this continues an ongoing thread on Gaza

www.gransnet.com/forums/news_and_politics/a1347791-Israel-to-conquer-Gaza?msgid=31157292#31157292

The O/P read (in part)

"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the population of Gaza will be displaced to the south after his security cabinet approved an expanded military operation in the enclave that a minister described as a plan to “conquer” the territory.

The vote on Sunday came hours after the military said it would mobilize tens of thousands of reservists, strengthening its capacity to operate in the besieged Palestinian territory.

“One thing will be clear: there will be no in-and-out,” Netanyahu said in a Monday video message posted on X. “We’ll call up reserves to come, hold territory — we’re not going to enter and then exit the area, only to carry out raids afterward. That’s not the plan. The intention is the opposite.”

We now have the aid crisis at the focus of world wide attention.

I don't join in these threads much now because the sniping on here is so unpleasant.

As I said, should we be surprised at all the fighting in the world?

Allira Thu 03-Jul-25 11:29:23

The one that was bombed was in tents.

Best not to jump to conclusions

Jillykins3 Thu 03-Jul-25 11:27:41

Yes that's correct Anniebach. There was a cafe open that could only sell tea because there was nothing else to offer.A place to meet. A very little bit of normality amongst the horror....but gone now along with many lives. Shouldn't you be more outraged about that than the fact that they were drinking tea.

LizzieDrip Thu 03-Jul-25 11:26:57

Opening tea rooms whilst people sleep in tents

To give them a bit of respite from the unbearable heat of the tents.

Why do you begrudge people that, for goodness sake?

Makes much more sense to bomb it to oblivion with everyone inside it doesn’t it?

In reply to the posters asking why was a cafe open when there is little food to be had in Gaza.l can't post links but www.france24.com give a more detailed report. Apparently it had reopened a few weeks ago after repairing parts that had suffered damage. The kitchens are closed through lack of food supplies and they can only serve tea. Many journalists gather there.

Exactly!

Jumping to conclusions about food etc simply shows bias and very little thought.

I'm not biased.
Nor do I jump to conclusions.

But I do like to be aware of both sides and the report of the café with an admittedly limited menu was by a Palestinian who ate there with his family.

Given much thought , tea rooms open for journalists to meet and drink tea.

All notifications of deaths have been given by Hamas Health
Authorities, the tea drinkers are Hamas

Sadly, a cafe in Western Gaza City was bombed this week and many people were killed, including journalists.

It has been classed as a war crime.

Children were also killed.

Palestinian journalists. Anniebach.

Journalists are banned from Gaza and much has been said of
dehydration in Gaza

Drinking tea yet shortage of drinking water

Allira Thu 03-Jul-25 10:57:20

Making the best of what is available, apparently.
There are others.

How does Hamas keep going without food?

I'm not pro either side but sometimes one has to question why a child is starving in hospital when there are reports of some food being available. Who should have priority?

The ITV news report last night was heartbreaking. Starving children in hospital but no food for them. Injured children hurt when the tent they were living in was hit. I wanted to turn it off but it felt cowardly to turn away.

Yes, yet restaurants are open.
How could anyone sit in a restaurant eating food (where has it come from?) knowing that children are dying of starvation in a hospital nearby?

That poor little girl, it was heartbreaking. 😥

Can you let us know what they were eating please? Or do you think that they were socialising , discussing the situation and drinking sweet tea?

This thread is almost at an end and I'm glad that most posters are saddened and horrified by what is happening in Gaza.
You need to be hard hearted indeed to be unaffected by the suffering.

You have watched it then Oreo? With which sections do you disagree?

silverlining48 Thu 03-Jul-25 09:52:05

Oreo I have actively followed this sad story for nearly 40 years so am fairly au fait with the history.

I watched the Doctors in Gaza documentary last night on C4.

I would like to applaud C4 for showing it.

One day we will look back on the events in Gaza and Israel as a shameful moment in human history.

I think that the appalling thing is that the majority of people are outraged by what is happening, but we seem paralysed into doing anything.

The BBC dumped this programme for good reasons.
