I’ve just read that this jockey has filed for bankruptcy. He’s earned £152M for Owners (gets a percentage) and personally was valued at £18M. How on Earth does someone overspend to that extent, or do they simply take their eye off the ball and let finances just run riot?

I remember Party Pieces being taken over by some guy GG13. It was in the news. I wonder how he’s doing?

Administration, liquidation, bankruptcy? 🤷‍♀️

professional people in any sphere have to rely on their accountants and tax advisors - just because you are a brilliant jockey/footballer/restaurateur or whatever does not mean you suddenly become a financial wizard - their lives are very very busy and putting your faith in the hands of agents etc is often the cause of disaster. The earlier remark about his 'horsey friends helping out' is childish, snarky and unhelpful.

Any advice he was given about a tax avoidance scheme which wasn’t one approved by HMRC would have been couched with warnings that it might not work (so the adviser couldn’t be sued) so he would have known he was taking a gamble.

He’s not the nicest of people. His cheeky happy persona is a bit of a facade. When he did his farewell tour of British racecourses he charged even the small tracks appearance money, knowing full well that he wasn’t actually retiring but going to ride in America.

Liquidation aims to close a company and Administration aims to rescue a company.
Bankruptcy is different, it is for people who cannot pay their debts and there are different forms of bankruptcy.

It's very wrong to accuse people of being bankrupt when they are not.
