Israel to "conquer" Gaza

"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the population of Gaza will be displaced to the south after his security cabinet approved an expanded military operation in the enclave that a minister described as a plan to “conquer” the territory.

The vote on Sunday came hours after the military said it would mobilize tens of thousands of reservists, strengthening its capacity to operate in the besieged Palestinian territory.

“One thing will be clear: there will be no in-and-out,” Netanyahu said in a Monday video message posted on X. “We’ll call up reserves to come, hold territory — we’re not going to enter and then exit the area, only to carry out raids afterward. That’s not the plan. The intention is the opposite.”

The plan would be implemented after US President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East next week to “provide a window of opportunity” for a hostage deal, the official added

"The plan then, is to displace Gaza’s entire population to the south of the enclave, following which the total the blockade of humanitarian aid may be lifted, the official said, adding that the military “will remain in every area it captures.”"

How can killing so many people in Gaza be right How can some Christians believe this is part of the end times and Jesus will appear when Israel has won

David49 Sat 17-May-25 07:32:48

The war is nothing to do with Netenyahu avoiding prosecution, his future is worth the same as any of the soldiers he is asking to fight and risk their lives. He only risks a trial and prison they risk death and injury

Chocolatelovinggran Sat 17-May-25 07:43:03

TakeThat - where have you read that Christians believe that? I am a Christian with many Christian friends and have never heard this view expressed.
The suffering of the innocents on both sides of this terrible conflict have been the subject of prayers in churches.
I have posted of my reaction to pictures of starving children in Gaza.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 17-May-25 08:00:42

Of course Trump could change his mind within a second, but I suspect that Netanyahu has had some very uncomfortable days during this past week or so.

SM evidence of children starving is now distressingly growing
To know a child is starving from natural causes is bad enough, but to understand that a child is starving to death because of man’s inhumanity to man is more than one can bear.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 17-May-25 08:25:35

What is making Netanyahu uncomfortable?

Well

Trump has negotiated with the Houthis and agreed that they will stop bombing USA shipping, but they are still free to bomb Israel.

Trump has decided to recognise a previous classified terrorist in Syria. Sharaa - whose links with Al-Qaida had outlawed him. To reinforce this, Trump lifted sanctions from Syria.

Saudi is increasing its military power to the tune of billions with the USA help. Israel will no longer hold the most powerful military position in the Middle East quite so comfortably.

Qatar has clearly negotiated some sort of deal - which included a massive “gift”.

Iran has now concluded a nuclear deal with the USA, and will soon be the second nuclear power in the area.

Trump negotiated with Hamas and brought home the only USA hostage left.

Israel is being told very clearly to stop the war, it has to learn the art of diplomacy with its loathed neighbours, but is must be a lesson learned sooner rather than later.

Netanyahu can only avoid trial and imprisonment if he remains as PM.

He remains as PM without any election because Israel is fighting a war.

He is in hock to two of the most barbaric individuals in his cabinet, and therefore is persuaded to commit war crimes on an unimaginable scale.

The war will continue through 2026 ?

WWM2 You are absolutely correct in your assessment. What saddens me is that he is turning Israel into a pariah state and that won't be easy to change even when Netanyahu is long gone. Not only is his plan to erase Hamas completely unachievable, it is clearly a cover for the extreme right's efforts to erase Palestinians from Gaza and to resettle it with Israelis. Neither plan will work but it will ensure that Israel will never flourish in peace. Even if Trump gets his way and builds a luxury resort in Gaza my worry would be that it would be the target for terrorist attacks and where would the Palestinians go? What a mess!

Anniebach Sat 17-May-25 09:20:47

But Whitewave believes his plan is to avoid prosecution

Smileless2012 Sat 17-May-25 09:21:42

Yes, I think it will Annie if there's anyone left alive to bomb or starve in Gaza.

Israel has been a pariah state for a long time but cannot submit to terrorist groups who want to destroy it, it has to fight, its settlement policy is wrong which makes it worse, if that was stopped would attacks stop?.

Not a chance.

Anniebach Sat 17-May-25 09:29:57

No, attacks would not stop, they will still be Jews

Whitewavemark2 Sat 17-May-25 09:38:00

It appears that the USA hostage was released on the understanding that Trump will put pressure on Israel to allow food and medical aid into Gaza.

Severe malnutrition is now beginning to spread amongst the population, particularly the children.

Smileless2012 Sat 17-May-25 09:40:13

Surely the only real way of pressurising Israel is stop giving military aid.

Anniebach Sat 17-May-25 09:42:20

Why the children ? I so remember speaking to people who had
depended on soup kitchens in South Wales and reading journals of a member of my family, parents fed their children first,

Whitewavemark2 Sat 17-May-25 09:47:59

And I’m 100% convinced that, that is what happens in Gaza.

But children’s nutritional needs are vital because they are growing, lack of nutrition stunts brain and body.

So no one is getting enough nutrition, but it particularly shows in the children.

Smileless2012 Sat 17-May-25 09:49:33

Parents can't feed their children if there's no food Annie. Soup kitchens in Gaza; if only there were.

Anniebach Sat 17-May-25 10:05:08

Why does malnutrition particularly show in children

Whitewavemark2 Sat 17-May-25 10:17:00

Anniebach

Why does malnutrition particularly show in children

Because it is vital for growing bodies. The parents will become thinner if course snd suffer from malnutrition-related disease, but children need all that on top of the need to grow. Correct nutrition is vital.

I can give you an example that you might understand.

Lack of vitamin D and calcium - we can all recognise a child who’s suffers from this deficiency - much harder to recognise it in adults.

Children will suffer from nutritional deficiency all their lives. In the U.K. for example there are areas where the children are below the average height because of proper nutrition.

Anniebach Sat 17-May-25 10:22:18

all the photographs we see are of children ,

Whitewavemark2 Sat 17-May-25 10:28:10

Anniebach

all the photographs we see are of children ,

Maybe it is because the adults are more worried about their children than themselves.

If I was a mother with children my instinct would always to plead for my children above myself.

But that isn’t actually true. You can find photos of suffering adults if you look.

Smileless2012 Sat 17-May-25 10:45:00

If children weren't being starved and maimed, there'd be no photographs to show would there Annie.

Anniebach Sat 17-May-25 10:51:09

Hamas has always released photographs of children

Allira Sat 17-May-25 10:52:51

Anniebach

Why does malnutrition particularly show in children

Because children use calories to grow as well as to function. Often children, if they are active, will carry little excess body weight too, so have no reserves to fall back on.

During and after WWW in the UK, when there was rationing , the Government issued cod liver oil, orange juice and extra milk rations to expectant mothers and children.
