Disgraced comedian charged with oral rape and sexual assault following Metropolitan Police investigation.

No wonder in the interim he ‘found religion’.

Horrible man, sleazy at best. Full of himself.

Just couldn’t stand him - is he the one with the wild hair and related in sone way to that lovely ‘Manuel’ from Fawlty Towers ? Apologies if I’ve got it all wrong ….

Jaxjacky Fri 04-Apr-25 14:52:44

Some years ago my Mum would’ve said ‘gives me the willies’ probably not appropriate now - but that’s how I feel about him

Allira Fri 04-Apr-25 14:54:13

Five counts, relating to four different women.

He's a disgusting, arrogant specimen.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 04-Apr-25 14:58:44

He was informed by post apparently. The Met Police have released an email contact address for anyone with ‘further information’ they wish to give.

No, he is not related to Andrew Sachs at all.

He, and the equally revolting Jonathan Ross, were accused of making prank calls to Andrew Sachs, leaving lewd messages and vile comments about Andrew Sachs's granddaughter, with whom Brand was (inexplicably) having a relationship.

He's not related, but the connection is that Brand had slept with Andrew Sachs' granddaughter and phoned him about it.

I remember when the allegations were first made about Brand, and how many people on here insisted that the women were out for what they could get, because he is famous and they were too scared to speak up at the time of the assaults. I hope Brand gets his comeuppance, and that the whole sorry story serves to encourage women to take no notice of the sniping and come forward when they are assaulted by people like him.

Another one hiding in plain sight, yes the one humiliating ‘Manuel’ and his grandaughter
Let’s hope the decision to prosecute leads to convictions

Doodledog Fri 04-Apr-25 15:01:44

Sorry, Allira - cross-posted.

Anniebach Fri 04-Apr-25 15:03:00

So he is guilty , end of

Allira Fri 04-Apr-25 15:03:49

That's fine, Doodledog, it's worth repeating.

I hope justice catches up with him.

AGAA4 Fri 04-Apr-25 15:05:38

So many vile men allowed into our living rooms via TV. Brand is someone I quickly turned off.

Anniebach, are you saying we shouldn’t be discussing this further?

Your comment sounds a little aggressive.

Anniebach Fri 04-Apr-25 15:24:46

Not aggressive, my need for facts, need for court records , I think probably guilty but I do not know

The disgraced comedian will appear at Westminster magistrates’ court on May 2.

The Telegraph understands that Brand, 49, has not been arrested and was informed through legal documents sent in the post that he had been charged with the offences. He is currently on bail awaiting his first appearance at court.

Detectives began an investigation into Brand in September 2023 after receiving a number of allegations following an investigation by Channel 4’s Dispatches and The Sunday Times newspaper.

Brand is charged with the rape of a woman in 1999 in the Bournemouth area and the oral rape and sexual assault of a woman in 2004 in the Westminster area of London.

He has also been charged with indecently assaulting a woman in 2001 and sexually assaulting another woman between 2004 and 2005 – both alleged to have taken place in Westminster, London.

He has now been charged after months if not years of speculation.

He will have his day in court as will his accusers, it is up to the jury to decide whether or not he is guilty.

Calendargirl Fri 04-Apr-25 15:31:18

I’ve always thought him awful.

We have to be careful how it is discussed on social media because it could be prejudicial to trial proceedings.

Heaven forbid that a trial could be thrown out because of chat on Gransnet!

Justice must be seen to be done.

merlotgran Fri 04-Apr-25 16:38:26

Good job I haven’t commented then. 🤐

Doodledog Fri 04-Apr-25 16:48:22

I am not a lawyer, but my understanding is that mentioning what we have read or viewed in the media is unlikely to be deemed prejudicial to a case, as the jury is very likely to have seen the same reports and they are in the public domain. In any case, TV channels and most MSM will have had lawyers scrutinise all aspects of what they have said, and will be certain that it would stand up in court.

If someone knew a victim and gave information that is not in the public domain, it would be different, as would someone saying things that have not been previously published (good or bad) about the defendant.

Maybe a lawyer could confirm, though?

Sago Fri 04-Apr-25 17:04:38

I am very surprised Bear Grylls became involved with him.
I wonder if he will distance himself if Brand is found guilty.

This, he is a vile and revolting but it is up to the jury to decide if he is guilty of what he is charged with.

OldFrill Fri 04-Apr-25 17:56:37

Why are those charged with rape not subject to the same anonymity as the accusers.

Ilovecheese Fri 04-Apr-25 19:32:00

Hmm.. why are those accused of burglary not given the same anonymity as the householders whose stuff has gone missing?

M0nica Fri 04-Apr-25 19:35:02

Anniebach

So he is guilty , end of

He is not guilty until he has had a fair triaal and been convicted by a jury.
