The other filled up very swiftly - so I assume a need for it’s continuation.

Oh I am sure we are paying for it. Elon budget is tens of millions in the last 4 weeks and keeps getting bigger.

Trump has spent tons of millions of dollars just on travel to sports games. The sky is the limit when it comes to them

We have requirements for law enforcement, including a long background check process. None of these people have been background checked. You do not simply turn a private security guard into a police officer one day on someone's say so.

It is all to brownshirt for my tastes.

Yosemite was the highlight of my trip to America sad. What’s going to happen to Yellowstone? I don’t want to think about his plans for the wild mustangs whatever they are.

We fondly remember our trip to Yosemite too and Joshua Tree, The Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Red Rock Canyon. This is all so concerning,

I read about employees in one federal placebeing ordered to write an email saying what they had done at work in the prior week by Musk. Seems small, but it's all part of bullying and control.

Apparently all Federal employees received these instructions with a threat of instant dismissal if they don’t comply. That encompasses some 3 million employees IIRC.

Apart from the sheer absurdity of pretending that all those employees accounts of their weekly achievements will be scrutinised, at least 3 departments/agencies have refused to comply and told their employees nit to do it.

(that’s what is being reported on bluesky)

NanKate Sun 23-Feb-25 14:02:26

Trump and Musk’s weekly achievements imo are, being total morons, liars, bullies and have nothing between their ears.

Why does anyone in the UK or rest of the world need be involved in the Trump Musk dystopia? I heard the message loud and clear and it was go it alone America - so please do and don’t tell us another thing. We need to follow along similar tracks and work out how to enjoy all this navel gazing…..

Cossy Sun 23-Feb-25 14:56:29

I’d like to hear the news from America, from their citizens, so anyone here who does not wish to, my only advice is to scroll on by.

We discuss lots of other countries on here and should continue to do so.

Some of our fellow Gransnetters living in America might like to know some of us stand with them!

Wyllow3 Sun 23-Feb-25 15:27:20

Over the pond today, here tomorrow? We're being pulled to some degree into the dystopia - listen and learn for a very sad story of how a democracy is slowly changing into every appearance of a dictatorship.

You can stop opening and reading this thread.

It really is that simple for you.

Speaking of Yosemite. They are protesting this weekend.

I’ll be with them in spirit, then…

MayBee70 Sun 23-Feb-25 16:05:36

It seems to me that ‘Trusk’ are removing everything that can stop them being a dictator.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 23-Feb-25 17:57:51

I wonder what the world will look like in 4 years time?

It doesn’t bear thinking about really.

I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if he was still in power - for a third term - if he is still alive of course.

MayBee70 Sun 23-Feb-25 18:08:05

DH said to me when he was president last time ‘ he’s creating a dynasty’ and losing that election appeared to have thwarted it. No wonder he needed to insurrection to succeed.

Delila Sun 23-Feb-25 18:18:02

Ronib, I get the feeling that you get a kick out of undermining everything that anyone else expresses legitimate concern about. How can anyone remain unconcerned about what is going on in the world today, largely emanating from America? Do you seriously prefer to remain ignorant in the present world circumstances? Who is doing the navel-gazing, and who is burying their head in the sand?

Maremia Sun 23-Feb-25 18:31:02

Apparently, in the most recent Gallup poll, his rating has crashed to the lowest since their records began. That's what he is doing.

Maremia Sun 23-Feb-25 18:33:38

I respect your wish Ronib to avoid info about the Trump fiasco, but wonder why you keep popping up on these Trump themed threads?

ronib Sun 23-Feb-25 18:34:30

Delila I am not supposed to be reading this thread though am I?
However just exactly how is non stop griping about Trump and Musk supposed to help? A bit of sympathy at first but where do we go from here?
America is the country to have declared itself devoid of any responsibility for the rest of the world. America has said America First. Not much GNet can do about that. For a country so focused on itself, why is it even bothering to talk to Putin? What is the game plan? Completely untrustworthy at every level.

Maremia Sun 23-Feb-25 18:36:09

Yes Cossy, I am with you on that.

imaround Sun 23-Feb-25 18:36:22

His poll numbers are dropping rapidly. MAGA is pushing back against elected Republicans at Town Halls. This is what we have been waiting for. We need more MAGA to be on board to get rid of him. They are finally starting to feel the consequences of their choice.

Maremia Sun 23-Feb-25 18:38:19

Because Ronib, we are sharing info from other sources, which probs are more truthful than anything coming from Musk's mouthings.

ronib Sun 23-Feb-25 18:42:26

Maremia I don’t think you have access to accurate information though - it’s hardly going to appear here.

LizzieDrip Sun 23-Feb-25 18:47:44

ronib I don’t understand your annoyance about the thread. If you find a discussion about Trump / USA unpalatable, just scroll on by🤷‍♀️

Delila Sun 23-Feb-25 18:58:10

Yes indeed Ronib - why is the president of a country so devoid of responsibility for the rest of the world talking to Putin? You ask the question, yet you advocate complacency.

People are right to discuss it - it’s right that opinions and information are shared. That’s the way change can be generated. It often starts with talking.

imaround Sun 23-Feb-25 18:59:23

I am going to continue to post information about what is happening in the US as a warning to the rest of the world in hopes that they can stop this very thing from happening in their countries.

Every person can decide for themselves how important this information is. If one finds that this information is not important, it is very easy to change surroundings into something more acceptable, even online.

Casdon Sun 23-Feb-25 19:02:14

Ignore the naysayers imaround, most of us are keen to hear what is happening from somebody who knows because they live there, and you see a lot more reports daily than we could possibly see.
