The other filled up very swiftly - so I assume a need for it’s continuation.

I started a thread on the recent discussed Ukraine initiatives - sorry for duplicating but thought this thread might lose its overall "keeping tabs" overall.

So does another idiot - John Bolton.

We are on the precipice of republican defection, except Trump and MAGA are threatening those who go against him. We are almost at the point where Republicsns will have to decide if they want to support Trump and be voted out or support voters and be threatened by Trump and Musk.

Either way, lots of these officials will be out of a job in 2026.

For right now, the voters are less scary to them.

Republicans who have spoken out against Trump have been told by the CIA that's there creditable death threats against them. No wonder Trump pardoned violent offenders from January 6th, they're his private army!

Wyllow3 Mon 03-Mar-25 15:27:47

Oh, the land of free speech, where online death threats are permitted!

"‘*It was messy’: Federal workers ordered to return to offices without desks, Wi-Fi and lights* CNN

*Millions of federal workers were ordered to return to offices across the country in recent weeks, marking an end to Covid-era rules allowing more flexibility to work from home.

Many have come back to workplaces that weren’t ready for them.

In one Department of Health and Human Services office, there was no Wi-Fi or full electricity in the first hours when people returned last week.*

Yes, millions

The chaos. the expense the utter lack of planning

"The problems, confusion and slipups that federal employees told CNN they’ve encountered returning to the office have only added to the chaos inside the workforce six weeks into a Trump administration determined to slash the size and scope of the federal government.

Some federal workers being told to return to the office have no space to return to. At least two office buildings used by the Interior Department in the Western US were told last week their leases had been canceled, according to a source familiar with the matter — while a third office housing hundreds of people was notified its lease will be up in June.

One source said the General Services Administration, which manages federal buildings, did not appear to coordinate the lease terminations with Interior officials, leaving employees unclear of what to do.

An Interior spokesperson said the department was “working with GSA to ensure facilities or alternative options will be available” for employees".

and in the middle of this, they are being ordered to submit weekly bullitpoint emails of what they have been doing!

Well, he has started a trade war with Mexico and Canada.

Our stock market is in a free fall today.

He now says that schools will lose funding if they allow protests on campus.

And China.
All of whom will now inflict crippling tariffs on the U.S.
Like Trudeau said ‘is dumb’.

foxie48 Tue 04-Mar-25 19:41:20

I was very impressed by Trudeau's speech available on CNN, it is well worth watching. Also there is a piece in today's Washington Post that explains simply why these tariffs are against the interest of the US. I think countries need to stand their ground and be brave in the face of bullies, whether they come from the US or Russia!

foxie48 Tue 04-Mar-25 19:44:31

I should add that much of the peace that we have had since WW2 has been based on a moral basis of not letting big countries with big economies bully smaller countries with smaller economies and we do that by sticking together. Trump is challenging that and we need to fight back by strengthening the bonds we have with our allies, not by giving in to tyranny.

Wyllow3 Tue 04-Mar-25 19:44:38

Isnt he just! Great speech.( I hope Ontario do cut off energy supplies from the USA).

Yes, I noticed the freefall in stock markets imaround and also costs to the consumer.

Babs03 Tue 04-Mar-25 19:45:19

Yes check the cnn link on my post for the speech. As you say well worth listening to.
Are leaders like Starmer, Macron, and Trudeau all talking like grown ups, whilst Trump makes the noise of a blunt object hitting a tin can.

Aely Wed 05-Mar-25 18:55:40

I'm so disappointed that Trunp has stopped not only materials to the Ukraine but has also cut access to intelligence. No longer can the citizens receive phone alerts if an incoming missile is detected, nor can the soldiers get information on Russian troops. Many existing munitions cannot be used without the now withdrawn satellite communication. This is disgraceful. Trump will be directly responsible for many deaths. He should be prosecuted, not given the Nobel Peace Prize he so desires.

foxie48 Wed 05-Mar-25 19:13:31

He's enabling Russia to bomb cities and kill civilians. The man is an absolute disgrace.

LizzieDrip Wed 05-Mar-25 19:17:54

I heard this described by a political commentator today as a humanitarian disastersad

Long live Ukraine🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦

Elegran Wed 05-Mar-25 19:26:11

Aely I think he has blown his chances of getting a Nobel Peace Prize.

Casdon Wed 05-Mar-25 19:35:05

This one is hard to countenance.

Wyllow3 Wed 05-Mar-25 21:38:54

So it is. You'd think Veterans would be a high priority for the US.

Struggling veterans will also be affected by the projected 830.000.000 dollar cuts to medicaid.

People power at work here too - a boycott thats working

and of course there is Vance and family having Vermont early because he was fed up of peaceful Ukraine protesters

Wyllow3 Wed 05-Mar-25 21:39:26

leaving Vermont early.

Wyllow3 Wed 05-Mar-25 21:41:16

something that shocked me as it resembles Hitlers list of "undesirables" so closely - this is from the CNN fact check on Trumps speech.

"Migrants coming from mental institutions: Trump repeated his familiar claim Tuesday night about how other countries have supposedly released people from their “mental institutions and insane asylums” into the US as migrants. There is no evidence for the president’s claim, which Trump’s own presidential campaign was unable to corroborate. (The campaign was unable to provide any evidence even for his narrower claim that South American countries in particular were emptying their mental health facilities to somehow dump patients upon the US.)
