Stiff, I understand you may not support Starmer’s direction of travel in some policies. Are you saying you also don’t support the decision to improve our defence and work constructively with allies to protect Ukraine (and end the war)

I have no doubt that Zelenskyy’s statement this afternoon, was drawn up over the weekend with Starmer’s and others help. I noticed Zelenskyy contacted Starmer earlier this afternoon - probably to run the final draft past him.

I have two very close friends whose sons are both in the armed forces, both following in the footsteps of their fathers.

Anyone joining up knows very well that at some point they may be deployed to fight or peace keep.

It’s not that they want their family dead, but they all understand what they’ve signed up for

I don’t know what you mean? He has done what any Prime Minister should do in the circumstances. I believe he has done what Sunak would have done too. However, he hasn’t done what Truss or Johnson, who would describe themselves as true Conservatives, would have done.

As for farmers, yes I have some empathy for them, but never really understood why their farms were completely exempt from inheritance tax. Personally, I’d get rid of it completely.

Those with livestock on smaller farms have been in financial crisis for many years.

Nobody is blaming Americans for Trump, gmarie. The past 8 months have been the first time in ages that I haven't felt embarrassed by the representatives of the UK, so I know how you feel, though.

Re farmers (although what they have to do with this I don't know) I think a fair solution would be to let them pass on farms that are going to remain in the family (and be worked) free of IHT, but when they are sold or used as anything other than farming they should be charged the same IHT as other property.

As regards the armed forces, it seems to me that KS is doing his level best to reduce the likelihood of war. A peacekeeping force is exactly the sort of thing that soldiers train for - again to lessen the chances of an all-out conflict developing.

Starmer isn’t for everyone but please criticise based in reality. The Saville thing is nonsense.
Starmer is credited by Nazir Afzal as having changed the CPS thus allowing successful prosecutions of the grooming gangs.

Plus, Starmer’s plans to enhance our defence is long overdue. It will create work as well as keep us safe.

Of course not. but we are involved in NATO, and are increasing our defence forces, and that means sometimes our armed forces get involved in wars.

Reading the long Zelensky statement I'm sure that this is the kind of way that Starmer can be effective - trying to keep bridges open in dreadful times.

Farmers should be ashamed of themselves IMO.

The country is virtually on a war footing yet they still maintain their selfish right to exceptionalism with regard to IHT.

Stop being so greedy and do your bit for your country, farmers … as we all have to!
