The following he has, a large following, seem to be largely comprised rednecks, those with perhaps lower educational achievements, very right ring church groups, rich old white men and women.

Some of the republican senates seem rather worried.

The POTUS, his close colleagues and his most radical followers are very very dangerous, deluded, frankly quite mad people!

I read this morning that Trump is reopening Alcaraz Prison 😳

NanKate- Hmm .. I read this, too. Alcatraz has been a tourist attraction for many years. It would cost a huge sum of money to return it to a prison: but I suppose with the projected drop in tourism, a POTUS has to do what a POTUS has to do.

Regarding the film industry in the US, did I not read that Mr Trump's appointees are charged with encouraging the production of more wholesome films, promoting certain values- perhaps like the Hallmark products for the Christmas market?
I can't see these causing queues at our local cinema.

After seeing that vile video that he proudly showed when he made his 100 day speech of prisoners having their heads shaved ( prisoners who were probably innocent anyway) it wouldn’t surprise me if he turned Alcatraz back into a prison but still used it as a tourist attractions, the way Bedlam used to have paying visitors. Nothing that this man does can surprise me any more.

Yes I read of the 100% tariff on "foreign films" (try defining that when they are funded multinationally).

Watch out, next it will be only "patriotic films" allowed.

I'd make him watch series of "The West Wing" to see how it should be done.....

According to the BBC, Alcatraz was closed in 1963 (nearly 60 years ago) because it was too expensive to run. Apparently, the US prison population has been reduced by 25% and 'there are lots of empty beds' in existing prisons (as though this was some sort of bizarre hotel service😂)

What would the film tariffss actually be on, I wonder? The price of a Cinema ticket?

I can't see the Patrons being happy if they are priced out of watching, say, the latest James Bond film.

He's employing the art of distraction..things going badly economically? Can't pay your medical bills? Social Security at risk? Pension values cut or the value yo-yo ing up and down...posh and your maid/nanny/gardener from S America has been picked up at night? Your kids school has a curricula

Your library will soon erase your history if you are black or a woman who has lost health rights, your kids' school has a curriculum to match - heaven forfend if an opposing political view creeps in, it's clearly "Communist".....

There was a response on Front Row (R4 Arts programme) on the Trump 100% tariff on foreign films. It will affect our industry but its more complicated - a lot of US companies now make their films in the UK - how does that work out.

But it was reported that it has hit the US film industry out of the blue. No consultations with the big studios at all. They are not in favour of the tariffs, they regard it as unhelpful and even making matters worse and unclear as regards joint productions..

They are seeking meetings with the Trump administration - they feel other things like tax breaks would be extremely effective.

It beggars belief that Trumps administration didnt consult the industry itself.

It appears that Jon Voight, a Trump supporter/speaker was behind it

I can't begin to tell you how many issues there are with Air Traffic Controllers right now. Planes clapping each other. Entire airports being shut down.
