The last post was from imaround telling us what books have been banned from a Naval Library:

"Over 300 books banned at the US Naval Academy.

Yes not a bit surprised.

Now apparently beginning to turn their attention to women and their productive system and how to encourage them to have more children😡

Trump paying tribute to the Pope, who had died, while standing next to a huge Easter bunny - honestly!!

What Vance said to the Pope the day before he died.
"I know you've not been feeling great, but it's good see you in better health.”

Whitewavemark2 Tue 22-Apr-25 09:46:10

Vacuous comments.

Wyllow3 Tue 22-Apr-25 12:11:24

unbelievable

this was when he gave his tribute

foxie48 Tue 22-Apr-25 12:25:59

Pity he didn't make the bunny his VP!

Wheniwasyourage Tue 22-Apr-25 12:52:09

Don't be silly, foxie48 - the bunny is far too intelligent to be given a place among that shower. It would show them all up. grin

"Trump told reporters he wasn't sure whether he would attend the pope's upcoming funeral. "I just have to look at the timing," he said"

the egg roll at the Whitehouse dominated the news. "Despite above-normal prices for eggs sparked by a bird flu outbreak, the White House Easter egg roll used real eggs donated by the American Egg Board."

"In a new controversial twist that has raised ethics concerns, the 2025 egg roll is the first iteration of the tradition to be open to corporate sponsorships. Proceeds from companies that paid for their names to be attached to the event benefit the nonprofit White House Historical Association, the lead organizer of the egg roll."

"Companies can pay $75,000, $125,000 or $200,000 to be sponsors for the April 21 holiday event in exchange for branding visibility, access opportunities and media exposure, according to a nine-page guide for potential sponsors

and just one sentence as to actual easter....

""Easter is special, and it's one of our favorite days. It's one of our favorite periods of time. We're honoring Jesus Christ," Trump said. "We're bringing religion back in America. We're bringing a lot of things back, but religion is coming back to America. That's why you see the kind of numbers that you see."

JamesandJon33 Tue 22-Apr-25 13:34:55

What? You couldn’t make it up could you?

Not obvious who he is honouring or if religion ever left.

He just talks to hear himself speak, imo.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 22-Apr-25 15:46:35

Moving away from Easter …

Remember when Elizabeth Warren was saying the same things to the US Fed about lowering rates to help Harris during the election? They said nothing. Why, because this is all political!

Shaking my head in despair.

Was the Bishop of Washington listening to this drivel, I wonder?

imaround Tue 22-Apr-25 17:32:06

FGT As hard as you try to make this about anyone but Trump, those 3 situations are not comparable because of Trump's tariffs. Nice try though.

He had corporate sponsors for his Easter gathering for. There is a video floating around of Pete Hegseth spouting off about saving the children and 2 of his kids stood there and rolled thier eyes at him.

Elizabeth Warren, Feb 2025 (I believe) wanted the Fed to move quickly on lowering rates, to stimulate the economy, as 'the right thing to do'.

Said was in The Economist ---

imaround Tue 22-Apr-25 19:32:17

Warren wanted the fed to lower interest rates back in 2022.

Which I guess proves that the fed is neutral politically and not trying to help Dems win elections like FTG maintains.

Re the markets … the Fed got it completely wrong with printing money during the pandemic, caused inflation, then belatedly raised rates once inflation has blown up to around 9%; now the Fed's engaged in a kind of punishment beating of the US economy, keeping rates too high for too long, as if they're trying to say the inflation wasn't their fault. (Like Andrew Bailey did with our BoE). When it very obviously was.

The Fed can see the turbulence of Trump's actions. It has a duty to protect the stability of the US economy and it should do so immediately with rate cuts.

I believe during the pandemic there were several large money payouts being handed round, to keep the economy going and people eating/paying bills. People spent, businesses spent. Thus inflation.

MaizieD Tue 22-Apr-25 22:29:39

People spent, businesses spent. Thus inflation.

Spending doesn’t cause inflation. Shortage of resources available to purchase ‘causes’ inflation as the sellers of the scarce resources increase their prices to what the market will bear. The money governments, rightly, issued directly to support those who would have had no income during the pandemic kept economies afloat.

Can anyone who claims that it caused inflation point to any specific examples?

There seems to be an almost Pavlovian response to the words ‘government money printing’ in the automatic assumption that it will cause inflation. Setting aside the fact that governments rarely ’print money, it’s all done via key strokes on a computer these days (as Elon Musk recently discovered) it requires a specific set of circumstances for government money issuing to cause inflation; the pandemic wasn’t one of them.

imaround Tue 22-Apr-25 23:29:06

It was a almost unheard of set of circumstances, in the US at least. I am less knowledgeable about your recovery.

That was, fiscal policy needed for COVID, an increase of cost of labor, then shortages of goods due to supply chain issues and Russia bombing Ukraine that led to inflation in the US.
If any of these had happened individually, I don't think it would have been as bad.

Jerome Powell led the US to the best recovery in the world, which we could have kept on with if Trump had not instituted tariffs.

That is why these 2 scenarios are different. One was caused by a series of unstoppable global events, the other by a madman who did not listen to any experts.

Tesla is in trouble.

"Elon Musk, Tesla’s chief executive, said on Tuesday that he would spend less time in Washington working for President Trump after the automaker reported a profit drop of 71 percent in the first three months of the year.

Mr. Musk told Wall Street analysts in a conference call that he would continue to spend “a day or two per week” on Washington matters, probably for the duration of Mr. Trump’s presidency. The billionaire executive is one of Mr. Trump’s closest confidants and has played a leading role in the president’s efforts to slash government spending and cut tens of thousands of federal government jobs."

So what will happen to DOGE, imaround ? And the sackings and probes into federal employees?

imaround Wed 23-Apr-25 01:08:01

I have no idea honestly. I was just excited that the boycott was effective. My youngest told meyesterday that boycotts don't really work. I was happy to prove him wrong.

Over in RFK la la land, he is going to create a registry of autistic people.

Remember he is the one who wants people on work farms to cure them.

"Bhattacharya said during a presentation that the data will include medical records from pharmacy chains, lab tests, genomics data from patients treated by the Department of Veterans Affairs and Indian Health Service, claims from private insurers, data from smartwatches and fitness trackers and more."

More and more like the Third Reich isn’t it ? The fourth reich.

imaround Wed 23-Apr-25 02:31:06

100% nanna. The parallels are scary. Even more scary is that the government has all of this information, partly because of DOGE. We cant stop them from doing much IMO.

Access to medical records is illegal. Being illegal has never stopped them.

Texas has already tried to access peoples medical records from other states (Washington I believe) to charge them with "medical crimes".

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 23-Apr-25 08:56:21

Good grief, imaround- what constitutes a "medical crime "?
