I could not believe my ears when I heard this today. I think she has served more than enough time in prison and should definitely not serve another 8 months there.

Far more dangerous people are being released early on tags. Why can’t she?

People like the ghastly Huw Edwards get suspended sentences for far worse crimes.

I notice that £87,000 has been crowd funded for her family so far as this has made their future far from secure. I will donate because I feel she has been punished enough.

This woman is no innocent by any stretch of the imagination and clearly has little respect for the law.

The court heard that the day before Connolly was arrested, she sent a WhatsApp message saying the “raging tweet about burning down hotels has bit me on the arse lol”. She also said she would “play the mental health card” if arrested, and would deny responsibility for the post if asked.

Naeem Valli, prosecuting, said Connolly.......also sent a message saying she intended to work her notice period as a childminder “on the sly” despite being deregistered.

She sent another tweet commenting on a sword attack that read: “I bet my house it was one of these boat invaders.”

Remember three little girls had been very brutally murdered and emotions were running high

Which is exactly why she should never have done it. There could easily have been more deaths, very easily.

As for " do gooder", I'm pretty proud to be one.

I think she deserves her prison sentence. In no way is it acceptable to incite others to burn people to death. Nasty piece of work.

Halos all round then 😇😇😇😇😇

Are you quite well my dear Oreo?

So many more worthwhile causes to donate to than supporting a racist woman inciting harm to other innocent people while 'LOL' about it (her words). The parents of the three murdered girls have raised money to honour the memory of their girls - a much more fitting cause to support.

As her husband is ill and she has no income, they are in danger of losing their home

Many people face this problem every year or are already homeless through no fault of their own.
This particular family needs to look at themselves for where they are in life.

In the pink my dear 😃

Am just quietly thinking that SM could be the worst thing that humanity has brought into being. Not only for people not realising that tweets can cause trouble but for sanctimonious people to show they have no empathy whatsoever.

silverlining48 Wed 21-May-25 17:46:39

She could have been given a much longer sentence. but by pleading guilty and taking other family situation into account , she got a reduction on the lower rate, so why does she just do her time.its not very long now.
Really surprised at how much has been raised, and given the seriousness of the charges, that some people think this is acceptable behaviour.

£93,000 now. A lot of people feel she has been punished enough. As her husband is ill and she has no income, they are in danger of losing their home.

I wonder when her husband became ill?
This was written Nov 26th 2024:
"The authority’s monitoring officer, Sarah Hall, has instructed an independent investigator from law firm Bevan Brittan to decide whether Cllr Ray Connolly, has breached the code of conduct for public comments he made in the aftermath of his wife’s arrest for stirring up racial hatred online."

I am not entering into this debate, but am concerned that someone who needs to look after his family and is apparently ill and in danger of losing his job, finds the time & energy to stand for the Town Council: www.northamptontowncouncil.gov.uk/briar-hill

sanctimonious people to show they have no empathy whatsoever

Like who exactly?

I suggest you read all the comments on here and make up your own mind.
It’s one thing to say you think the sentence was proportionate and another to delight in it.

knspol Wed 21-May-25 18:08:13

Like many others I thought this was just the govt/ judiciary making an example of someone. Having read some of the above posts (without knowing if they are factual) saying many previous posts of similar content had also been posted then perhaps I need to think again.

The woman was suggesting burning down the dwelling place of women and children. At a time of heightened emotions.

So I suggest you think about that.

No delight.

Notagranyet24 Wed 21-May-25 18:20:38

I think the key thing was that she was encouraging people to burn hostels and hotels where immigrants were. That is arson and arson is always severely dealt with because it is a serious crime and has been since the Middle Ages when burning down buildings threatened whole towns!
If you are the partner of a public figure such as a councillor, you need to have regard for the responsibilities involved in the post and not behave like an impulsive teenager.

silverlining48 Wed 21-May-25 18:46:08

I remember seeing on the tv news the terror of those in the hotel/ hostels being attacked by violent, angry, out of control thugs. Whipped up by the likes of this racist woman.

Yes indeed Wibblywobbly.
She deserves her very stiff punishment for her rancid, rebel- rousing posts. A nasty piece of work indeed. 😒

The facts:
www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/may/20/jailed-wife-of-ex-tory-councillor-loses-sentence-appeal-over-southport-tweet

As I said up thread, I think was deciding to take her sentence to court that has caused so much publicity for the family - her child and husband dragged through the matter in the public eye. Because she initially pleaded guilty, all what you read in the article would probably not have come into the public eye. She would have served her sentence and got out after 40% of the time.

I agree especially after all she's said that the sentence was proper/within guidelines and there aren't get out classes for not only threatening/inciting violence and death but doing it quite knowingly for the possible consequences for her family. and it was deserved.

Paying for the lawyers for this appeal - which she seems to have been egged on to do by the Free Speech Union -

meant they mortgaged their house and are broke and her child and husband have gone through the glare of publicity

I dont feel gleeful about it but feel that justice was done by the original sentence. Knowing other horrible things are said on X doesn't change what she did.

Quite a bit above about losing her child and the effects it had - people react very differently - anger and hate/wanting to blame can be part of that but that doesn't mean to say you aren't responsible for your own behaviour, and to turn it into racist hatred and then make it worse for your remaining child can be explained but not excused.

Bluecat Wed 21-May-25 19:07:15

I can't believe that there are people donating to a woman who incite others to burn people to death. What if they had managed to respond successfully and thus kill the innocent people in the hostels? Would her supporters donate to someone who had incited mass murder?

There are people starving, homeless, injured in war, suffering from terrible diseases or having no access to clean water.... And people here decide to give their money to a woman who incited hatred and murder. The world has gone mad.

Stephen Yaxley Lennon aka Tommy Robinson is to be released four months early from prison.

In my opinion he is more of a threat to society than Lucy Connolly.

Many think there is more of a threat to our society from others.

mabon1 Wed 21-May-25 19:22:44

She deserves to be there for every second of her sentence.

Ilovedogs22 Wed 21-May-25 19:47:09

The keyboardwarrior got her comeuppance, a nasty woman indeed. Not so cocky now is she?🤔

I imagine everybody without exception thinks that. That doesn’t mean either of these two should have more lenient sentences though.
