I was very encouraged by his speech. The Democrats reacted like sulky children.

Food prices are important. It seems to be one of the reasons Trump was successful.

Not for long.
Wait until the trade wars bite.
Ordinary Americans have no idea how this will impact upon their cost of living.

What Babs03 says and more. Forget the future, Trump's action on fossil fuels means all the world will suffer.
But Trump doesn't know of anything outside the USA except for his golf courses.
Never mind aid, no-one has any knowledge of Lethoso :-(

Indeed. And spelling

Ah, that’s how the OP spelt their user name wrong.
There should be an S where there’s a T. Far more apt.

You really think it’s OK to have transgender men in women’s sport? How can you possibly support this? We need the Republicans to bring back COMMENCE SENSE

One tiny thing POTUS has done, which could be seen as positive amongst all the damage?

Some really are scraping the barrel.

If the success of a President is based on who is eligible to take part in women's sport then the world is doomed! For the record I don't agree with men or women who transition taking part in sport against men or women who have not transitioned. I also deplore Trump and disagree with most of his political agenda but even Trump will get some things right.

Bird flu resulted in culling of birds and high prices under Biden. Don’t see how that could have been avoided?
Food prices become important.

True, but I don't think you can blame Biden for bird flu!

However, having campaigned (a lot) on the price of eggs, Vance hasn't mentioned them for weeks!
grin

What were you encouraged by exactly?

silverlining48 Wed 05-Mar-25 08:17:05

Artols you won’t find much support for Trump this side of the pond.
As for his ‘inspiring’ speech, words fail.
He is probably one of the most inarticulate politicians I have ever heard.
The world feels more dangerous than it’s been since the cold war and the richest country is now run by this man and honestly, it’s frightening.

Babs03 Wed 05-Mar-25 08:17:36

I imagine Trump’s verbal vomit about getting rid of diversity in the workplace meaning ethnic minorities/blacks/ or women would no longer get a chance of a job if competing alongside whites went down well with Trump cheerleaders.

Babs03 Wed 05-Mar-25 08:18:29

Correction should have said alongside whites or men

Babs03 Wed 05-Mar-25 08:19:17

And please don’t pretend this is based on merit when we all know about Trump’s alt right credentials.

If we are looking at women's rights, for the small number of women who take part in high level sports, then, I agree, there has been a positive change.
For all women of reproductive age, there has been a huge removal of their rights over their bodies regarding contraception and termination of pregnancy.
I understand that there has been an increase in the numbers of women dying of sepsis, following an incomplete miscarriage.
In Britain, a miscarriage can be completed medically once it is established that there is no chance of survival for the foetus.
The rules in some states in the USA is that any procedure must wait until it is confirmed that there is no heartbeat. This exposes the open channel to the uterus to the risk of sepsis.
But hey - at least the recovering woman ( if she lives) can play sport: and no men are damaged by these rules, which might be seen as the most important part.

I know I shouldn't have commented on Artols poor spelling but I was just so incensed by the comments made.
Thousands will starve and die as a direct result of that monster's shocking decisions. What kind of a human could rejoice in his pronouncements? Certainly not one I'd ever wish to know.

Indeed. In fact it is pathetic to shout about what Trump plans to do regarding men in women's sports (which I agree with) whilst most of his other policies put the rest of us in financial, economic and physical danger. Even deranged men like Trump get some things right. I believe that the trains ran on time under Hitler.

Inspiring speech from Trump to Congress gringrin one hour and 40 minutes!!! He really does love the sound of his own voice doesn't he.

Anyone else seen ‘Captain America Brave New World’? Too close to the reality of now to be enjoyable for me.

Mr Trump is enjoying throwing stones into ponds and seeing how big the ripples are. I just wish we could ignore him as we would any other irritating show off, but his position as POTUS is too powerful for that.

Believe me I have to bite my tongue when replying to this. We have family in NYC who feel completely devastated by the actions of this modern day Mussolini, as do other US contributors on here, imaround and Syracute.
But of course Trump has supporters, he plays to peoples prejudices and fears. Am just wondering how long that will last though once they are hit in the wallet. Not very long I would imagine.

sf101 Wed 05-Mar-25 08:48:44

I find it very interesting that despite everything the left threw at Trump it did not stop him winning across the board.
The trouble with the democrats and their media is they underestimate the silent majority at their peril.

Actually, you beat me to it! I would not usually comment on or correct a poster's spelling, but Artols provocative post brings out the pedant in me.

Oh, OP. I’m impressed by what I read of the Democrats’ response given by Elissa Slotkin. Nothing sulky or childish about her.

Transgender men in women's sport or big powerful countries invading smaller countries. Hard to decide which is the bigger issue - well no it isn't hard at all.

Er.....commenCe sense? And in upper case too.

Please don't shout.

Parsley3 Wed 05-Mar-25 09:08:36

I heard a bit of the speech on the radio and I thought that the president's voice was sounding weak but perhaps the long speech was taking its toll. Still, he has Vance ready and waiting to do the heavy lifting in interviews etc.

foxie48 Wed 05-Mar-25 09:12:22

theworriedwell Good point, this complete turnaround in world order is not just sad it is completely destabilising and will lead to more unprovoked aggression if countries think they can get away with it. How dare he call Trudeau a "governor" and say they'll get Greenland one way or another because the US needs it?
What is also sad is seeing the POTUS creating stronger divisions between his own citizens. There's absolutely no attempt to bring a very divided society together because it doesn't suit him and his purpose. It is beyond disgraceful it is a dereliction of duty this is part of the oath signed by all presidents:
“I, _______, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will administer justice without respect to persons, and do equal right to the poor and to the rich, and that I will faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon me as _____ under the Constitution and laws of the United States;

Hear hear👏👏👏

Donald Trump doesn’t give a sh** about women’s rights! If the OP can’t see that, then she’s too far down the rabbit hole to ever return.

I hope she (or he) doesn’t have daughters or grand daughters of reproductive age - if so, God help them.

The transgender sport issue is about a tiny percentage of people; the reproductive rights issue impacts millions of women.
