Well, he has done it with a system.

And with none of his usual whims or tantrums.

And to be fair to him, other Countries already had tariffs in place against the US. He is playing catch up.

If it's a "system" it's a foolish one as it has set a tariff for an island where the only population is penguins and another where the only population is an American base. He has also given a different tariff to two islands that are actually part of France and therefore part of EU.

Finesse is never his strong point!

And I query sometimes his, I assume sort of, civil servants over there[are they the ones Musk is/was trying to sort?]

Having stricter regulations about the ethics of countries you deal with might have a more beneficial impact on both overseas workers rights than tariffs.

If people can't import shoddy, cheap rubbish (made on the backs of the misery of others) then industries at home would benefit from a more equal footing. It would me it more a race to the top than a phoney trade war based on tariffs.

When Donald introduced his tariffs Bamford didn't think, well, I'm British, I'm nearly 80 and rich as Croesus. My car collection alone is worth over £260 million. I was handed this business by my father so I've been very lucky. On top of that I've got the whole Daylesford thing and other businesses going on.

Did he think Britain has been good to me, I'm a knight of the realm and here's my chance to give something back? I could use my billions and knowledge of the industry to really go all out and invest in Britain. Provide jobs, set up training schemes, put my vast wealth into this country.

Nope. He expands his business in America in order to make maximum profit and uses aggressive measures to avoid paying tax in the UK (for which he is under investigation).

You can see why Brexit and Trump might suit this Conservative donor. Create division and chaos, disrupt the lives of the little people, reap billions in profit. Rees-Mogg's father wrote a book telling people exactly how to do this.
