The other filled up very swiftly - so I assume a need for it’s continuation.

Elon plans to use AI to read the emails.

Hegseth is sending 3,000 more soldiers to the Mexico border, along with Stryker combat vehicles.

I think they may be planning to invade Mexico to be honest.

Wyllow3 Sat 01-Mar-25 18:27:00

I wondered how much they were using the military on the border, how else to keep the numbers up for that substantial length - but the ??? there is just how many military would need to be permanently stationed on the border and the consequences of that.

Given what Musk and friends are posting how the UK has an evil "big brother" society its disingenuous to say the least: how can AI judge productivity or whatever? I suppose if. a person says "I wrote a report on Y" it can then check the persons computer".

And now DOGE have access to many more peoples most private details...

They don’t want Mexico though do they? Maybe it’s for greatly enhanced border control - shoot on sight or similar, God forbid.

Please God don’t let’s ever normalise what is happening in the US, keep the shock and outrage going.
Imaround and Syracute keep on doing what you are doing.
Despite the terrible humiliation Zelensky suffered publicly at the hands of Trump and Vance he has now backed down and is saying that he realises how much the US has done for Ukraine blah blah, this is how it works, people stand up to a fascist bully like Trump then less than 24 hours later dilute their own discontent and appear apologetic.
Is so sickening and equates with how we now have normalised what is happening in Gaza.
Sometimes I feel my skin crawl when I look at what is happening in the world today.

Invading Mexico is not a new idea. Trump first came up with it in 2020.

Here is a 2023 article discussing it. It may have a paywall, sorry.

So in Kansas, the elected officials fled his town hall after getting negative feedback.

In response to pushback, top officials have suggested that Republicans simply stop holding town halls.

So pleased to see that Zelensky has been granted a meeting with King Charles tomorrow. Trump will be spitting out his dummy!

Well if Zelensky doesn’t wear a suit I doubt that Charles will bat an eye, despite the Royals being sticklers for the correct etiquette etc. Being publicly rude is not their forte.

Wyllow3 Sat 01-Mar-25 22:00:24

Guess is Charles will "dress down".

Lovetopaint037 Sun 02-Mar-25 08:03:22

The question to be answered is “What is Trump Doing?”.
That’s easy to answer - he is working for Russia.

Inviting Zelensky to meet him sends a message to Trump that Charles is non partisan, and therefore diminishes the significance of his own invitation. Well done the king.

I agree Casdon . I'm not a fan of the Royal Family, but agree absolutely that they're our ace in the pack when dealing with people like Mr Trump.
King Charles will show Mr Zelensky courtesy and respect I imagine. Hopefully, Mr Trump will find this infuriating.

After the bullying at the White House, Vance set out for the ski slopes of Vermont.

This was his reception: (demonstrators line the streets with home made placards)

I think we have to find a way of accepting that he will not care.

As long as he is centre stage and being talked about - good or bad - he will be happy. The Romans gave the population "bread and circuses" Trump isn't bothered about bread, although the Romans believed it help control the population, created a sense of society and, with the entertainment, help create a sense of stability .

Using spectacles however , the leaders could divert attention away from pressing social and political issues, such as economic inequality, corruption, and mismanagement. They can also give people a sense of agency. Voting someone off Love Island (or whatever), writing on GN for or against an MP, etc (at least we rarely vote for their death these days) is just what the Romans did with gladiators, etc.

Trump will not care. We are now distracted from the fact that America, under Trump, is as powerless as the rest of the us but that, unlike Europe, he doesn't intend to change that position.

Chocolatelovinggran Sun 02-Mar-25 12:36:47

Oh Wyllow, thank you for that. I do wonder how non- Trump lovers are faring in his Brave New World.
Well done Vermont.

I’ve seen other huge demonstrations on Facebook but they’re not making the news. I bet Trump is playing golf today. As the leaders of other countries are wearing themselves into the ground trying to mitigate the harm that he and Vance have done to the rest of the world.

Casdon Sun 02-Mar-25 13:39:52

I don’t agree that Trump won’t care PoliticsNerd. One of his strongest character traits is egotism, and he loves the royals (maybe inherited from his mother?). He will care deeply about sharing a privilege with Zelensky.

Wyllow3 Sun 02-Mar-25 14:21:55

I've been checking out CNN and this is a Senate Democrat's reflections on the Zelensky meeting and the apparent "change in the world order". (ie siding with Russia, North Korea, Iran etc on the UN)

It's worth a listen if you can spare the time. 6 mins.

Vance has gone into hiding and Republican legislators have been told not to turn up to public meetings. So far they has only been booing but bullies are so often cowards too.

PoliticsNerd Sun 02-Mar-25 15:21:11

Thanks for the link Willow3. Well done CNN for giving time proper time to put this forward.

The vote at the beginning of the week now seems longer ago!

Yes, there are U tube videos of a whole series of Republican Town Hall meetings with hecklers - presumably some of the thousands threatened who work for government agencies and those who realise medicaid etc to be cut or their families..

keepingquiet Sun 02-Mar-25 15:37:11

I am seeing those too, and subscribing to lots of providers based in Canada and Ukraine.

The Reps are leaving the meetings early. They can't face those who voted them in.

The problem is the Reps thought the voters agreed with their policies, which they did before they realised they were the ones who would be targeted. You can't say even Trump didn't warn them. Trump still has a lot of personal support, a bit like Putin. The people would rather suffer than stand up to be counted...

Democracies need a big kick up the bum- I'm not sure a lot of voters still aren't learning from this...

“Mandelson tells Zelensky: Return to the White House and sign the deal”

Britain’s ambassador to the US calls on Ukrainian leader to sign economic pact to tie Donald Trump into future peace negotiations.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 02-Mar-25 19:37:07

Sadly, what are the London talks going to resolve? The fact is, that Trump and 74% of the Republican Party are not prepared to keep pumping billions of dollars of military aid into Ukraine, when the war is clearly at a stalemate 3 years after it started.

The US supplies around 60% of the total military assistance, so what is Europe going to do to prop up Zelensky? Start a war with Russia?

Like it or not, Zelensky has to make peace with Russia and if that means giving up Territory, then sadly, so be it. As Trump said, he has no cards to play. Peter Mandelson clearly realises this as well, hence his comments.

imaround Sun 02-Mar-25 20:20:39

What territory would you give up to Russia FGT?

I think that since you seem to support the idea that Ukraine give up territory for "peace", you should be willing to give up some in your country too.

So what are you going to be willing to give up when Russia comes knocking at your door?
