has to come in via the border gates controlled by Israel. There is no freedom of movement everything is controlled by Israel.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 05-Feb-25 19:59:02

Trouble is, it’ll get built up then it’ll get knocked down again.
They don’t get on.

Oreo Wed 05-Feb-25 19:59:09

Whitewavemark2 Am highly tempted to just say So? And leave it at that, but you can’t just say ‘ here is a person who doesn’t support BN and the Israeli Government’ because of course there are many who don’t but not the majority of Jews in Israel. They are surrounded by enemies and will fight to preserve their country, whatever it takes.BN has never been universally popular but was still voted in ( and yes I know about Israeli politics so don’t need a googled lecture).
People (Jews) are as diverse as anyone else in their opinions but all sympathise with the atrocities meted out by hamas Palestinians and their supporters and realise that there had to be dire consequences for Gaza even if they disagree about how
the IDF should have gone about it.

Oreo Wed 05-Feb-25 20:00:49

It can’t just be rebuilt while hamas are still there.
