“Britain is ‘servant of communist china” says Trump aide Navarro claims. He warns the UK and china against taking doos from china previously designated for the USA. Well, we cont want their plastic tat, but cheaper computers and. Phones?

But Navarro (he is the tariff mister) goes further

“Let’s fact it, the UK has been an all too compliant servant of the Chinese communist party because of the string laden gifts that china gives out”. (?)

The US also fears the UK having closer ties with the EU and warning us if we do.

Well - I’m sorry, Navarro, its been UK policy for some time to have better trading relationships with Europe, and its been US tariff policy thats bringing those trade ties closer!

Is anything being spouted by the Trump administration worth listening to?

Not really. However the fact some influential figures give credence to him and his own citizens belief half the crap he spouts!

Wyllow3 Sun 04-May-25 11:44:34

Unfortunately they have real power in terms of what they actually do tariff wise and are trying to stir up division abroad using this power.

Trump is now using "Communist" against anyone who disagrees with him, evoking the Mc Carthy era. He's trying to get an ideology out abroad for the who support him internationally - and has to be watched

Aveline Sun 04-May-25 12:12:17

I read an interesting article which focused on the American stock exchange. Basically it's a very clear representation of the actual rather than Trump spouted American economy. He has no power over it and can't sack anyone over it. It dips and dives in reaction to his outbursts. It's not going well for him. People put their money where their mouth is ...

Navarro has no credibilty as an economist- take no notice. Only Trump listens to him.

Wyllow3 Sun 04-May-25 13:03:05

Yes - The Radio 4 Saturday 7pm "Profile" slot featured Navarro. He's the man behind tariffs, building into Trumps long term predilection as a businessman for protectionism.

But he's up against considerable critics as the realities on the stock market and price rises grow.

But I guess they are all communists.......

We need to be more aware of China in general says Sir Richard Dearlove, he who was the head of M16. He said this morning on tv that Labour need to be cognisant of the risks. Surely that’s sensible?

Wyllow3 Sun 04-May-25 13:50:32

Yes - but I see no indications we are not sensible.

Why should we agree with a Trump/Narvarro manipulative set of statements of how we are, thank you very much!

Chocolatelovinggran Sun 04-May-25 14:22:40

Golly, that's confusing. Only a couple if weeks ago, Mr Trump's other BFF, Mr Vance, explained that the UK was becoming an Islamic state.
Perhaps we can be both.

Well I’m with Sir Richard Dearlove on this Wyllow.
Most definitely.

Wyllow3 Sun 04-May-25 14:36:05

Now there's a thought 😂😂😂

thankfully, its now looking like the past bessie friend Musk has shut up telling us who we are and what we should do.

FGT - frankly there are enough conspiracy theories floating around in the USA, without importing them, especially with a racist tinge.

I don't think anyone thinks that Labour is NOT cognisant of the risks, FGT. They were none of them born yesterday.

Casdon Sun 04-May-25 15:03:27

I suspect that what Navarro actually knows about what is happening in the UK could be written on a single sheet of A4. It’s just a cheap ploy to defend the USA stance on China, which is having a cart and horses driven through it.

I can find absolutely no record of Richard Dearlove on TV this morning saying that "He said this morning on tv that Labour need to be cognisant of the risks".

Googling shows he has a right bee in his bonnet about China and risks, over the last few months, with zero evidence this government is "in the dark", specifically attacking the Labour Party.

Let's have the source, FGT, please, to check for ourselves?

Lammy? The new Chinese embassy location?

Yes, Wyllow Sir Richard Dearlove said the Labour Party need to be aware and make sensible decisions on our relationship with the Chinese. It was on the Camilla Tominey programme this morning. I’m sure you can source it. I’m going out now so apologies.

Gosh, GB "news", who'd have thought it? Must be true.

According to the Independent today, the hackers who attacked
M&S have cost the retailer millions of pounds a day.BUT “the incident is just the tip of the iceberg and could be providing a blueprint for countries such as Russia and North Korea to bring our increasingly interconnected society to a halt.”

Yes, but being with Sir Richard Dearlove, does not mean that we have any reason to give credence to what some member of the Trump adminstration says. We know they just spout out anything that comes into their head without thinking.

I think western countries as a whole have been slow to realise the danger of exporting all our manufacturing to one dominant country, especially when that includes high tech electronic equipment. This is the result of the rampant untrammeled capitalism introduced by Mrs Thatcher and President Reagon. Before that country's took a more measured view of balancing trade with national security and a balanced home economy.

The interview was real. I watched it.

He's been warning the UK about it for quite some time. Here he is in 2023

Personally I think he should now be issuing warnings about the US 🙂

Love it , Willow3! You’re probably right, too. Alliances are changing, Orwell’s 1984 all over again.
