It’s more the younger generation that are the problem here, the ones who cite MH as the reason they can’t work. There are a ridiculously huge amount of them now, not working, not in school and not in further education.

Rather than hijacking the thread with musings, could you post the article ronib as it sounds like you know what mael3 is referring to, then we can discuss what it says?

But is the benefits unsustainable in the long term? What do you suggest the long term disabled do?
I would much rather spend £3 billion a year on our disabled population rather than send it to Ukraine for the next 100 years.

I don’t understand the OP
The Guardian isn’t the paper it was and hasn’t supported Labour in a long while.
Owen Jones is much admired by the paper with his anti Labour/anti women views.

I’m surprised the OP isn’t pushing the LP to go hard on reducing the benefit bill which is unsustainable

What ‘truth’ is this? Is it just another libellous rant, or is there a story? I’m not a fan of the Guardian these days, but I find them much more coherent than the OP.

Has Reeves been found guilty of ‘robbing’? That would be a story, but there’s nothing in the post to explain or justify the accusation.

What’s ’the old one’, and how is it worn out?

When are workhouses coming back, and how will they operate? Are they just for pensioners and the disabled, or can anyone apply?

What is different about donors to the Labour Party, as compared to the Tory ones? Are they operating outside of the regulations, or is that a non-story too?

Answers to those questions might help us to decipher the OP.

That headline isn’t in the Guardian? Please post the article you are talking about mael13 so that you don’t just get random posts on this thread from people who haven’t read whichever article you ate talking about.

Let’s hope it continues to Freya5… hadn’t noticed such anti Labour sentiment before.

I was replying to nanna8

A bad look maybe, to drop her so soon?

Maybe he doesnt have a "suitable" replacement?

I am always surprised, in things I have volunteered for, how few people there are who will tackle any sort of accounts.
Maybe the same can be said of MPs?

Freya5 Mon 17-Mar-25 07:28:34

ronib

The Guardian is definitely off Labour today.

Just telling the truth.

nanna8 Mon 17-Mar-25 07:18:55

I don’t understand why Starmer doesn’t ditch her. She lied on her CV, she has upset so many people and she is just, well, awful.

ronib Mon 17-Mar-25 07:17:34

It’s news when The Guardian drops Labour …..

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 17-Mar-25 07:02:32

Obviously mael3 isn’t a Labour supporter!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 17-Mar-25 06:56:31

If we do enter into a recession or if her Spring Budget fails to produce growth I wonder whether Keir Starmer might appoint someone else?

ronib Mon 17-Mar-25 06:51:39

The Guardian is definitely off Labour today.

Wyllow3 Mon 17-Mar-25 01:15:27

Eh?

mae13 Mon 17-Mar-25 01:12:47

Well, according to today's Guardian. The fact is that she's worn out the old one about the "22 billion black hole" (show us the maths Rachel!).

Obviously, State Pensioners and anyone on Disability Benefits is not expected to be included in this "boosting growth".......back to The Workhouse for them, whilst rich political donors pile freebies onto the "already haves"......
