The other filled up very swiftly - so I assume a need for it’s continuation.

Delila I do not advocate complacency. I don’t like the way the world seems to be ruled by Trump and Musk. If anything the comments here are coming across as one big whinge fest and that isn’t helping anyone either.

Delila Sun 23-Feb-25 19:05:42

Yes, thanks imaround, please do carry on sending your updates.

Always good to hear the Democrats take on things.
Adds balance if nothing else.

imaround Sun 23-Feb-25 19:26:09

I have no plans to stop posting. If someone thinks I am whining, they can stop reading.

"How about cutting Trump some slack? Dumping Europe and not taking financial responsibility for the rest of the world will help the American economy. "

Sounds pretty complacent to me, Ronib You also seem prety OK with the way Trump and Musk are ruling the world. I have absolutely no issue with you thinking differently to me or other people on here, what I can't figure out is what you do actually think. It seems to be very fluid.
My position is clear. I despise the way Trump is lying about the war in Ukraine, Zelensky did not start this war and is not a dictator but Putin is guilty of both. I think it's an abomination that Trump is trying to get his hands on Ukraine's mineral wealth and totally appalling that he and Musk are threatening to switch off Ukraine's access to Skylink in order to get their way. In what way is this "whingeing"?. What is your position on this?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 23-Feb-25 19:39:10

Good for you iamaround.

Aely Sun 23-Feb-25 19:50:50

Well, LizzyDrip, I always did like Sheryl Crow and now I like her even more!

ronib Sun 23-Feb-25 20:03:58

foxie48 Trump has been in power for days and the hype surrounding every move is extreme. The world laps up his every word but he is not my president and never will be. I guess the Foreign Office is working very hard to curtail Trump’s excesses.
If Trump wants self sufficiency for America, that’s the direction of travel he thinks is right for his country. His call so cut him some slack.

The rest of the world needs to stop bartering with him. Putin and Ukraine need to confront the long standing threats they pose each other without dragging other countries into the mess. It’s time Russia and Ukraine talked seriously about ending this war. Without American interference and finance.

Aely Sun 23-Feb-25 20:14:47

Imaround, re replacing the 4 star General with a 3 star. Could have been worse. My guess was, a new job for his favourite comb-over arranger!

Delila Sun 23-Feb-25 20:19:00

I really think you must be joking Ronib. I can’t take your posts seriously.

Aely Sun 23-Feb-25 20:21:50

The way Trump is attacking women's rights in America, I advise American women to buy a good supply of black material and gauze, as it might be in short supply when the Burka is mandated.

Can’t find anything remotely amusing about this situation but each to their own.

boheminan Sun 23-Feb-25 20:34:10

Aely or maybe scarlet robes with long wide sleeves and white bonnets with very large brims?

imaround Sun 23-Feb-25 20:37:35

Trump has violated our 1st Amendment, 5th Amendment, 10th Amendment and 14th Amedment rights. The majority of his actions have been illegal.

What rights are you (general you not one person) are willing to give away?

This is not just a difference of politics. This is a difference in beliefs about human rights.

Frankly, I have no time for anyone who continues to insert themselves in conversations they have repeatedly said they do not want to be a part of, especially when that person accuses me of whining and not being accurate.

I have learned in the last 10 years in Trumps America that there are some people that simply refuses to see the truth. It is not worth my time, or anyone else's, to engage because they are not engaging in good faith discussions.

imaround Sun 23-Feb-25 20:38:26

In my opinion.

Seconded!

Elegran Sun 23-Feb-25 21:02:38

Apparently, DOGE Has Gained Access To The Top U.S. Cybersecurity Agency. That is, I suppose, his whizz-kid coders have gained acesss to the top US security agency.

Now why do I think that they were planning this from the start? He gave advance warning that he was going to "audit" Govenment departments, and that he was going into Fort Knox "to see whether the gold is still there" so the media publicised those incursions, and everyone was up in arms about them, but I hadn't heard a word about accessing the security agency. I bet most US citizens hadn't heard about it either.

What I have heard is that the money to run the country will run out on 14 March, and there is a rumour that he will dissolve the government because of that emergency and take sole charge. I don't know whether that is true, but it would not surprise me in the least.

Elegran Sun 23-Feb-25 21:08:55

By which I mean that the "audit" and the Fort Knox visit could be a distraction while Trusk nobbles national security and closes down Congress. In case I find myself in Alcatraz for suggesting such a thing, I will add that it is possible that this is a complete misreading of their motives.

MaizieD Sun 23-Feb-25 21:09:42

@*imaround*, I echo the last couple of posters. Keep posting.

A UK lawyer blogger I’ve followed for a few years has pointed out that the authority Trump has taken upon himself is utterly unconstitutional (as I’m sure you are well aware).

The lawyer suggests that US citizens have deep respect for the constitution and that Trump’s violation of it will be more likely to stir them to serious action than any if the other things he is doing. Do you think that is true?

imaround Sun 23-Feb-25 21:10:08

Please remember that only 29.9% of Americans voted for Trump. There was not a majority of Americans. In fact, more people voted for Harris amd Green combined then for Trump.

Almost 60% of people did not vote at all.

Republicans spent most of 2024 purging voter rolls. Millions of people were disenfranchised and Trump has said he plans to force all states to allow only in person, same day voting.

There are rumors thay Musk hacked voting machines in swing states. I have not given much credence to that, but if it is ever proven I would not be surprised.

The SAVE Act will also cause problems for married women who want to vote.

It is all a game to them and they do not play by the rules.

Trump said yesterday that he has a big surprise for the 2026 midterms and after that, there will be no more blue states.

imaround Sun 23-Feb-25 21:19:28

Oh yes. Us Americans are annoyingly stubborn about our Constitution. What is even more iron ic is that most of MAGA take great offense at the thought of the US having a King.

We are witnessing the start of the resistance and more and more MAGA are seeing the truth.

Obviously, there will always be some that will support him no matter what, but I have found that those people do so because they want someone to make it OK to be racist and homophobic. Trump makes it ok to hate people who are different unfortunately.

The government is funded through March 14th. That will be the next battle. Historically, he would not have gotten his budget passed because the Tea Party Republicans wouldn't allow an increase in the debt ceiling. However, Representatives in the House have been receiving death threats and Musk threatens to primary them out by funding opponents.

Imaround, please keep posting. I can only speak for myself, but I find your posts informative. My daughter in Illinois is not keen on discussing all these unsettling news with me, probably sticking her head in the sand.

imaround Sun 23-Feb-25 21:46:55

It is extremely overwhelming LisaAN. I find myself having to turn it off at times, just to maintain some semblance of peace.

This constant attack on democracy is by design. Steve Bannon is the one who suggested this shock and awe technique we are seeing, though Bannon and Musk are at odds so Bannon no longer holds the close position with Trump that he used to.

On a side note, Bannon will be here in Colorado soon and we plan to make him feel an unwelcome as possible, especially after his "salute" at CPAC earlier this week.

This method is meant for people to become so overwhelmed that they keep their heads down and not fight back. Plus, she may not want to worry you!

Illinois, like Colorado, is a good place to be right now. I actually have more faith in Gov Pritzker then I do Gov Polis right now. Polis is term limited though, so he can play both sides I suppose.
