I could not believe my ears when I heard this today. I think she has served more than enough time in prison and should definitely not serve another 8 months there.
Far more dangerous people are being released early on tags. Why can’t she?
People like the ghastly Huw Edwards get suspended sentences for far worse crimes.
I notice that £87,000 has been crowd funded for her family so far as this has made their future far from secure. I will donate because I feel she has been punished enough.

I am with you on this. We have a two tier justice system in the UK. Whatever happened to the core principle of criminal justice - 'let the punishment fit the crime'? This was a woman partly triggered by her previous trauma of losing a child.
There are many 'do-gooders' commenting on her who forget that at the end of the day humanity is an imperfect state of being and we have ALL said things previously at some point that we later lived to regret.
It will be very interesting to see what sort of sentence former Labour councillor Ricky Jones gets later in the summer for calling for 'throats cut' of Southport protestors.
Ms Connolly sent an absolutely appalling message, inviting racist actions against migrants hostels. Later that day a hostel was set on fire. It was a heightened time due to the Southport tragedy, where a migrant was being blamed, of course totally incorrectly. Her post was ill judged and she deserves to be in jail. Stephen Yaxley Lennon (who styles himself as Tommy Robinson to appeal to his underclass supporters) is a totally different case. I'd happily leave him in prison on a whole life tariff, as his words fuel racist attacks and murders.
"It will be very interesting to see what sort of sentence former Labour councillor Ricky Jones gets later in the summer for calling for 'throats cut' of Southport protestors"
Very heavy, we would all hope, of course.
Tommy Robinson is due for release. Lucy Connolly isn’t. I’m not sure what purpose is served in keeping her in prison. Community service and an education course might be better. The judges can only deal with the law however and she did plead guilty so perhaps that makes the difference. It’s a very sad situation and I do feel sorry for her daughter who is missing her mum.
Tommy Robinson is in prison for contempt of court therefore different sentencing guidelines.
I'm with this who are concerned about her child growing up in an atmosphere of hatred, and a disregard for the law - " play the mental health card" ..appalling.
She deserves her sentence, no sympathy for her whatsoever.
This was a woman partly triggered by her previous trauma of losing a child.
Tenacious could you explain how losing a child, or any other form of trauma, mitigates posting vile, malicious comments online that incite others to violence?
Personally I can’t see any connection, nor why such a loss should excuse behaviour like Lucy Conolly’s.
There seems an awful lot of hatred and lack of compassion on this thread.
She has lost a child; there can't be anything in life worse than that, and yet she could post encouragement to burn people to death - other people's children. This lady must be in quite a state. I hope she is getting some help with these terrible thoughts.
She pleaded guilty to a horrible crime ( inciting racial hatred) , for which the maximum sentence is 7 years. She got 30 odd months of which she will serve 40% instead of the usual 50%. She got off lightly!!
I can’t believe that people would condone the behaviour of anybody who incites violence and death. There are no mitigating circumstances that excuse her lack of humanity. (what could, even in the thoughts of an horrific war where they have lost everything, people show kindness and humanity to their fellow men) and her poor daughter, she will have to live with the consequences. I think people are blinded by the politics, rather than thinking through what she actually said.
I lost a child, I live with poor mental health. I love my family and have no wish to be separated from them.
I am also not a rabble rousing racist.
I’m guessing that a lot of people commenting here aren’t on X. Her tweet was relatively mild compared to many on that platform. You’d need a whole new prison if everyone who tweeted anything nasty was to go to jail. You should see some of the abuse JK Rowling gets for one example
Remember three little girls had been very brutally murdered and emotions were running high. Information was scarce and rumours took the place of concrete information
Some people think they can post anything they like without any consequences.
Well. Tough luck. You can’t always get away with it.
She should stay in prison and mull over what she said and why she said it.
I've seen much more offensive comments posted and this is proseceutorial/judicial overreach.
Beggars belief to me that anybody could have any sympathy for this woman. Her communication was vile and given the context of the volatile situation in the country, she could have incited a major tragedy.
Can you imagine how she or her husband would feel if someone suggested burning down her home with her children inside? I'm certain she'd have been howling for a long prison sentence for the perpetrator.
If this was an overweight tattooed shaven headed man waving union flags who chanted these provocative words, there would not be an ounce of sympathy for him on this site. Just because she is a middle class woman, out come the hankies.
She actually boasted about pleading 'mental health issues' if she was prosecuted! So clearly knew what she was about.
She knew what she was saying, knew it had crossed a huge line and knew what the likely consequences would be. In fact, a larger sentence was an option open to the judge.
The fact she is a parent and holds her hideous views is pretty scary - but she is entitled to hold them. She is not entitled to broadcast them without impunity.
She is where she deserves to be. Shame on those supporting her. Our country does not need attitudes like hers - she needs to accept responsibility for her crime and not blame anybody else for the predicament she put herself in.
Remember three little girls had been very brutally murdered and emotions were running high
Nobody has forgotten. It's no excuse for what she was suggesting be done to innocent people. She might take the example of the parents of these children and do good things to honour their children's memory, not suggest hideous things be done to others.

People getting speeding tickets often cite how many others were speeding too. The answer is 'so what', you are still guilty.

Indeed she did. So many on here have no understanding of the law as passed by our Parliament. Doesn't sound like her husband should be in politics either - he clearly has no idea either.

If all of of us who have lost children or been victims of violent assault used that 'get out of jail card' every time we were found to be involved in reprehensible behaviour, nobody would be punished for anything they did.
Sometimes sentencing seems very odd. One of the Blenheim gold toilet gang heist got a two year suspended sentence and we are awaiting sentencing for the Sycamore Gap tree fellers which is more likely to be two years inside.
