this continues an ongoing thread on Gaza

The O/P read (in part)

"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the population of Gaza will be displaced to the south after his security cabinet approved an expanded military operation in the enclave that a minister described as a plan to “conquer” the territory.

The vote on Sunday came hours after the military said it would mobilize tens of thousands of reservists, strengthening its capacity to operate in the besieged Palestinian territory.

“One thing will be clear: there will be no in-and-out,” Netanyahu said in a Monday video message posted on X. “We’ll call up reserves to come, hold territory — we’re not going to enter and then exit the area, only to carry out raids afterward. That’s not the plan. The intention is the opposite.”

We now have the aid crisis at the focus of world wide attention.

Hello Whitewave , it’s such a high emotion subject, there’s always a risk of misunderstanding. My sister thinks I disagree with her anti Israel govt line. I don’t but had tried to put the historical context of anti semitism, pogroms etc into our discussion. We usually are able to discuss all kind of things but Gaza is so awful. I watched the Louis Therough programme on Settlers. Terrifying, all he did was encourage people to talk - and they did 😟

👍

Never fear - I really understood that you had misunderstood 😄 because I know your opinion, which is similar to mine.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 02-Jul-25 19:02:02

Can you point to a post of mine that indicates that Israel should not exist?

What the extreme settlers are doing is illegal.

Do you agree that the Arabs who are being violently removed from their homes and livelihoods, are entitled to live on their land in peace?

Whitewavemark2 Do you think the State of Israel shouldn’t exist?
The settlers shouldn’t be taking West Bank land and tho this has gone on for a long time, different governments in Israel have had conflicting views about it. Settlers were evicted and their homes pulled down at one time. That could happen again in the future, but hearts have hardened no doubt against Palestinians due to what hamas did.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 02-Jul-25 18:52:59

No I actually meant the current theft by the extreme settlers. I understood that the land on which the Oct. Atrocity took place was only recently taken from the Arabs.

Perhaps I misunderstood?

One cannot imagine the horror and fear Israelis experienced
when Hamas invaded , their safe home after centuries

😄 you mean the land they thieved from the Arabs! And maybe a decade or two, certainly not centuries.

I find that comment distressing Whitewave. The Settlers are stealing Palestinian land and the current Israeli government encouraging that
Balfour then 1947 isn’t in that league imo

Of course we think it was an Atrocity and have said so on many posts GN.
What happened to those people, and is still happening to the survivors, was an Atrocity,
and, here's the 'but' that you may be expecting AnnieB, it does not justify the genocide that is happening today in Gaza.

Why does it appear that some people can’t hold two views in their head at the same time?

Everyone on here, as far as I know, has condemned the massacre of Israeli citizens by Hammas. It was horrendous.

It is possible to hold that view whilst, at the same time condemning the killing and starvation of Palestinian citizens by Israel.

It’s surely not a matter of one or the other - is it?

I can’t bear it.

I shall never forget, or forgive what has happened in Gaza. Just as I can never forget or forgive other regimes that committed atrocities.

Israelis must forgive 7th October 2023 , or do you not think it was an atrocity?

Oreo Wed 02-Jul-25 14:39:45

How do you feel about what the UK has done in various wars?
Any war or conflict is always awful for the civilian population and usually brought down on them by either their own government ( Gaza in this case) or by having to defend their own country or helping an ally. And in the civilian population it’s always women and children that have it the hardest.

Thank you for the link Lizzie; a horrific and heartbreaking read.

Yes Maremia an excellent, eye-opening piece:

What a horrific situation - yet still defended by some!

Maremia Wed 02-Jul-25 08:53:44

A good piece in the the Guardian yesterday, listing all that has happened in Gaza while the world's attention was on Trump bombing Iran.

A message from a friend who is not on GN

'I have just phoned BBC Complaints re their atrocious statement on Radio 4 News right now. They quoted Israeli Gov and US so called relief organisation, stating the killing of starving people queuing for food is fake news- How dare they. If anyone has time to call BBC Complaints and leave a message- Please do so- Many thanks - No: 03700100222'

The IDF wear masks too. No need for masks when <you attack with drones however! Are you surprised that in Palestine, in a siege, beign starved and bombed, people try and carry arms to protect themselves when trying to get food and medical aid, after all that happened? Really?

At last, an honest Israel politician:

www.facebook.com/share/r/1CUSnmA8HB/

sickening and chilling in the extreme.

Perhaps The Guardian gathered the info from this in the BBC news report

-At least 18 Palestinians have been killed after an Israeli drone strike targeted a Hamas police unit attempting to assert control over a market in the city of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, a doctor and eyewitnesses told the BBC.
Yes I read that.
When confronted by these ‘police hamas’ stallholders pulled out hand guns, one witness said and even a kalishnakov and then the drone struck. Seems that casualties were inevitable
given that scenario .

The Hamas police wore masks
