I've read the comments saying I sound like a "TRA" you know but that's not true at all. I don't know what I have said that makes anyone think that?

There are some not very nice people on this thread and they do like to pile on if you don’t agree .with them . It’s not a discussion but aggression . I had to take a break because God forbid you dare to express an opposing view .

No, I'm not responsible for hate speech, do people really feel it reasonable to be angry with myself about that when I also denounced hate speech against women?

Doodledog Ha! Well, There doesn't seem to be too many people here that do know trans people no. It's little wonder that the propaganda spread about trans people has such a strong effect when people don't know them I suppose.

That's not what I said. I know transpeople myself - working in education I also come across non-binary and 'gender-fluid' people too - maybe more than in MH settings, I don't know? Or maybe the ones I work with are less 'fragile', so aren't in MH settings?

Not that it matters. I don't see the transpeople I know as representative of anything - why would they be, unless you view friends and colleagues or students as specimens. I just see them as people, who (like the other 99.95% of people) have some things in common and others that separate them from one another.

My point is that - maybe before your time on here? - we used to have a few regular posters who prefaced a lot of their points with 'According to all my trans friends. . .' and similar, which made it seem as though they sought out transpeople to befriend, which is a bit odd, surely? It's one thing to meet transpeople as normal members of society - in the workplace, as neighbours etc, but as the same people also pointed out that the 'fuss' was about a tiny minority of people, it puzzled me how those few people knew so many, unless they made a point of seeking them out. Just an observation, though 🤷‍♀️.

I have no involvement whatsoever and have never said a single word to JK Rowling. No matter who it is you think I sound like.

I'll ask again - what colour is the sky on your planet, Luminance? grin

Luminance Fri 25-Apr-25 20:24:40

I find it all rather irrational. Are we here to argue or discuss?

Doodledog Fri 25-Apr-25 20:26:56

What are you finding irrational?

Nobody, but nobody thinks you have said a word to JKR grin.

Why would you think they might think that? It's comments like that which are irrational. Has anyone ever suggested that thinking everything is about you is bad for your mental health?

Iam64 Fri 25-Apr-25 20:58:15

Syracute, it isn’t a pile on, it’s a discussion. In discussions different views are shared as they are here

Iam64 Fri 25-Apr-25 21:00:40

Luminance I’m trying to understand your posts but finding it increasingly difficult. At first glance I find your faux innocent face inability to give straight comments ‘interesting’

But your statements aren’t a discussion or an argument. They seem more a series of unconnected statements which don’t appear to make sense.
Incidentally, where is the evidence of the accusations you make of people saying you are TRA for example.
Or are your accusations just more light purple prose?

I remain quite unbothered. When people show me who they are I believe them.

Luminance Fri 25-Apr-25 21:25:10

In some circles there are a lot of concerns about how trans men will be impacted by this. According to the ruling they can be excluded from men's facilities or wards. This may mean they are excluded from women's safe spaces too because of their appearance. It may cause all sorts of issues if people see someone who appears male walking into a woman's facilities. How on earth the NHS, refuges and trans men themselves are supposed to overcome that I don't know. A whole section of biological women will not be able to enter safe spaces where their appearance may make other biological women feel uncomfortable. Quite a quandary I feel. How could this be resolved?

Mollygo Fri 25-Apr-25 21:27:04

And your solution?

Luminance Fri 25-Apr-25 21:30:15

As I stated, I don't know. Perhaps we can think of something together?

Carlotta Fri 25-Apr-25 21:32:34

When people show me who they are I believe them.

Now that sounds familiar.......

Water69 Fri 25-Apr-25 21:36:39

This is a question about long distant grand parents. Not sure where to post it. Help please?

Carlotta Fri 25-Apr-25 21:42:19

It's probably best to start a new thread Water69. If you go to Active Discussions, scroll down to Chat or Ask A Gran, click on it and it gives you the option to start a new thread of your own.

Oh yes. So do I. And when I feel I’ve met them before I trust my instincts.

I have this déjà vu feeling.

Rosie51 Fri 25-Apr-25 22:53:08

I had these vague feelings and a good GN friend has helped clear the fog grin Perhaps we can 'all sit together' or is that just 'The Frog Song'? Oops no that was 'we all stand together'.

Iam64 Sat 26-Apr-25 07:55:08

Yes indeed, so many of us recognising we’ve been here before

eazybee Sat 26-Apr-25 08:40:00

Deliberate obfuscation; deja vu indeed.

There are some not very nice people on this thread..... can't stand comments like this Syracute. If you're not prepared to be specific then probably better to say nothing.

Syracute, have you ever thought of yourself as one those not very nice people, when you read your posts?
