Farage. Well he’s Top of the Pops right now! 😂

This tonight, from the ‘i’ newspaper (that I also now subscribe to, not just The Telegraph!) ….

“Nigel Farage stood up at Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday to hostile silence. Squashed together in the Commons, MPs from other parties glowered at him, and then delighted as he appeared to fluff his lines when asking a question about the Chagos Islands.

Behind the scenes it is a different story, with individual MPs from other parties queuing up to ask the Reform UK leader to sign House of Commons wine bottles and drinks coasters for family members and constituents who are fans of his brand of straight-talking populism. It’s not clear whether those MPs acknowledge the cognitive dissonance involved.

There’s no doubt Reform is having a moment. On average, the last half-dozen polls have put the party on 25 per cent, putting it equal first with Labour. Three of those polls put the party in the lead, either solely or in tandem with Labour.

It’s causing tangible jitters among both Labour and Conservative MPs. At PMQs, Farage accused them of “panic.”

This week a group of around 40 Labour MPs from “Red Wall” seats in the north of England called for Sir Keir Starmer to send a stronger message on immigration as they seek to see off the threat from Farage and his crew ahead of local elections in May.

Behind the scenes, other Labour MPs have requested training sessions from No 10 on how to deal with Reform in their areas. “It really troubles them,” a Labour source said.”

C’mon REFORM!

Farage is a clear Traitor- and has been working against the country for a very long time.

But now, he will have to come clean and make a clear choice. In a world conflict, will he support Trump and Putin, or the UK and its European Allies and neighbours.

I once knew someone who was imprisoned for leaking sensitive documents threatening national security.

Do you think Farage is in fact a traitor and should be charged under the Official Secrets Act, Claremont?

He may not be universally liked but that doesn’t make him a traitor, never mind a clear one.😄

Churchview Sat 22-Feb-25 21:44:44

He betrayed those who'd voted for him by his failure to attend or perform his duties as an MEP.

Casdon Sat 22-Feb-25 21:49:54

Some people do enjoy lighting the metaphorical touch paper, stand back and watch the drama unfold. It’s a sure sign when you immediately know who started a thread just from the heading. I don’t think it’s to do with the publication itself, rather, ‘It’s all the drama Mick, I just love it!’

That doesn't make him a traitor, though, does it.

Selling or betraying official secrets to an enemy or even the press can lead to prosecution and a possible prison term.
Is there evidence that Farage has done that?

Galaxy Sat 22-Feb-25 21:55:25

Under the Tory government I knew exactly who had started a thread from the title.

Oh, I know, Casdon.
Other posters have done this, are past masters at it, but are protesting about it now!!

Ironic, isn't it, but quite amusing nonetheless.
😁

I have noticed a few posters who do this kind of thing it’s true.

Yes.

traitor
/ˈtreɪtə/
noun
noun: traitor; plural noun: traitors

a person who betrays someone or something, such as a friend, cause, or principle.
"he was a traitor to his own class"

Allira Sat 22-Feb-25 22:08:00

Well, being a person who betrays someone or something, such as a friend, cause, or principle or a traitor to his own class is metaphorical.

That is not a criminal offence.
Treason is a criminal offence or do you mean Farage is guilty of betraying Official Secrets?

Churchview Sat 22-Feb-25 22:15:04

You're the one who's mentioned a criminal offence and treason Allira. I didn't.

I know. I'm just stating facts.

Accusing someone of being a traitor, as Claremont did, without evidence is defamation and libellous.
Perhaps Claremont might think it wise to withdraw that post.

“What makes a person a traitor?
: a person who is not loyal to his or her own country, friends, etc. : a person who betrays a country or group of people by helping or supporting an enemy”.
Imo Farage betrayed this country. The people behind Brexit didn’t do it in the best interest of the country and when you see the people and organisations behind it Bannon, Cambridge Analytica, they appear to be the sort of people behind Trump.

Allira Sat 22-Feb-25 22:42:39

I suppose it depends on whether or not Farage has broken the law, breached the Official Secrets Act. That would be for a jury to decide, not Gransnetters.

I regard Starmer as a traitor. He is not good for the country and you have 4 years of him. I have never come across such a bad PM and that includes the dreaded Thatcher and Tony Blair.

Wyllow3 Sun 23-Feb-25 01:06:00

Perhaps tell us why you consider him a traitor? I disagree very greatly, but`I feel that to say what you have, its reasonable to ask "why?".

nanna8 Sun 23-Feb-25 02:23:24

Who do you consider was a good PM here nanna8, having dismissed the two strongest ones we have had in the last 50 years?

Claremont Sun 23-Feb-25 10:14:55

William Hague on the K show this morning talked about freedom of speech. This after Farage stated in the USA that it is impossible in the UK 'to say anything for fear of being arrested'. William Hague talked about the importance of Free Speech, and listening to other points of view with- but that is has to remain 'within the Law'. Incitment to violence, threats incl. death and rape, etc, threats, including against politicians, and incitment to violent insurrection against Governement or other institutions, cannot be accepted as 'Free Speech' and should be punished.

I can't understand why you are so concerned with British politics and feel the need to constantly undermine Starmer..

Galaxy Sun 23-Feb-25 10:25:43

And again I am happy to list the women who have lost jobs or had to fight through the courts for the privilege of saying men cant be women. I couldnt care less what Hagues view on free speech is, he is either clueless or is pretending that he doesnt know what has happened. His own government had to intervene to ensure free speech in universities.

Silverbrooks Sun 23-Feb-25 10:27:15

Farage at CPAC: In my country can't say anything or you might get put in prison.

Good old Phil Moorhouse (A Different Bias) has responded:

Yet he's been saying exactly what he wants for well over a decade on a national platform and hasn't been arrested. Almost as if he's not quite telling the truth.
