One of the many organisations where people are being fired at a moment's notice is the National Park Service. Their FB page comments is full of posts from people either fired at a moment's notice or scared stiff because they are expecting to be at any moment. anyone with less than 2 years service is known as a "probationer" and is fair game. Posts include advice to download as much of your personal file as you can - performance reviews, pay facts, interactions with collegues and siperiors - while you can, printing it out because emails could be blocked, and if it goes to litigation you may need all the facts.

People in other organisations in the line of fire will be feeling the same and hurriedly trying to salvage what they can of their working history.

There are/will be a lot of protests on Presidents' Day at noon - though they probably won't be mentioned on mainstream media. Federal workers incensed by performance language in termination letters

"Termination letters shared by a U.S. Department of Education employee, a U.S. Department of Agriculture employee, a Natural Resources Conservation Service worker and four workers for the U.S. Forest Service all state that probationary employees must demonstrate why it’s in “the public interest for the Government to finalize their appointment to the civil service.”

“The Agency finds, based on your performance, that you have not demonstrated that your further employment at the Agency would be in the public interest,” the letters continue. The workers interviewed by USA TODAY said they had good performance records.

An employee with the U.S. Department of Transportation also shared a termination letter with nearly identical language. A letter sent by the Small Business Administration to a fired probationary employee has different language but still mentions performance.

“You have failed to demonstrate fitness for continued federal employment,” the SBA letter reads. “The Agency finds that you are not fit for continued employment because your ability, knowledge and skills do not fit the Agency’s current needs, and your performance has not been adequate to justify further employment at the Agency.”

Fired U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs data scientist Elena Moseyko was incensed to see that her termination letter mentioned her performance. Moseyko said she has “an excellent performance record” and plans to challenge her dismissal.

“This was an illegal termination,” Moseyko said, adding: “They terminated thousands of people, and thousands of people cannot possibly all have bad performance. It’s not possible. So basically this is illegal.”

Chris Johnson, who was fired from his job in Arizona with the Natural Resources Conservation Service, believes that highlighting his performance in the letter gives him grounds to challenge his termination because he can point to successful performance reviews.

“To me, that gives me legal grounds to appeal," he said."

it carries an astonishing amount of private individual's information that to date has been highly protected even from other employees of the Internal Revenue (also explained below- and Musk wants the lot.

The protocols are quite strict, preventing IRS employees from accessing their own files or files belonging to spouses, friends, relatives, co-workers or anyone with whom they have personal relationships or business dealings.

The IRS also prohibits snooping employees from accessing tax account information to satisfy personal curiosities.

It wad an amazing turnout. Several thousand people turned out despite it being only 30F here today.

There was not a single media station there. Absolutely no coverage of the protests. Which means they aren't going to be effective.

I left feeling rather discouraged to be honest. I am not sure we can stop what is happening. Our last hope is the judiciary, because Congress and the Media have failed us.

Stay strong imaround. The news outlets could just as easily turn on Trump as the news of the outcomes of their actions grows. Remember you have a large number on GN rooting for democracy but even larger numbers in the UK abd around the world.

We will have our ups and downs, I am sure. I am taking the night off and getting some sleep. Tomorrow will bring new confidence!

I am seeing some news footage tonight from around the country. We had a minor medical emergency with my son tonight, so I was able to get some perspective.
